"The Linux® technology, development model, and community have all been game-changing influences on the IT industry, and all we can really do is stand back and look at it all, happy to have been along for the ride for developerWorks' first 10 years. The Linux zone team has put together this greatly abbreviated collection of things that stand out in our minds as having rocked the world of Linux in a significant way."

"Hot on the heels of the final release of the Karmic Koala, we've put together a video montage of 64-bit versions of Microsoft's Vista and Windows 7 operating systems booting alongside Canonical's Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10. Watch all four at once and see which one wins! Each operating system has been freshly installed and features exactly the same hardware configuration. Auto-login is enabled, and each will launch Firefox which will then proceed to load our homepage."

"LiVES mixes real-time video performance and non-linear editing in one application. It will let you start editing and making video right away, without having to worry about formats, frame sizes, or frame rates. It is a very flexible tool which can be used by both VJ's and video editors - mix and switch clips from the keyboard, trim and edit your clips, and bring them together using the multi-track time line. You can even record your performance in real time, and then edit it further or render it straight away as a new clip !"

"If you're one of the burgeoning group of people with a Mac or PC hooked up to your TV, you're not alone in your frustration. All you want to do is stream a little Hulu to your HD set, or watch streaming Netflix without one of these. But there's a problem: you can't practically control the thing from your couch."

@Brent you don't need Disqus actually....you can use Backtype connect which imports comments from elsewhere. But you will then need to integrate twitter commenting and facebook connect yourself
- Zee.
i tried it but never really felt right. You can try JS-Kit's Echo too of course http://js-kit.com/
- Zee.
oh but btw, backtype connect doesn't work with P2 just yet...a fix should be here this weekend though
- Zee.
more like a friendfeed than twitter though automattic is calling it twitter like but P2 is a great combination of blog, twitter and friendfeed
- testbeta
for sure @testbeta . I'm not sure if you've read the post, but i've added a fair bit to the P2 theme to make things work "slicker" and be more social
- Zee.
i am reading it now :) thanks nice post
- testbeta
Why would BackType Connect not work? I use BC on my sites now and it works perfectly.
- Otto
There's some compatability issue with P2. The guys at BT are looking into it though. Should be fixed this weekend

@Zee pretty cool mashup you thought up there. I think something similar was being discussed over on the OpenFF thread a few weeks ago, but you filled in a lot of the blanks by incorporating Ping.fm and Posterous. At the end of the day, the issue may still be eye-balls: FriendFeed brought a lot of people together to look over/comment on entries, and the real-time features foster(ed) a...

@Alex thanks man. Yeah, it's still really a work in progress but I've definitely achieved my goal to ensure I have my own personal hosted database of status updates, thoughts, videos, images - all relevant to my day to day life and events. Most importantly...all searchable.

"The Appweb project has released version 3.0 of its cross-platform, dual-licensed embedded web server, which is said to be smaller, faster, and more modular. The Linux-compatible Appweb 3.0 also adds a new server-side "Ejscript" JavaScript framework, faster CGI based on pipes, and a modular pipeline architecture, says the project."

I'm always on the lookout for server side JavaScript, especially since AppJet died.

The Wall Street Journal reports that YouTube is deep in discussions with the movie studios to offer both paid (likely $3.99) and ad-supported movie rentals. This would include new releases, which would be new to YouTube.

I'm not sure this is an iPhone killer, but it definitely looks like the Maemo platform has matured. The N700 and N800 were geek toys. This has far more power, far more storage and a far better camera. Plus it looks like the new iteration of Maemo is much slicker than the current one.
