Sean Linden: " you own the stuff you create, so if you make something in SL you can take it with you to another grid. I have no idea how the rights work for anything else, even fullperm objects created by someone else, or any texture not created by you (including the "default" textures like plywood), but anything made by you belongs to you. So you can take the plywood cube if you made it, I'm just not sure you can take the plywood :)" - Opensource Obscure via Bookmarklet

Buddhist Hell Theme Park in Second Life | Torley Lives
August 22 at 3:30 am - via Bookmarklet - Link
"Buddhism isn’t just about meditation and denying self-gratification to attain a higher state of being. When I was bute a chylde, I visited a Buddhist Hell Theme Park in Thailand. Fun for the whole family: sculptures depicting tongues being torn out, lots of spikes and bodies on said spikes, and certainly heaping amounts of simulated fire and brimstone that would make other religions’ demons feel inadequate" - Torley seem to be into Budhist hell theme fun ;) - silpol via Bookmarklet
I strongly suggest to visit that place - it's awesome, with lots of characters and things moving all around. - Opensource Obscure
I wish I could - I didn't go in-world already for months -- wrong mix of broken PC at home and lack of time... - silpol

Should you notice disappearing of entries from the Second Life Grid Status Reports feed, that's because I'm deleting them some time after the issues have been resolved, in order to make room for more interesting items. Let me know if you're OK with this. - Opensource Obscure

YAAY - another step forward. I just created my account on http://syntronik.de and logged in COM.lounge sim. Right now teleport doesn't work, but it's going to be fixed. Then one can teleport to my Opensim region both ways: by logging in the syntronik.de Agent Domain, or by logging in the Linden Lab Agent Domain. - Opensource Obscure
what is an agent domain? does that mean a different grid authenticates your avatar even if you haven't created an account in every grid you're trying to tp to? - Gaby Benkwitz
actually, the concept of 'grid' could disappear: http://justincc.wordpress.com/... + http://www.adamfrisby.com/blog... - that said, here's how I'm understanding it (I hope Christian Scholz aka Tao Takashi joins us, he deeply knows this stuff): - Opensource Obscure
An agent domain hosts your avatar, verifies your identity and you get authenticated with it. It "talks with" other grids and other grids' regions, and manage trust relationships with them; according to these trust relationships, you get enabled to teleport to other regions and maybe to operate inside them. See http://wiki.secondlife.com/wik... + http://syntronik.de/about + http://syntronik.de/forum/synt... - Opensource Obscure
As OO said: An Agent Domain is storing all your agent's data, like your profile, group information, friends list and so on. Everybody is free to choose an Agent Domain of their liking (even create their own). SL might be one AD out of many. A Region Domain on the other hand is the keeper of 3D environments (regions) as known from SL. Theoretically you can connect from any AD to any RD but trust issues might limit this somewhat. - Christian Scholz
and yes, there is no technical grid then anymore. It's more a loose coupling of servers. I need to post more on this, look out for posts on http://mrtopf.de/blog :-) - Christian Scholz

"By Eric Reuters SECOND LIFE, August 12 (Reuters) - Doug Thompson loved Second Life from the start, but there was one aspect he hated — its notoriously clunky user interface. “The Second Life interface sucks,” he wrote on his blog, recalling his first days. “Which will lead to the next sacred cow, which is that the newbie orientation experience sucks.” ..." - silpol via Bookmarklet

Will Mark Kingdon’s Reign Boost Second Life? - GigaOM
August 18 at 12:34 am - via Bookmarklet - Link
"Back in April, ex-Organic CEO Mark Kingdon took the helm of Linden Lab, replacing its charismatic founder, Philip Rosedale, at a time when the company was already struggling in an increasingly competitive market. While Linden claims to be profitable, its market share has plateaued, with scalability and usability woes keeping the number of monthly active users around 550,000 since last summer." - silpol via Bookmarklet

Our region (Vulcano) crashed 4 times in the last 16 hours. I don't see any news on http://status.secondlifegrid.n... so this could just be a single episode. Anything bad happening to your favorite sims? - Opensource Obscure
According Linden LiveSupport, the sim crashed only once in the last week. If they are right, my 4 Crash Counters are broken. Do you have a reliable way to misure your sims uptime? - Opensource Obscure
