No..Teams are for support and sharing of information. Above 7 you could get into a lot of unproductive communication..if there is not structured team meetings
- Brian McClure
Having been part of four 30DCs and various other "virtual teams", the smaller your team the better. With the added challenge of communicating online between various locations (and possibly, timezones), and trying to coordinate everyone's schedules for team meetings, my experience has been that smaller is definitely better. It's also easier for each team member to get the support they need in a smaller group.
- Barb Sabathil
Also teams in any situation perform better if the types of people in them complement each other in how they see situations and do tasks. It can drive you mad to work with people who are not on your total wavelength, but unless you are in a bit of a "discomfort" zone you won't see or do anything new or challenging.
- Rosie Peters
I think Caro's video answers the question. Teams should be smaller, consist of 4 to 5 members.
- Bill Vick
"Surgeon General nominee Regina Benjamin is one accomplished physician. She's won numerous rewards, a MacArthur Foundation genius grant and a Nelson Mandela Award for Health and Human Rights. She's also a doctor who cares so much about her patients, she's been known to accept payment in oysters. So why, then, is America talking about Dr. Benjamin's weight? As Slate points out, the Internet is a-twitter (heck, even Twitter is a-twitter) about Dr. Benjamin's BMI. Can a health official who's overweight -- and therefore, some presume not in charge of her own health -- really take care of America's health?"
- Shevonne
from Bookmarklet
No, size does not matter. People shouldn't assume that she's unhealthy or that she doesn't know how to be healthy just because of her weight. And I don't remember any similar discussion about Larry Summers.
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
Well, for one thing, people are silly if they think BMI is really a useful stat.
- Kevin Pedraja
That's pretty silly. I'm slimmer than this lady so I'm somehow better qualified to be Surgeon General? PUHLEEZE.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
Alright...Diabetes, Thyroid condition, Depression meds, Chronic pain syndromes, Metabolic conditions...there are HUNDREDS of reasons someone can be overweight but still be in control of their health. I call BS on this.
- ‘-.-’ Tutivillus Grift
I wish they "those that would call me fat" would try to stop shoving me into a box that I do not, and will never fit into. My genetics make it impossible for me to fit even when at a low percentage of body fat. I have always had hips and tits, and no matter how much I lose (and I have lost 75lbs thus far) I will still be deemed as heavy. My ideal weight is 175... but to look at their chart and graphs, I will still be obese. Amen my friend Tutivillus... I call bullshit as well.
- The Catz Meow
All she needs is a Bowflex. For only 5 minutes one day a month she can have rock hard abs of steel....LOL
- Mike Bracco
Sadly for her, this lady is spending heaps of time on others' health and too little on her own. Like a lot of people in high pressure jobs. But that doesn't have reflect on her skill as a surgeon.
- Rosie Peters
Size doesn't matter, but health and fitness level does. If her size is an outcome of her being unfit, then size matters. If she's naturally large, then it doesn't. Walk the walk, talk the talk.
- .LAG liked that
Would anyone be saying anything if she were a man?
- Alix Whitmire
I get "democratic women are ugly" chain letters from Republican family members from time to time, so it's a long-standing meme. I don't know that Dr. Benjamin is actually a Democrat, but naturally diehard Republicans are going to treat most anyone that Obama supports as an outsider.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
10 weeks of training everyday and eating right have allowed me to drop 10 pounds and keep it off. Nothing pisses me off more than reading a magazine and seeing the next miracle pill that burns fat. It pisses me off more that people purchase the hype and then gripe when they lose nothing but money.
- mindless_cubicle_drone
+1 vosey - part of the reason I started my/our entire online sites/shows - even this room :) etc. was for the same reason. The false claims, miracle programs and extra hype over health & fitness makes me very frustrated
- Tracy Benham
Most people are lazy. They want the quick fix to everything, weight loss and fitness included. There is no pill or magic drink that will help. Clean eating, cardio, weight training, etc is what gets you there. Some sweat and hard work, why is that so frowned upon now a days. And God forbid you actually enjoy working out. Then people look at you as if you are a freak for enjoying a work out.
- KRV
Worse than mags and miracle pills is people who say "It must have been easier for you than for me" as if you didn't have to work at it at all. Generally said while they are cramming another little treat or 3 into their gullet while reclining in a comfy chair for the day.

Turned out I was easily kept alert by Dan Raine's benevolent monster-voice regularly booming through an underwater chamber. If you don't understand this you weren't there :))

Um, Rosie, I put this question up before yesterday's TV show, which started at 1:30am where I live - I should have made that clearer :)
- Isha (Marysia)
A break in routine can do bad things to your mind. I try to focus on what got me into being fit in the first place and how much effort it took - don't throw that away, you owe it to yourself to get in there and sweat!
- Rosie Peters
yeah real life sometimes just doesn't offer enough time to fit a workout in....it's a learning process :)

Get in there! You will feel tons better. You body will feel better AND you will stop beating yourself up for not going for a while. Both equally important in my book!

Plot your running routes over mountains (view elevation), through the woods (topo maps), and speeding through the city (street level views) with just a few mouse clicks. Once your running map is complete you can quickly view it in 3D, satellite maps, or share it with friends.

This map system rocks! I just worked the distance of my clifftop walk from Lennox Head to Ballina, which goes along cliffs (obviously), along the beach and through the scrub. Awesome. Thanks so much

I'd be interested in this also, I guess it would be an option in the adsense control panel in google.
- TrafficBug
If it's a wordpress blog then deactivate the adsense plugin and reactivate it again to bring the ads back.
- Andy Roberts
You can pause the campaign if that is what you mean?
- Allison
Sadly not wordpress Andy, but thanks, it's an older Site Build It one. Yes, Allison, pause the campaign with the adds not showing on the site for visitors. Any hints??
- Rosie Peters
Adsense (as far as "I" know ) can't be paused, You are simply displaying ads, your not really running a campaign like you would with ADWORDS which can be paused. You say its not a blog, So... If your pages are html than just comment the script (ad) code out on the page(s). Like this <!--(space) adsense script code (space) --> That way the script (ad) code will still be in your page code...

An interesting veggie breakfast shake if you're game!
- Rosie Peters
def will check this out later. I bought some Berrygreen and it is like swamp water (or worse). getting the veggies in is my downfall.
- BEX
I love veggie juice, but that means either paying for fresh juice, or finding and cleaning a juicer. So I don't do it much. But I do cook big pots of veg curry and eats lots of leftovers.

Your shoes get about 75 - 100 miles. Most runners I know replace every 4 months. It depends on how often you run. I have a pair here that are about a year old because according to my logs, I've only run about 65 miles in them and walked about 30. I'll be getting a new pair soon.
- Admiral Anika
Thanks Anika. Can you feel it though when they are run down? I have these sneakers I've had for almost a year, but they seem ok.
- Shevonne
I've found that you become accustomed to them feeling "ok" until you get a new pair and realize when you wear them the first few times that the previous ones were worn out.
- enza (aka iVenus)
Thanks eac! Anika and you have convinced me to get new running shoes. =D
- Shevonne
Check your treads especially if you're an overpronater like I am. EAC is right, sometimes it takes getting new shoes to make you realized how worn down your old ones are.
- Admiral Anika
Though I'm a walker, not a runner, I believe in every 6 months (I'm walking 25km a week)
- Rosie Peters
I've heard to get a few pairs and sort of rotate them, but not so they all wear down evenly... more like, you want to have a mix of new-to-old in your rotation so that you aren't grossly thrown off like you would be if you just switched from a single old pair to a single brand new paid.
- Andrew C
Thanks Anika for the information and Shevonne for asking. My running shoes probably have about 300 miles between treadmill and work.
- Janet
Anika, that doesn't seem to add up to me. I wouldn't consider someone a "runner" who goes less than a mile on foot every day.... I replace shoes when the heel starts to separate or develops a hole too large to ignore, basically.
- Karl Knechtel
about.com says 350-550 miles. http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od... ... by the time sneakers get that beat up karl, all shock absorption is gone and you're increasing your risk for injury.
- tiffany
Yeah. To be fair, I really don't do much running. But I do a hell of a lot of walking. :) And I like to wear thick socks. :)
- Karl Knechtel
also depends on the surface you run on etc. Good rule is about 300-500 miles for a decent pair of running shoes. Use them ( only to run in until they are older - than use them for general use. ( then use them to paint or garden in and then recycle them :)
- Tracy Benham
I have been inspired to start a new routine of being active and working out nearly every single day for the last 2 weeks now. I've been getting a little more rest since doing this, but still wake up extremely tired. My diet is fine as well. I'm guessing it just takes more time to adjust to this routine.
I avoid working on areas that are sore after a previous workout. Any ideas on what can boost my sense of tiredness and give me more energy in the mornings? I'm thinking maybe I need 9 hours of sleep to help my body better recover.
- Rob
Oops, I can't seem to properly edit the original post. Anyway, my first statement was: "Thanks to this FriendFeed group I have been inspired..." :)
- Rob
Sleep is definitely important. Split up your workouts so you could alternate the trained muscle groups.
- DV
:) Yey for the new lifestyle of being more active. It takes a while for the body to respond. Give yourself a little time for your body to adjust. Looking forward to hearing updates !
- Tracy Benham
Congrats on the lifestyle change! That's awesome. Tracy is right, it takes a little while for your body to get used to the new activity. Plus, be sure you take at least one day a week to do nothing too strenuous, maybe nothing more than a walk or a bike ride.
- William Harryman
If you are really sore after your workout or when you wake up, try doing some epsom salt baths after you work out to minimize the pain. And stick with it through the thick and the thin.
- Amani
Good on you Rob. In your inspiration, you may be pushing it a bit much. Aspiring to every single day is going to wear you out. Take 1-2 rest days/wk to stop & smell the roses & let your body take a little break. Just make sure you are getting enough protein & iron in your diet as you will get very weary without these. I don't think you need 9 hours sleep; as you get fit you tend to sleep better & for less hours than someone who is not so fit, so I'd say look really closely at your exercise program & diet.
- Rosie Peters
Thanks all! I look forward to all your future posts in this group. I hope we can keep growing and post more content here. :)
- Rob
I want to caution against one thing Rosie said - unless you are anemic you do not need extra iron - you get enough in your diet (in fact, you'd be better off with an iron-free multi-vitamin) - men do not secrete any of the iron they take in, so it builds up and is a top cause for heart disease
- William Harryman
Good point William, I was thinking like a woman!
- Rosie Peters
Answer for this ? : am completely out of shape. My life had become so hectic several years ago that I totally gave up on fitness. I'm now 60 pounds overweight, have zero endurance and have horrible eating habits. I don't even know where to start...
- Tracy Benham
"Don't overdo it at first" and "start by walking and then address your diet" are great tips from the article and exactly what worked for me.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
Judging by her admission of how overweight she is and that she has "horrible eating habits" this lady is very likely to succeed with weight loss. She seems ready to listen and follow sound advice - she's not making pitiful excuses, which is why so many people fail.
- Rosie Peters
"Yes, women who avoided lifting heavy weights because they feared they were too fragile (their uterus could fall out) or they would become grotesquely disfigured (big muscles are icky) have become fragile (increased fractures) and disfigured (with a stooped posture called “dowager’s hump “) by avoiding lifting heavy weights. I would say that as far as increasing quality of life in their later years, women have more to gain then men by lifting heavy weights. I bet that doesn’t come up with Madonna’s trainer, Tracy Anderson, who argues that no woman should lift more than 3 pounds! (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.) So, you can lift more than 3 pounds now and gain some muscle, or you can look like Quasimodo later. Your call, ladies."
- William Harryman
"Beside drug interventions, most women should also get enough calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D to help with bone formation. But what about nutritional timing after working out? Bodybuilders and athletes know that post-workout nutrition can improve muscle adaptations, but can post-workout nutrition affect bone? Looks like it. This week’s review examines the effect of supplementing...

"The end-of-the-day workout isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, which is why many personal trainers recommend exercising in the morning. They may be on to something — a new study from researchers at Bangor University in Wales suggests that being mentally fatigued may affect endurance exercise performance."

Yesterday I earned $160!!, which to some is not that big, but to me its huge!;), it just goes to show that if you keep trying, keep learning, then it can happen just like it did for me!, so a big huge thanks to all at 30DC!!.
I am guessing you have put in a lot of effort to get that far.... I would imagine hundreds of posts, and tens of pages, and articles. Not easy, but very worth it! Well done
