i see it as a more immediate way of posting something, tumblr for shorter posts, a blog for something more extensive. Like tumblr guys say, a blog is a journal, tumblr is a scrapbook.

Nah, they just make some things easier than others. Like screwdrivers with different handles (not even heads)
- Roberto Baca
I used to think the same way, but since I discovered Posterous I have changed my mind: I use it to post to my main blog and to my Tumblr, and lately I'm starting to consider to make it my only blog. It's so easy to use!

I was at a conference last weekend (#scio09) where I saw for the first time people making perfect use of a FF room. It had the feel of Twitter from back in late 2006. I'm thinking we may be right at the start of a massive ramp-up in new FF users. It really is that much better.
The sites have value, but they could better not monetize it. Just like Google would look better without adwords. The problem is financing operations. I'm in favor to let an ISP consortium or Apple buy all these guys out, for a fair return.
- Meryn Stol
Keep in mind that comcast has recently bought plaxo. It's a comparable move.
- Meryn Stol
Web 2.0 was, at least partially, about monetization IMHO. One of the fundamental concepts was that it was cheap to start and run companies, so we could try out all these cool ideas (none of which were really new).

Saying it's just about conversations is meaningless... Conversations and UGC were happening from the beginning of the web and long before the "Web 2.0" term was coined.

This article is a worthy read about someone who behind the humongous walls that Scientologists tend to put up.

Everything else aside, that's a really pretty building.
- Rochelle
Rochelle, you should see it in person. Impressive. And then you get sad, because you see all the worker bees trying to convert you.
- Derrick
The SF headquarters is also pretty. The original "Bank of America" (Bank of Italy) I think.
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
Derrick, when I was working and taking the bus to/from downtown every day, the bus route went past the Seattle Scientology center. I always tried to look in the windows to see what they were doing in there, but the blinds were rarely opened. The parking lot was always full but I never saw anyone going in or coming out.
- Rochelle
Yeah, kind of the same here, Rochelle. And the funny thing is that in Los Angeles, there's the obvious glitzy celebrity connection, but the actual Scientologists that you see look like they got lost in 1977 Milwaukee. Strange.
- Derrick
When I was in LA last, we drove by the Scientology center on (or near?) W. Sunset Blvd. It looked like a jail compound or something, all set back with fences.
- Rochelle
Rochelle, there's a couple. They have one *just* for celebrities. People are always protesting in front of them now.
- Derrick
That's money well spent in helping fellow man right there it is.
- Michael W. May
I think that's the BIG one...there's another one on Hollywood Blvd., but the one you pointed out is super secretive and always packed, but you never see anyone going in or out, just tons of the worker bees, and the protesters. And hospital workers, since there's one right there, too.
- Derrick
Just stick fingers down their throats and have them throw up the aliens living inside of them. /end cleansing.
- Mona Nomura
I lived down the street from the Celebrity Center for years. Have a bunch of stories. Can't wait to read this. Either you're a business or religion, and true religion is free. Scientology has had it both ways for way too long.
- Steve Isaacs
God Scientology is a weird beast. Some of their really basic teachings make sense and could actually improve your life. The drama and crazy talk though - that's where it gets culty fast.

"OAuth is a mechanism by which users can authorize websites to grant third party applications access to user's information without sharing their credentials. This is increasingly important for things like iPhone applications, widgets, and other applications that connect to online services. OAuth itself isn't new, but moving towards IETF standardisation is a significant step."

EUROPE: HOW IT WENT DOWN FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE: At first, a trip to Rome with your parents sounded pretty lame. But you have absolutely nothing else going on in your life, so you tag along with them anyway. After dinner with Mom and Dad, you tell them you're going to go "for a walk" and head off to the bar district. Knowing very little Italian, you sit alone in a couple bars and end up talking to absolutely no one. Since you're determined to make a night of it, and because you promised all your friends back home that you were going to get laid in Europe, you ask the bartender where the nearest "prostituta casa" is and head in that direction. When the deed is complete you're more relieved than satisfied and wonder if you'll have to pay for sex for the rest of your life.

HOW IT WENT DOWN FROM HER PERSPECTIVE: This is my third one tonight. Jesus, business is booming. Is there some sort of conference in town? It's not World Cup or anything is it? I can never keep track of those goddamn sports tournaments. Why are they so popular anyway? Weird. Shit, I really need to do some laundry. Oh, and I have to pick up that dry cleaning. Why do I always keep forgetting that? I should write that down. You're done? That'll be 150 Euros.

"This is where narco folklore started, with songs and icons that pay homage to gangsters, and where children want to grow up to be traffickers. How Sinaloa confronts its own divided soul offers insight on where the drug war may be going for Mexico, where more than 5,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence this year. "The monster has lost all proportion," said Del Rincon, who is a member of the conservative National Action Party."

"We've got to give those fighters more time! Concentrate all fire on that Super Star Destroyer!"... Ahem... I think you will find that to be a Executor-class Star Dreadnought, colloquially known as the Executor-class Super Star Destroyer </comic book guy>
