TUAW also notes the MacBook loses an audio-out port (which you’d use for microphones and other output devices). Not entirely, however: he audio-out port has been combined with the audio-in port. Still, this could be a drag for musicians who record while monitoring with headphones.

I have not yet seen a microphone that is an output device. ;)

cheap piezo mics can double as buzzers. don't think that's quite what apple has going on here though.

There are USB speakers, I don't know of any USB headphones or microphone.

It all about what the customer doesn't know they want. Won't be long till ditch RJ-45 or create some spec no one uses and call it something cute like mini-ethernet.
