Wow. I was taken aback from watching this. This is a perfect example of why FOX News has such a bad brand name. I love the way she keeps saying "Trust Me" in the open, and "America's News Room" in the end. - Andrew Baron via Bookmarklet

The objective of this Forum is to extend and develop the discussion that took place at this closed workshop, which is summarised in the Nature Commentary A Network Solution, by inviting opinion and comments from the broader research community. The information gathered here will contribute to the publication of a series of concrete proposals to be presented in a more detailed White Paper, where specific contributions from this Forum will be acknowledged. It is hoped that sharing these views openly here will provide a focus for this complex debate, and help to generate a consensus on the topics that have been raised. - Maxine via Bookmarklet

MySQL is easy to learn, widely-used and "just works" for many tasks. As the writer says, there's a barrier to switching from what you're used to, unless there's a compelling reason. Perhaps the main problem with MySQL is that because the basics are easy to learn, many people don't go beyond the basics - which is required to improve performance. - Neil Saunders
I never got the 'easy to learn' part. At that level, SQL is the same (and for the most part, identical) for Postgres and MySQL. Is it for administration? That might be, though I never administered a MySQL db - Rajarshi Guha
I'm a heavy Postgres user. Don't believe the hype about it being massively better than MySQL. It does have some advantages, but MySQL does too (for example, better GUI admin tools, more resources on the web about tuning it). - Nick Lothian
I've always used MySQL. But I have had the opportunity to use Postgres for a school project I did to help out a buddy. At the time it had to be done in Postgres because MySQL didn't allow transactions or whatever they are called. - Ricardo Vidal
I also happened to stumble across that wikivs.com page and noticed the table showing Postgres to be sooooo much better. But hey, MS Word 2007 is probably sooooo much better than Word 95, but the core features that nearly EVERYONE uses, are still the same. - Ricardo Vidal
I find MySQL admin pretty easy and postgres admin pretty hard, just in terms of how the syntax looks to a new user. But have barely used postgres, so can't really give a fair opinion. - Neil Saunders

Is this website part of the liquidpub project? Little confused about what the context of the paper is? - Cameron Neylon
"Interdisciplines" is a "virtual online conference" which has one session centered around Scientific Publications 3.0. This paper is one of the papers discussed in that context but as far as I know, it doesn't stem from Liquidpub. Rather, the people behind Interdisciplines are also behind LiquidPub... - Enro
