@Karim, no, it' snot safe to say.. I am the only user on this PC, so nobody else created those folders. But you're on the right track, far too many apps cause foldres to become read-only, which does not happen on XP. As for permissions, I considered switching UAC off, somehow always convincing myself that I shouldn't. Found a bunch of registry hack to cause UAC nag less aggressively, did those.. but I think I am just going to switch it off. - Zoli Erdos

@Kenton, that's just a stupid episode - I am linking to a whole series of frustrating little (or not so little) things in the blog post. I don't want it to be XP. I just want it t work. When I buy a computer that's dressed and sold like a consumer device, I expect it to be usable, without having to spend hours a week looking for registry hacks to fix what does not work.
