Our data center (SVColo) performed an upgrade to their core network switch this evening. Something went wrong, and the operation took 30 minutes instead of 5. We apologize for the problem.
Jason: we would love to host FriendFeed but any hoster will screw up from time to time so I would rather win their business on the strength of our technology and service. Our CEO puts his personal cell phone out there (I don't know of any other hosting company CEO that does that, plus mine is +1-425-205-1921). not to mention I have some major motivation to make sure FriendFeed stays up. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Compete with Wave and let people run their own Friendfeed servers.
- Vezquex
Thanks! I almost sent SOS via Twitter...but u guys were fast! :D
- Roshan Ramachandran
Oh, and it was nice of you guys to arrange your downtime for when I was flying and off the net! :-)
- Robert Scoble
The upside is I saw the 'new and improved' twitter web interface for the first time. When do I have time to do that normally :D
- Micah
@scoble, that's just it. I've only known Rackspace to screw up once and it was due to some guy driving a car into the data center. Plus, all the other perks you mentioned.
- Jason Cronkhite
http://jezlyn.posterous.com I really like using it to feed content to my Wordpress blog and other sites at the same time. It's the only easy way I know of to e-mail posts "to" my Wordpress.com blog.
- Cheryl Jones
from BuddyFeed
Kol - it's great how one FF post can start a little movement. I've used it more today than since I signed up whenever a long time ago. Thanks.
- phil baumann
@phil couldn't you do the embed feature... ? post something to posterous.. and then 'edit' the post and paste the embed? Or maybe simply email it?
- Sean
Phil, click on the 'Share' link of the FF entry, then copy the embed code. Create a new Posterous entry, select HTML mode and paste in the embed code. You'll need to edit the width and height (looks like 500 for width). Then post. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Don't forget to tag your posts like this ((tag: posterous, friendfeed)) in the subject line of your emails. That way your posts will be seen easier by all other Posterous users when they use the global posterous search.
- Svartling
Kol, yes I see.. I added it, I guess Twitter does not have anything but javascript and flash widgets.. It doesnt matter, since I autopost to twitter there is a button there..
- David Gross
from email
How do you all add the little twitter and friendfeed images with links to your profiles here on posterous. I don't know the code to do that. :( Help when u can.
- Amani
http://mylescrew.posterous.com/ Right now I'm just testing, the import from Blogger was REALLY easy. I'm trying to "port" BlurbBits (http://ff.im/4tlY2) to make them work better on posterous. The iframe style parameter gets removed, which is different than Blogger (there is *always* something).
- Chris Myles
Amani, the little images for twitter etc you get if you autopost to those sites but you might end up with duplicate posts that way. There is a friendfeed badge you can put in your posterous profile at http://friendfeed.com/embed... use the image format, not javascript.
- David Gross
from email
Check out Wayne Suttons Posterous (he posted his URL in this thread). You see that he has changed some colors. That is a private beta feature that is coming soon to the public.
- Svartling
http://lizasperling.posterous.com/ Thanks - you are making this a very helpful Sunday:) AND for those of you trying to embed other images, etc...I did it in my profie and mash in friendfeed, zemanta, gmail, wisestamp,etc..FUN - happy to help.
- Liza + = ?
YOU are a great example of engaging followers and using tools to help us connect in many other ways. THANK YOU.
- Liza + = ?
@koltregaskes, my posterous is at http://alexschleber.posterous.com "Quick Hits Business Mindhacks". Had been using it quite a bit the first 6 months of this year. I'm a big fan of Garry & Sachin, but really wish posterous would hurry up with some of the much needed feature upgrades (skins and/or CSS, Retweet button - just use Tweetmeme, custom sidebar HTML, WYSIWIG bookmarklet, etc.) Seems like they're stalling a bit right now, no?
- Alex Schleber
They have to be careful not to mess with the simplicity of it, though; that's why so many people like it. If they tart it all up, it might as well just be Tumblr. Which already exists.
- NNR
from email
@koltregaskes weird that you're "what's your GReader/Posterous/FB?" entries from the last few days seem to presage in a way what happened today..
- Alex Schleber
Keep 'em coming, I'll add you all later today. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Thank God for this thread. I'm going to (slowly) subscribe to all the people I'm subbed to on FF. I have a hunch posterous is going to replace part of the puzzle for me. Thanks Kol.
- Ahsan Ali
I tried a post asking everyone to share their Google Reader shared items link, but I guess I don't have many followers. Maybe you can?
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
My url is http://dave6.posterous.com I just tried out the "((nogallery))" feature that lets you post pictures not in gallery format by putting ((nogallery)) in email subject http://dave6.posterous.com/where-d... only problem is that it takes a while to load pictures if not using really high-speed internet.
- David Gross
from email
surely someone has figured out how to add Friend connect to posteorus...keep searching, and love the cool mashups, but no Friendconnect....
- Liza + = ?
Wish the RSS import into FriendFeed worked a little better. Would make Posterous more useful to me.
- Kol Tregaskes
What's wrong with the RSS feed? that's the whole reason I use Posterous, is because the RSS feed import to FF works so well.
- I like big Botts
I've tried a couple today and the images don't come in and the imported text is messy. Works just fine in Google Buzz so if I could work out while my import is messy in FF then it would be a viable option for posting a few articles to both FF and Buzz in one click.
- Kol Tregaskes
what do you have in posterous that you don't have on tumblr? anyway, friendfeed has problems all the time, unfortunately we're losing it :(
- Flavio
hmm.. Kol, ever try doing it the other way? Have posterous push to friendfeed.
- David Gross
from email
hmm.. I have problems with posterous too.. I forward stuff from email and it messes up the formatting. It just took a 5 picture funny and juggled the pics, how will people get a laugh out of a messed up joke?;( I went to blogger, tumblr and posterous to edit.. I have to do often.

if only you could bold an announcement in FF like you can in Wave :D [oh, and my username on Wave is the splendiforously original "adamlasnik"]

I'm sniffling because I don't have a google wave nick. Despite two invites, there is still nothing in my inbox. I am not in with the in crowd. :(

at $599, a Mac Mini seems like a viable replacement for old PCs around the house. Life's too short to waste three hours on a Sunday morning trying to scrub viruses off of your computer. I do with the internal speaker on the Mac Mini went just a little louder though.
- Thomas Hawk
I've had Windows machines for years and never had viruses or malware. Just have to be careful about what you download and run and don't use IE.
- Morton Fox
LOL. I haven't had any viruses or malware in years as well. Remember the Dell Zino is also a pretty good replacement for old PC's. Its on my buy list to replace my set top box.
- Roberto Bonini
Cristo: Yep. What's on the Internet anyway other than a bunch of memes, LOLcats, and food pictures? :)
- Morton Fox
@Cristo, my wife uses it for her email and recipes while cooking and for listening to music on Pandora or watching Netflix Watch Now. The kids use it for Club Penguin. It's mostly internet use/and email. My son took a class down at the Apple store to do some video editing, so maybe some very light video editing at some point on it.
- Thomas Hawk
@Megan, yeah you do have to be careful. I'm not sure my wife and kids are as careful as they should be. I've got a Media Center Dell in the attic which has never been infected. They don't really use that one though. They do use the kitchen one though. At least with the Mac Mini Apple requires a password in order to install any applications and so they'd need to get my permission before installing anything on it.
- Thomas Hawk
AHahahah have you been not paying attention about how worthless an ipad is? read bonin's blog. And no besides he still needs it for photo/video editing

Just was talking to http://www.friendfeed.com/garin and we came to the conclusion that if you are going to comment on a friendfeed item you should either be first or last. Why? They always are visible. So, here's your chance! :-)
Any worthy FF thread will engage interested parties enough to read most of the comments.
- iTad
Do I get bonus points if I end up being the thread killer?
- Kevin Johnson
Kevin you could always delete your 1st comment. :)
- rob friedman
Kevin! Yes, and we're having a great time watching this. It will get old fast, but for now it's really fun!
- Robert Scoble
Dang it I am 5 min too late. So I guess it is like posting on a blog post, you always want to be first.
- Jeff
Hey Enrique.. that would suck. Oh... LAST! Oh Jeff... Last.
- Ted Bradford II
That's why these threads just go on and on and on... people just want to have the last word. ;-P
- Chris Heath
Chris: I don't want the last word. I want the penultimate word. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Nope, I like the riffng of the conversation. Jump in anywhere. Enjoy the free flow of ideas and worry not about being seen by the scanners. Those who take the time to expand the thread have such a richer experience.
- michael sean wright
if i wasn't so tired i'd play that out Chris (as my last post was truly in jest). Late here in East TN. Gonna go tip a few cows and call it a day.
- Ted Bradford II
Ted: so was mine ... didn't you catch the winky tongue? (i'm on cape fear so i'm soon to bed as well)
- Chris Heath
Good point, unless you're actually using the RT chat aspect of FriendFeed, I guess...
- Andy Werner
I actually come back 5 days later to make comments so I can have the last word. Everyone has already forgotten what the conversation is about by then.
- Jeff
Chris- I did, but needed a segue into a cow tipping joke... cause I've never done so before. I do know this, tomorrow I will use the word 'penultimate' and dazzle family and friends. Hope alls quiet on the Cape bro. These storms have been a biotch. Annnnnnd Jeff just trumped us all. Tell him what he's won Enrique... nite all.
- Ted Bradford II
Second to last is always visible on my screen. :)
- Bwana ☠
Clever way to get the most commented upon comment on FF ever....
- Barak B
Ted, if you haven't dozed off- i'll have you know that the coastal winds tend to keep a lot of the storm systems at bay- if you're close enough to the water - a mile or 5 inland can make a big difference some days - and spot t/storms can be localized around here big time - for instance yesterday it rained (for a short period) at my house while i was at work 5 miles away getting no rain - only knew cuz the ground was wet when i went home for lunch... ok - it's really time for sleep now - g'nite FriendFeed
- Chris Heath
friendfeed should allow for "liking" comments so top comments can be the ones shown, no matter the chronology. And allow the users to watch comments by likes, threaded or chronologically.
- Charbax
A blatant attempt at gaming the FriendFeed statistics for no real useful purpose... Oooh, can I be last, Please Please!!!
- Peter Kelley
No, Peter, you may not be last. That's my position.
- Chris Charabaruk
Are trying to go for the longest comment thread again?
- Amit Morson
Amit: no, most times one post gets hidden.
- Robert Scoble
In a different timezone you can have the advantage :)
- Rene de Vries
Okay, people, nothing to see here. Just walk on. This is the last comment. It's all clear now.
- Ruud van Wijngaarden
What if you write backwards? Does that help?
- Kieran Daly
Okay, people, nothing to see here. Just walk on. This is the last comment. It's all clear now. says Ruud van Wijngaarden
- Julian Edward
It would be nice if we could pick the number of comments shown at the top and bottom, I'd like to see the first 3 and last 3 for example.
- Kol Tregaskes
I usually read all the comments of something I'm interested in. I don't just read the top and bottom ones so I don't care where I come in. I comment on what I want to because I want to say something. It's nice if the original poster reads/responds to it, but not absolutely necessary. Most of the time the most fun/interaction comes from other commenters.
- Molly
Being last has one drawback. It makes you a thread-killer. I'm not sure some of us like being that. Sometimes I'd rather see the discussion keep going.
- George Hall (Australia)
Do like the suggestion made earlier that there should be bonus points for being the thread-killer...
- George Hall (Australia)
And there is nothing I hate more than reading that first comment that childishly claims "First!" and nothing more. "Last!" (until the next comment comes along)
- Jim Espinoza
By the way, I'm the last commenter in a very participated thread recently started by Robert Scoble, but that didn't gain me almost any new follower. I'm fine with this though, as I'd find silly being advantaged for being the last commenter ;-)
- Opensource Obscure
112 comments - but there can never be last comment, can there? Unless there is a FF limit on the number of comments - Paul, is there a limit?
- WoH: Minding her Steves
The current last comment is the next penultimate comment.
- Brian Sullivan
Not everyone is on here to market themselves to infinity. Why people, other than people who actually make money off of exposure, insist on wanting the most friends on ff/fb/ms/tt is beyond me. Not everyone is a Scobilite! Yes I did just make that word up... where do I copyright it? lol
- Jason Williams
Didn't someone blog about tinyurl's dominance a while back - about how they have too much power. Might have been Gillmor or Winer
- Bwana ☠
Winer. I don't think they have too much power
- Steve Gillmor
Kevin: i did not say it was spam. I put the smiley face indicating my partial joking nature. but only partial.
- Jeff
Robert: I could not figure out how to disable comments for particular post. It is really not a big issue since I have gmail, but I do think this post may never die.
- Jeff
I seem to be last on many of Steve Gillmor's posts @techcrunchit, the kiss of death to many a conversation. I should be so lucky here.
- Aron Michalski
from fftogo
A good way to stop? - Scoble puts in his penultimate comment Kevin Johnson says zaloom!
- Julian Edward
This is the Seinfeld of FF....the post and comments about nothing. I wonder what the record is for the most comments on FF?
- Jeff
As a fine-art platform, as a painting, do you think anyone would be interested in a full-screen image feed animated by Judith Supine? http://www.flickr.com/photos...
- stephen harlow
I like most anything distilled...information, bait...(distilled bait...is that like the worm at the bottom of the mezcal?)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
The difference would be that in this case the worm will stay on the bottom. No matter what.
- Ruud van Wijngaarden
I reckon it'll be Ruud van Wijngaarden
- Julian Edward
I am not quite sure about that. But willing to accept it. (Wait! You just called me a worm? The most underrated but valuable animal on the planet, that brings us fertile ground and eats dead stuff? It is a nice compliment, but might be a bit much).
- Ruud van Wijngaarden
No, No! - I didn't mean you worm. Although as you say they are useful beings. I do hope you'lll be in heroic position of last commenter! This is a case of the last shall be second. (Kevin Johnson being first of course). Scoble is penultimate we would hope. I'm aiming for 5th to last!
- Julian Edward
Yesterday somebody asked: 'if you pass the number two in a race, which place are you in?' and I answered wrong. Passing the last one in this race will be hard...
- Ruud van Wijngaarden
you mean Twitter Gar1n? You were talking on TWITTER WEREN'T YOU! LIAR "friendfeeed Garin" pfttttt still the same bi-polar
- The Real sofarsoShawn
Interesting comment, SFSS, very interesting indeed. So interesting, in fact, that I think that nothing further needs to be added to this thread. Ever.
- WoH: Minding her Steves
אתם כל כך מלא חרא, אבל זו בעיה שלך, לא שלי :-)
- David Gross
from email
actually i don't know how not to be the last commenter :)
- İ. Emre Kutlu
If only I could puncture the depths of Scoble's scratch-the-surface brain fart, techno-vangelizing, then I'd actually care WHOLE HEARTEDLY about this meaningfully retarded thread.
- The Real sofarsoShawn
The only way this thread can be made even more ridiculous and anachronistic is to move it to identi.ca.. Myspace would work, too.
- Tal Shafik
And since you can't guarantee being last unless you are the originator of the thread or can convince the originator to end comments (but since Robert is AWOL that is unlikely) -- you better be first. ;-)
- Brian Sullivan
But I've found it to be a little buggy recently (in Chrome). On a few sites (BBC, FF and others) when I hit the bookmarklet the screen scrolls to the bottom and I cannot scroll back up. I have to use the original FF bookmarklet instead. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
The pictures are a little out of order
- Mike Chelen
Mostly stick with the regular one, and use the movable bookmarklet when something is blocked
- Mike Chelen
Cool. I was always hoping for a new Bookmarklet. And even if it's buggy, it's a step in the right direction. Nice Job
- Michael Fidler
Michael: It seems like the only way to uncover parts of the screen. Thanks go to April's friend for writing the code http://friendfeed.com/friendf... hope these pics help to see how it works
- Mike Chelen
Have you ever tried the Posterous Bookmarklet? I think it's one of the best around. It pulls everything off a page and allows you to choose what you want. It's similar to the FFeed one in a way, but I would like something like it, but combine it with the ability to pull in more than three pictures in at a time. Don't get me wrong, I love the FFeed one too, but there's something elegant about the way the Posterous one works.
- Michael Fidler
Michael: How well does Posterous stuff import to Friendfeed? If it were possible to import more than 3 pictures, that would be nice.
- Mike Chelen
Mike. Posterous imports well using the Custom RSS/atom feed , but I recall seeing a message from Gary, one of their founders, mentioning that he would like to have better integration with friendfeed. Before I enter the feed, I first run it through fflow, which gives me a MediaRSS feed which tends to display larger pictures. I use it on all my feeds. Love it. Here's the URL: http://www.fflow.net/...
- Michael Fidler
Michael: cool, fflow looks similar to feed buster http://feed-buster.appspot.com/ which i use heavily for multimedia import to friendfeed. will have to try them side by side and see if there are any differences. thanks for the tip!
- Mike Chelen
Whoa, fflow is new to me. Anyone know how long it's been around and who the developer is?
- Ivan Zuzak
I was wondering why nothing was moving. :-) Anyone else have this or just me?
- Kol Tregaskes
It's either broken or deliberately shut off to avoid iPad strain.
- Brian Sullivan
same for me, looks like they have a problem.. got 120 in queue after 10minutes of silence
- Yunus Tunak
I think whatever horrible nonsense they had going on earlier this morning might've prompted them to halt the real-time. It was very, very hinky there for a while.
- Jennifer Dittrich
I'm seeing it too. I'm guessing they disabled real time to keep the site up during the Apple announcement.
- Jeff P. Henderson
cant even like this post.. .. "Oops, there was a problem! Learn more..." :-/
- Roshan Ramachandran
She's a little freaked out but I'll talk her around.
- Johnny
from iPhone
I think when someone who uses FriendFeed a lot, follows a lot of people, etc. shows someone around, that person will naturally get freaked out because it's information overload. But if they join and just follow one or two people at first, it's fun.
- Bruce Lewis
Hey Roshan, that depends on the advertiser... they can geo-target their campaigns to be either domestic or world-wide. We will soon have I18N which allows advertisers to set any country of their choice.

"Dan Brown's follow-up to The Da Vinci Code has sold more copies in its first 36 hours of UK release than any other adult hardback novel, say publishers."
- Kol Tregaskes
from Bookmarklet
Amazing writer? He thinks up compelling stories to be sure, but his actual writing is shockingly poor.
- Dawn
Ha! Glen beat me by a split second. The truth is, if you're used to good quality literature, Dan Brown's books are going to seriously annoy you.
- Dawn
I've read The DaVinci Code and I wasn't impressed at all, so gonna give this a pass.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
Yeah i've read them all as well. There is nothing in there that makes me want to read it again. They are titting on the shelf gathering dust.
- Roberto Bonini
I liked DaVinci because I enjoy solving riddles. I liked Angels and Demons for the Pagan references in Rome's fountains and statues. I had fun looking up all the locations and checking out the clues. I think this one's about the Masons - not so interested in them.
- m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
@m9m: Have you have ever read Umberto Eco's The Name Of The Rose and Foucault's Pendulum? I do hear that Angels and Demons is the better Brown book.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
@m9m: :-) Those two were about 10x as good as Dan Brown's. My contention with Brown is that he writes his books like a screenplay, they are not so much meant to be read as they are to be seen. Then again, the movies kinda sucked, too.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
Sometimes a book is a praiseworthy work of art. Sometimes it's a way to stuff your eyes and brain full of words. I read both kinds. (Name of the Rose for the Win, though.)
- m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
waiting for the paperback is a good call, Kol
- chrisofspades
Dawn - Have to agree. I was floored DaVinci Code was as popular as it was, when it reads like a script for a bad 40s serial.
- Ciaoenrico
You guys are obviously reading too slow...it's a page turner, meant to get you from point A to point B with a sense of adventure...it's not literature meant to be soaked up word by delicious word.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Alex, you didn't feel a little let down by Lost Symbol? I did, and I've enjoyed all of Brown's previous works.
- chrisofspades
I haven't read it...just saying that if you stopped to notice that his writing wasn't Shakespeare or Hemmingway, you were reading too slowly. :)
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Dan Brown writes the epitome of beach reading: mediocre writing, fun plots that keep you turning the pages. That said, if the paperback is out by next summer, I'll read it on the beach then.
