سلام به مریم خانوم و همسر گرامی که پرسپولیسی هم شدند :دی - ɱil∂ɗ
Dear Maryam Please Translate My Comment For Robert :D - ɱil∂ɗ
Milad: go Persopolis! :-) Maryam says hi. We are off to sleep. - Robert Scoble
I'd rather say your marriage is over when your are twittering in bed with someone other than your spouse - Antoine Bertier
Have a Good Night Byebye And Khodahafez :D - ɱil∂ɗ
رابرت جان تو رخت خواب یه کار دیگه میکنند نه توئیت ;) - Parsa Fatehi
as long as you don't choose twittering over sex, you're ok - Jason Lovett
dangerous...my wife is still hooked on myspace. she has a long way to go until she lands in twitterville. - Don Martelli via twhirl
jason lovett and parsa fatehi and i are having the same comment :P - Sima Bagheri
Been there - you should've never got her started :) BTW, are you still interested in coming over for FOWA London? We'd love to have you. Feel free to hit me up on AIM (ryanleecarson) - Ryan Carson
*imaginary Muslim sending divorce letter to his wife on Twitter* DIVORCE DIVORCE DIVORCE - silpol
I twitter in bed sometimes too... It's natural and nothing to be ashamed about. - Tad - just Tad
Some day in the future: "We are all gathered to this FriendFeed room..." "If you RogerVampireSlayer want to take this HelloKitty145 as your wife, please share 'I do' ..." - Joni Moilanen
“I've been thinking about friendship all week. I've decided that I wouldn't let someone who incessantly attacked another of my friends into my living room. So, why would I do that here on FriendFeed?”
Jay: it's a lot easier to tear down than to build up. Plus, by fighting with people you aggregate attention (everyone in High School pays attention to a fight, but rarely pays attention to the smart kid building a science project). - Robert Scoble
cool rule and analogy... Is that an analogy? I agree with you. No different than phishing for followers is attacking people for the sake of attention and then hoping attention = followers. If everyone was nice... THen everyone else would be nice!! HUH? - Cody Heitschmidt
The only problem with this argument is you can't exactly mimic your real life behavior with your virtual ones. - Muthu Ramadoss
bravos, robert. there is never an excuse for bad manners - Dave Martin
Muthu - Not true in this case you sure as hell can defend and protect those your care about in anysituation - Cody Heitschmidt
Attacks are a cheap way of scoring points and often say more about the attacker then the victim. Like Jay says, it brings attention, but if done simply for that purpose, it can be a difficult ledge to step back from. - Ross Maguire
Depends on the context, I guess. Reasonable people can disagree and have opposing points of view, but repeated ad hominem attacks are simply unacceptable, no? - Andrew Feinberg
I think everyone needs to go outside and breathe some actual air. Maybe see that thing called sunshine all the cool kids are talking about. - Cyndy
Something we all should do. If there were consequences to being mean rather than rewards more people might try being nice. - Summer
Andrew: a disagreement is one thing. I'm talking about something else. Agree. Cyndy: I live in Half Moon Bay. It's overcast right now. And, anyway, I saw enough of the sun this week in Washington DC to last me a month! :-) - Robert Scoble
I think part of the problem is the term "friend". Just because you subscribe to someone's feed doesn't mean you have to like or even respect that person. - Mike Doeff
Mike: I'm talking about real life friends in this post. You know, those kinds of people you've had dinner with and done stuff with and who've been over your house, and all that? But, yes, I'd apply this same test to the people I'm following here on FriendFeed. If I saw someone attacking one of my online friends over and over I'd block them too. It's behavior I don't need in my life. - Robert Scoble
I agree. Who needs the negativity? There's enough of that in the world. Having a respectful difference of opinion is one thing; but a situation where one person constantly attacks other people is not helpful for anyone. It's pointless in person or online. - Cathryn Hrudicka
I agree - online attacking or bickering or arguments are pointless anyways most of the time - having said that I think I've only ever blocked one person on twitter and that was 'cos they were spamming adverts for some sort of crap - Joe Breen
Civility is important in all arenas, but we must remember that there is a difference between online interactions and real life. Humor, etiquette, and context are all things that are radically different online, and as such, do not have the gravity of face-to-face rudeness or niceness. Besides, Twitter and FF are tools, as are many of the people I follow on them ;) See? That joke might not fly IRL. Oh wait... It didn't here either. - Juan Aguilar
Yes, but you can still hear about attackers from others, blocking only works half well. - Jeremiah Owyang
So right. Even if you are having a disagreement, there's basic respect. Either you are building the relationship or you are destroying it. Be honest about that choice, and ask yourself if that's really the kind of person you want to be. If you make the choice to be a jerk, don't go labeling yourself a hero. - Ro (Lilyhill)
Jeremiah: that would work just like it does in my living room. My friends often tell me about people who hate me, attack me, or lie about me to Valleywag. That doesn't mean that I need to let those people into my living room (or get unblocked here on FriendFeed). - Robert Scoble
then again on the flipside it's interesting for us onlookers if/when arrington & scoble argue/attack/bicker. :) - Joe Breen
The lack of truly personal interaction has brought about a lack of civility and too many pointless arguments. - David Z
@David Z: Very astute observation IMO. Amazing how many 'fierce and fiery' folks via email or IM suddenly become very cordial when you get them on the phone, much less have a face to face. - AJ Kohn
I used to think like this when I had a BBS in 1990s. The BBS actually was in my living room so I had no worries about telling people the rules. I learnt then that some people who are reasonable in the "real world" are nutjobs online.. - Stuart Woodward
You are an inspiration to many of us Scoble. - Satya Boora
Fair enough, though for me, FriendFeed is *not* my living room. - Brent Newhall
I agree - there is no reason why people should treat people online differently than they would IRL. Although on the internet it is difficult to behave the same way .. as you may meet people online you would have never met IRL, talk to people would have been too self conscience to talk to, etc. so it gives weak people a place to get all that real life anger out on people they will never meet. which is pretty messed up, but as a former shy girl .. i went through that when I 1st went online a million yrs ago. - Jenz
It depends on your definition of attack. If by attack you mean disagree, even passionately, then I disagree. - Michael Tefft
I've been pondering this myself. But then, I'm zealously guarded about whom I let into my house... I don't necessarily consider FriendFeed on the same level. But I'm very confused about what seem to be 'mixed standards' from folks of late. Like why one sort of attack is deemed "funny" or "keeping it real" and another is just deemed "trollish" when they seem the same to me. It's a very grey area for me. - Lucretia Pruitt
Thanks for sharing your experiences in DC... these blogs, comments, pictures, videos and interviews are really amazing!! I feel like I was able to go there vicariously through your visit - Susan Beebe
Yeah, I'm using a Canon 5D. I uploaded 31 pictures last night to this set, really great week. - Robert Scoble
RS -- did you have an opportunity to bring up your concerns about an Iran War with Pelosi or any other VIP? - Sean McBride
Hey Robert - we'd be honored to have you speak at FOWA London in October. Interested? - Ryan Carson via Alert Thingy
Sean: No. My agenda was to learn about tech/business policy. It's pretty clear, though, that the current president is not going to be able to get anything done with this Congress, certainly if he tries to go to war he's going to get a LOT of resistance. - Robert Scoble
Ryan: I'm interested, but October is pretty nutty for me. I'll work on my schedule this week, let's talk on, say, Monday afternoon? - Robert Scoble
By the way, all my photos are donated to Public Domain, so if you want a shot of the White House, you can use mine without giving me credit. - Robert Scoble
Scobles' for Prez !! .if he runs in 2018 will you elect him ? :)- pss. take a look at the first pic ! - Peter Dawson
Peter: yeah, look at that first photo: FriendFeed goes to the White House! :-) - Robert Scoble
Robert, great experience for you son, he will remember this always. What an awesome time in history for him to be able to experience this and see if from the inside. Thanks for sharing with FF. - Fred Neil
This is good stuff Robert - Especially your comment about Public Domain. Have used one or two in the past. Agree, fabulous experience for your son. Did you say the Press Secretary is on Friendfeed now ?? :) - Charlie Anzman
RS - just let me point out that if Bush, Cheney and the neocons do succeed in pushing an Iran War over the opposition of the American people, the effects on the high tech industry could be catastrophic -- these issues are intimately linked. A devasted American economy will directly impact high tech projects in a negative way. - Sean McBride
Charlie: I'm trying to get Scott Stanzel onto FriendFeed. I think it'd be an awesome way for him to find a new PR job after he is sent back to normal life in January. :-) - Robert Scoble
Robert, when are you going to enter politics? I think you'd fare well, especially in San Francisco. - Jesse Stay via twhirl
Rocky would tell those press where to put it (love that pic!) - Jesse Stay via twhirl
That'd be fab. Want to DM me your mobile number or IM? I'm ryancarson on Twitter. - Ryan Carson via Alert Thingy
Jesse: Scoble has some winning traits for a career in politics: bright, personable and focused on enlightened, creative capitalism. And, unlike John McCain, he actually has some experience with using a PC on the Internet. :) - Sean McBride
These are fantastic! Now I'm going to have to subscribe to your feed again, Robert. ; ) Love the one of Rocky at the WWII memorial. Did you take that? Simply gorgeous. - Carla Thompson
Carla, yeah, I shot that of Rocky. Thomas Hawk taught me to use a simple 50 mm fast lens and to appreciate the night light for getting great photos. - Robert Scoble
huh, that's odd, I was under the impression that you were the Senior Executive Vice *Group* Director of VP Coordination & Vision... did you not allocate your synergies properly and get demoted?? - felix
"Senior Executive Vice Director of VP Coordination & Vision" and "Deputy Senior VP of Strategic Synergy" Fantastic! SEVP of VPCP and DSVP of SS... - Mitchell Tsai
Ah! Interesting :) The funniest is that these guys don't even wear shoes at work, and play with thier bicycles in the office - directeur via NoiseRiver
ok pauls title is really wacky - "Sr. Executive Vice Director of VP Coordination & Vision" - like wtf does that mean ? SERIOUSLY !! btw what does "VP" stand for ? - Peter Dawson
Scott Adams (?): "If it's more than two words, it's not a career" - Philipp Lenssen
I want Senior Fetchit Boy reporting the Staff Photographer. - Russellreno
These are beyond fantastic. Can I be your Human Branding Liaison? - Ginger Makela
I know a guy who runs a 600-person company, and walks around the offices barefoot! Not even sandals. My brother works there - Rhythm & Hues Studios - http://rhythm.com - Mitchell Tsai
Another company I helped rented a house at the beach - rather than a traditional office. Lot of fun having meetings there. They took surfing breaks for lunch. - Mitchell Tsai
I think i need to include those in full in all posts from now on - MG Siegler
longest title i've ever seen - you could have thrown in an acronym! - Allen Stern
You need a staff librarian. No, really, you do. I'm available, and like most librarians, I work cheap. - Cecily Walker
Did you guys steal these titles from Yahoo? - Eric Eldon
Is Ana still the "Chief Miscellaneous Officer" or does she go by a different title these days? Also, I'd like to know the other FFers' titles. - April Buchheit
Did you get to make up your own? The coolest title I've seen has been for a Microsoft employee - Professional Geek (before he worked there his title was Amateur Geek) - Craig Thomler
I actually have an outstanding diplomatic relations issue with wyoming. Who would I talk to about that? - J. Phil
So Bret, what's your title ? (This kind of culture is the kind that spawns neat stuff. Always has, always will. Keep it up!) - Charlie Anzman
Mine is "Supreme Allied Commander." I was always jealous of NATO. - Bret Taylor
I'm a little scared that some people don't seem to realize it's a joke. - Alan Cheslow
And here I was soo confused thinking Bret was the CEO! hehehe (ok he really is guys!!) - Susan Beebe
I just noticed Casey has Asian strategy in Wyoming? yo what?! - that's funny! - Susan Beebe
Do you have any Master Squirrel Hearders (project mgrs) yet?? that's my specialty - Susan Beebe
I really want a title too. If I bring all the Mommybloggers over...I better get one dammit - Erin Kotecki Vest
So is Casey's job to reach out to those parts of the world that twitter works? - Nancy Babyak
I got mine this morning: "Kevin Fox - Comptroller Third-Class, Tiger Team V" We are so going to kick Tiger Team III's ass at this year's interoffolympics!!! - Kevin Fox
haha! I wish more work places were like this. - Tsega Dinka
I'd like to be the senior vice associate president of all things that the senior executive vice director of vp coordination and vision doesn't see. - Robert Scoble
Nice job title Paul! Did you try to max out the characters that would fit? :) - Alex Barbara
Sad that we're commenting here instead of on Twitter. Sad for Twitter, not for Friendfeed of course. :-) - Dave Delaney
Yep, I like Twitter, but I have to admit that I kinda like FriendFeed. Even if Twitter used to work better, conversations are not it's strength, and I find FriendFeed really more efficient in that regard. - fbrunel
I joined FF because of this article, but it's difficult to convince more friends to move over to friendfeed when I've already got them on Pownce and Twitter. - Michael Narciso via twhirl
I love the photo on that post. Suddenly the 405 doesn't seem so bad. - Mark Krynsky
interesting... I haven't particularly noticed that. Maybe I'm not swimming deep enough in "conversation" - Stephanie Booth via twhirl
oh, and I'm commenting here because this is where I happened to see the post go by ;-) - Stephanie Booth via twhirl
Were there ever really conversations on twitter? I thought it was more of a noisy room where people shouted at each other in hopes of being heard. - Andrew Garrett
I'm still trying to figure out how you converse in a crowded and noisy bus. Once I know that, I'll have well-honed twitter skills, for sure. - Bernie Goldbach
Well, I just got the Friend Feed version of the Fail Whale, so be careful what you wish for. - Shemp DeYoung
I get the feeling that we are reaching a tipping point for Twitter - Jamie
My first day really trying to ignore twitter. FriendFeed just doesn't feel the same but if it enables 2 way communication i'm in - Steve Allen
i still like Twitter. but while i wait for it to get its act together, i'm cheating on it right now by using FriendFeed. call it an open relationship with no strings attached. heh. - Christine Lu
But the fact is, we've already done so much on Twitter, and leaving it would be throwing all of it away and any hopes of it making a comeback. But what I see here is still a Twitter message which proves that most of our elders on FriendFeed are still using it. I'd like to see any of you cease to use it anymore, and maybe it will have a greater affect on others to do the same. - Josh Jenkins
I just have a lot more followers on Twitter :) I don't think everyone is ready to switch to FriendFeed just yet. FriendFeed doesn't have a lot of features like SMS, and it really doesn't cater that well to regular messages - Chacha via twhirl
I prefer reading things on friendfeed but I still tend to only post to twitter. Strange isn't it? - Jason Mitchell via Alert Thingy
I don't think that FriendFeed has that great of a Messaging System. Just really a Sharing System - Chacha via twhirl
Going along with that comment, I can't really find another service besides Twitter that updates as frequently on FriendFeed - Chacha via twhirl
That's just damn fine writing. You had me at "frail architecture." [Also, if Twitter was mentioned on The Daily Show, then it has finally jumped the snark.] - Donna Mugavero
I've taken the week off from Twitter.... the commenting system on FF is amazing. Twitter needs to step it up. - Jason Calacanis
I have to agree with @chacha102, I don't think everyone is ready to fully switch FriendFeed - Justin Yost
Twitter folks have gotta be shitting bricks right now - Jarin Udom
I think twitter will end up being a place for status updates as it was initially intended. - Tsega Dinka
Quick Unsolicited PR/Customer Service Tip - When there are signs of a mass migration away from your service, it's probably not a good time to schedule a mid-day three hour maintenance window. Just grin and bear it until the next after hours scheduled maintenance period. - Ken Sheppardson
Sprague, scroll back a few more pages. It's rearing its ugly head again. - Cyndy
Would I be so bold as to suggest that conversations YOU are involved in are moving to FF. This is not one social network. There are thousands upon thousands of cliques within the network that are quite happy with twitter being a slow sometimes unreliable SMS/IM replacement as there are active communities on Pownce, Jaiku and Jiwai.de. - Dedric
We definitely want feedback. I literally had six versions of the algorithm running in parallel, and this is the best one according to our qualitative assessment, but we need more data to really improve it. Let me know if you see too much of something or missed something you think is important - it will help me debug quality issues. - Bret Taylor
@scobleizer: It also does a bit of what you want for individual services as well. Here are the best Twitters from the past day: http://friendfeed.com/summary?.... Click the service icons to restrict the "best of" view to a single service. It doesn't let you send the link out to anyone since it is entirely personalized, nor is it the generalized search interface you described, but it is a step in that direction. - Bret Taylor
Also looks like the date can go from 1 thru 30. greater than 30 reverts to 30 - Atul Arora
Bret: that's very cool. It's amazing how few things I actually have missed. But, this will be useful to check in on. One thing I do wish it had was "big things since last time you were here." - Robert Scoble
Next? I'd love to have a way to see a true reverse-chronological view of the "Everyone" feed, but let me filter by "n" Likes and "n" Comments. - Robert Scoble
How about, do a time stamp of the last time Robert logged in, and every hour afterward, do a screen capture of every single update from everybody he follows, save it as a massive PDF file, and send it to him via e-mail attachment. Repeat every 60 minutes. - Louis Gray
perfect! now i only need to convince most of my friends to update their webbrowse behavior. most of them still didnt make the jump too rss and sharing is done mostly by skype :( - krz9000
Great addition. I'd also like to see it applicable at the individual user level. - Mark Krynsky
Been really looking forward to this since seeing it mentioned on "The Dan Farber Show"! In typical FF style, great feature with simple, clear implementation. Yummy! - Matt Harwood
This is very cool. As soon as they provide an Atom feed of this, it'll be the most kickass service ever. - Eric Florenzano
hmmm, this is my top post. Nice one - Andrew Smith
This is a great addition, shows that they are listening to what people want! - Joe Dawson
Very nice feature, for me, given the addiction, I suspect the "day" one will be the most used to make sure I didn't miss anything good. :) - felix
Bret: Yeah!! Great feature!! I've been waiting for this one! woo hoo! :) - Susan Beebe
Feedback: 1-day, 3-day, and 7-day look pretty good. 14-day and 30-day summaries seem swamped by the last 7 days (Maybe searches in 10-30-days should have older items weighted heavier than in 1-3-7 day summaries). Awesome! This really helps with the "Page 11" (Search past #300-399 fails design). My Friends feed (of 149 people) only goes back about 4 hrs. Everything past that is lost... Wish my regular Friends feed would save 24+ hrs. Nice job Bret! - Mitchell Tsai
ooh, what's this? ok, same thing I already talked about. awesome! - Kamilah Gill
Bret, you are an absolute genius. Every time I hear you speak (or write) I am just more and more impressed. - Alex Hammer
Search by service for Top 100 YouTube pictures, Blog articles, Google Reader/Del.icio.us articles, Last.fm songs... We can search for "&service=picasa&num=100", "&service=flickr", "&service=blog", "&service=googlereader","&service=delicious" See http://friendfeed.com/e/34f7f6... for multiple Top 100 searches from the past 1-2-3-7-14-30 days. - Mitchell Tsai
Well, I must say it works! I've already found three things I had missed this week and really interest me. - Andrés David Aparicio
wow, that's actually kinda...useful! - Sarah Perez
This could prove beneficial, what is the algorithm they are using? - Chris
My guess would be comments and likes - Bwana McCall
Hmm.. And this is the first item in my personalized recommendations? I guess it works :) - Dimitri Glazkov
What's very VERY cool is that service filters work with this as well http://friendfeed.com/e/02adb6.... EDIT: I just saw Mitchell already posted this feature. I should have known, he's always on top of these things :) - Bwana McCall
Nice, that was the thing to do. I hope to get something like that for Twitter and I think it's still possible to make. - fbrunel
I bet FF hires Mitchell to code up queries!! LOL good stuff here Bret & Mitchell!! - Susan Beebe
@Bret: I'm sad you don't support APML. - directeur
Susan: I'm just too lazy (and retired May 2007). Now I code in Excel & FriendFeed (rather than Fortran 66 & Cobol). I just bookmark my own FriendFeed posts in Safari & Firefox rather than make too many Safari bookmark-sub-menus. Getting too lazy to write HTML or LAMP. ;-) Headed to Yosemite in a few days after the Harmony Festival this weekend - Robert Scoble's Ansel Adams visit was too tempting :0) - Mitchell Tsai
Awaiting for more kick-ass features from FF! Great work! - Winston Teo
This is great Bret. FF keeps getting better. - Michael Carter
Hmmm. If the list of most popular posts contains only posts which I have liked, commented on or clicked through, does that make me the most popular friendfeeder ever? ;-) - Slippy Lane
Are there plans to extend "best of" to FF rooms? Depending on the number of members and activity, that could be really interesting. - Tom Landini
This is so incredibly awesome. FriendFeed just returned to the same level of utility (for my usage patterns) as before the launch / noise onslaught. :-) - Kevin Scott
awesome, thats useful! now i need direct messages, go one - Alexander Oelling
I find it interesting on how this feature is at the top of "best of the month." Seems kinda pointless. - Here's... possible248!
Finally back on a full computer after a nearly two-week absence (no, I didn't go to Peru, I went to Alabama). Looks nice. - Ontario Emperor
Great addition! Next feature request: let me filter by people I really know vs. people I just like to follow so I can see what my "real" friends are doing at a glance. - Dave Hanson
