@baba12 I'm very humbled by my trip to China and very pissed off at American media who don't tell American's full picture of what's going on
Who is American media? Seriously, I'm asking. Occasionally I check out MSNBC. But Tom Friedman goes to China frequently. - Christopher Galtenberg
What picture do you think the American media should be painting of China? They are quickly industrializing and it's exciting to see how much growth they are able to sustain... It's amazing what 1B+ people can do - Chris Reichow
Christopher: I watch a lot of media. CNN, MSNBC, ABC, New York Times, tons of different newspaper and blogs. We only see a very small slice of the world on our media. It's not just about China, either. We get tons of celebrity news, but not much about the world. - Robert Scoble
Robert, you are part of the American media and you are telling us what is really going on. The old guard media is dying. People like you will replace them. Hang in there and keep it coming. - Steve Olson
Chris: they should tell the American people the truth of why jobs are getting outsourced. It's not just about low cost anymore. Also, when you see the HUGE library and book store here in Shenzhen you see a people who value learning. THAT should be a wakeup call for Americans. Instead of talking about abortion or what Britney Spears ate for lunch they should be worried about how to compete on global scale. - Robert Scoble
Wow, that IS an eye opener for at least This American! - Carlton Hackett
India still has a long way to go before it can have the kind of influence economic China wields. India's got a great deal of problems that are not going to be easily solved with the type of gov't in place and the lack of leaders this country has. It amazes me how much India has progressed despite the gov't. The motto running this country that I've seen is "Greed is Good!" - Pankaj from IM
I think china has 10 to our 1 new engineer/comp sci graduating every year. that is shocking our lack of new talent - Bryan Thatcher from twhirl
Scobleizer, the Americans already had a taste of what China has to offer from the Olympics, especially the opening and closing ceremonies. Wait til people rummage through your flicker photo and video streams how fast China has progressed over the years. :) - imabonehead
not sure about the quality of eng coming out of china but in India over 900,00 engineers graduate each year. less than 5% are globally employable - Pankaj from IM
The culture of anti-intellectualism which has seized control of the right in recent years is helping to undermine American competitiveness in the world. Most Americans are unable to make the connection between the rise of a George W. Bush and Sarah Palin in American politics and the decline of the American economy. - Sean McBride
If you still can't blog, just e-mail me the text with your login and password, and I'll post for you. The whole Web will watch. - Louis Gray
Louis: the problem is I'm tired by the time I get home so it's all I can do to Twitter and FriendFeed. Blogging? Hmmm. - Robert Scoble
Now you know how it feels for many of us in China. There is an awful lot more to China than the same old stale stuff. - Paul Denlinger
American Media?? You mean there are others besides Twitter, Friendfeed, and HuffPost?? :p - Clarence Chiang
Oh dear ... I was afraid we are being sheltered from the truth...no surprise, but still angry too! - Susan Beebe
was waiting for this to be blamed on president bush and wasn't disappointed when that happened. - Jonathan Jesse
I watch almost no TV, but get my news online. One thing I really like about online news is that it is so easy to read what I want to, and skim past the stuff that doesn't interest me. Of course that works both ways. I've not the slightest interest in the celebrity bimbos, so skip that myself, but I could read that and nothing else. I check into a few UK sources too - BBC, Guardian, Telegraph. They give a more balanced world view, in my opinion, than domestic US media. - Ian May
As someone who works everyday with an offshore Indian development team I'd agree with Pankaj's comments. We (the west) are still outsourcing based on cost but in many cases the offshore teams (particularly in India) aren't mature enough to deal with us. Some of the issues I see regularly are a shortage of good lead developers but loads of green ones, coupled with a culture that promotes teaching over learning. - Andy Davies
This is a given. All Americans should NOT take our media with anything more than a grain of salt and read international media. - Patricia
I doubt Americans have any less interest in learning. Their government doesn't pay for their bookstores (or wait, maybe they do - they're called Libraries - I've seen some pretty big ones), so they make wiser economic decisions. - Jesse Stay
Visiting a bookstore in China is one of the scariest things I did when I lived over there. Not only are their wall after wall of business books (Inventory Management Guide vol. 6, Elements of Human Resources Management in low wage industries, etc) but there is a growing number of 'creative' works coming out. When the creative ideas developed 'in house' in China meet the factory powerhouses, oh holy crap. It won't just be Joe the factory guy looking for work... - Andrew Leyden
Great insights Mr Scoble, Post China, I hope you do a detailed blog post and perhaps video or two on what you have learned/think - JimmyJet
The story perpetuated by the media continues to be one of the Chinese government "controlling" everything, especially information, in China. However, I think the vast amount of information out there is simply uncontrollable, despite whatever firewalls are in place. Once they start to take that information and COLLABORATE, then they can truly INNOVATE, and that's what should give us pause... - Chris Reichow
great that you recognize shortcomings of MSM take on China, but it's what sells. Also, bear in mind that your trip (although you met with perfect people for such a trip) was a "survey course" at best. It takes a ton of effort and time to get perspective on the place and to dig through what people in meetings are actually saying. The truth is probably somewhere in-between. I am personally so happy that you made the trip, and that you will hopefully be a fair-broker of China-related information out there. - sage brennan
sage: yup, you can only get an incomplete picture, but I've gotten access to stuff that would blow your mind. Unfortunately I can't tell about a lot of it. But there is major disruption happening right in front of us. I'm working on a blog post now. - Robert Scoble
Robert- i'm glad that you're seeing these things and blogging about it. it's good for others to see. @Sean Mcbride, can you elaborate on anti-intellectualism? - Patricia
Patricia -- I was referencing a good deal of past discussion here with Robert Scoble and others about know-nothing (and anti-intellectual) trends in the Republican Party in recent years to attack and deride the coastal elites which are most responsible for generating the intellectual capital that is barely keeping America competitive with China, India, Europe and the rest of the world. A nation which ridicules intellectual achievement is heading for immense economic problems. - Sean McBride
Unfortunately, it's the celebrity news that America in general is most interested in, so that's what kind of "news" media will break and cover. It's what gets ratings and makes money. - Nathan Johns

Now that we're a "communist country" @rocmanusa and me are going to China to study real communism and see what we can learn. :-)
In communist America, communism studies you! - Will Higgins™
Yea, right. China is a communist country the same way the Republican party is the party of small business standing up against Wall Street and the investment bankers and against "socialism". - Paul Denlinger
Have a safe trip Scoble! - Les Zaldor
That is a great idea.. Next thing you know everyone is going to want free haircuts just like they do in China - EminiAddict
Hilarious. You will learn aplenty in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, but precious little about communism. Have a great trip; sorry I will miss you in SH. - sage brennan
haha. Good luck on your trip. - David Cook
By the way, one thing I recommend for any visitor to China is visit a bookstore if possible (even the ones in airports). You'll be shocked at all the business management / capitalism books you'll find (and one tiny shelf of Communist stuff). - Andrew Leyden

Anti-radiation maternity clothes in China - http://asia.cnet.com/blogs...
Renee (7 mos pregnant) and I were talking about this inexplicable cultural terror of radiation among pregnant Chinese women. Refusing to watch TV or use a computer for several months seems quite extreme to me, but is absolutely the accepted norm in China. I suppose they also ask China Mobile to shut down nearby cell-sites and refuse to use electric light bulbs?!?! To each her own... - sage brennan
I'm so glad my wife didn't fall for that when she was pregnant. Her coworkers thought she was horribly irresponsible, but thankfully she hadn't totally slept through college physics... - John Biesnecker

Busy day ahead, but most of afternoon I'll spend at ChinaJoy which is fun. And tonight you'll find me in Mesa at the Popcap party.
china joy - was there yesterday. Don't think I have seen more women in bikinis and short short clothes since beijng on a beach in Australia. Take a couple of fans with you Marc, because it is going to be hot. - Nicolas
Still maintaining my ChinaJoy boycott this year... unless there's free beer. Too hot to journey over to Pu-Jersey today. - sage brennan
I'll be at BigWorld party at Blues&Jazz and the PopCap at Mesa parties tonight. If I can stay awake. Not a sure thing. - sage brennan

Authorities order bars not to serve black people (SCMP) - http://olympics.scmp.com/Article...
I don't find any proof for that claim in the article, except unnamed bar owners. Really vile reporting style. - Carsten Ullrich from feedalizr
I agree, but the SCMP has such a pro-Beijing tone, I guessed there must be some truth in it, but indeed, proof is lacking - Fons Tuinstra
Boyce rebutted this story. Worth a look: http://www.beijingboyce.com/2008... - sage brennan
In the past the SCMP could write whatever they wanted; now they get debunked with an hour and look foolish - Fons Tuinstra
I'm sure that'll do wonders for their PR campaign with African diploamtic "friends." Anyhow, diplomacy is a game that political entities play for their own agendas. - Mark Forman

Welcome Twitterers! Here, let us show you around FriendFeed's cool features...
Check out the search engine. It's like Summize, except it searches ALL data types, not just Twitter messages. - Robert Scoble
Click on the "me" tab. That shows YOU what YOU posted. But then click on the "comments" and "like" links over on the right. That shows you what you commented on, or liked. Well, unless you're looking at the me tab on MY account! - Robert Scoble
what are the best apps? just installed MySocial 24x7 the FF3 sidebar, also playing aroung with Feedalizr and Alert Thingy - Tomas Nihlen
Don't miss the "Show best of." These will show you the most popular FF items of the day, week, or month. Great way to get up to speed on what gets discussed here (and to find some new people to subscribe to). - Robert Scoble
only thing is: (and like to emphasize that: I simply miss Twitter!) Come to think of it; can we, as long as Twitter's down, do a Miss Twitter Election? - Adri Munier
One day you like Twitter, the other day you hate it huh? ;-) - Rutger Blom
Comment often. Like often. These are signals to other people that you found an item engaging and important. Soon you'll find that we're also engaging on YOUR items. - Robert Scoble
Make sure you add all your feeds. Flickr photos. Upcoming events. Twitter (so we'll know when it's back up and be able to discuss your best tweets). Your Digg and Del.icio.us accounts. And lots more. The more you put into FriendFeed the more people will engage with you. - Robert Scoble
Is this planned maintenance or more of the same? I am trying to come up with reasons why FF should continue to take second place and I still can't work it out. What am I missing? Twitter's simplicity? I just don't see Twitter as an effective conversation tool. It seems more appropriate as a one way communication tool. - Paul Jacobson from twhirl
Don't miss the "more" menu under each cluster. It does a lot. It also lets you delete comments if you start a cluster, link to a cluster, and, well, more. - Robert Scoble
Click the icons off to the left. Click a Flickr one, for instance, and you'll see all the Flickr photos from everyone you're following. Hint: if you want to see ALL Flickr photos from EVERYONE, click on the "everyone" tab first, then click the icons. - Robert Scoble
I've been resistant to this. I like the simplicity of twitter. However, I also like being on a network that actually works, so maybe it's time to go ff full time. - Adam Christie
This is a good, short intro for FF newbies. Wish someone had posted a similar note when I first joined. FF is a bit murkier than Twitter for new users. I also found http://frienderati.alltop.com/ to be very helpful. - sage brennan
When you get tired of seeing a particular FriendFeed item, just click "hide." Don't worry, that just hides it from your view. You can see hidden items at the bottom of the page. - Robert Scoble
The squeaky friends get the grease ;-) - Paul Short
Click on "Friend Settings." There's some cool stuff in there. This is where you can see who is subscribed to you, who you are subscribed to, some cool stats (useful after you like and comment on a bunch of stuff to learn who you like the best) and some ways to find new friends to subscribe to. Just don't subscribe to that Scoble guy, he's very noisy! - Robert Scoble
Can we all just leave Twitter? - Anthony Onumonu
Once in a while you'll see a jerk in here. Here's how to deal with them: visit their page, then at the top you'll see a link titled "Block." Don't be afraid to block jerks. That helps keep the community clean of drama for everyone. Heck, don't be afraid to block me if you don't want to see me anymore. You define yourself by who you follow and who you allow into your life. One thing: you can still see people you blocked in the "Everyone" tab. They will still show up in searches you do there. - Robert Scoble
Feel free to use the hide button as you read items, even if it is a topic your interested in. Don't worry, if more conversation occurs on the topic, it will pop back up in your feed again. I like to use this to "clear" the screen, so it isn't so cluttered and I am not re-reading something I have already seen. - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
I like Twitter and will go back as soon as it's up. I used to look at it as FriendFeed vs. Twitter. It's not. They both work great together. FriendFeed is much nicer place to have a conversation. - Robert Scoble
The best thing I ever did was to add a few greasemonkey plugins like the one that removes viewed links and filter by service. It's OK now. - Calley Nye
FriendFeed's worst attribute is that it rewards people who visit often. Click "F5" to refresh your browser's page. This is especially important if you're following lots of people, or are watching the "Everyone" page (it changes every few seconds). - Robert Scoble
Is someone posting too much information? You can "filter" content by service for a user, or by a service for all users. Click the hide button, then click 'See options for hiding other items like this' - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
Do a search under the Everyone tab for your city name to find FFs and topics from your local area. This ain't just a San Fran Soical party! - Johnny Worthington
I agree with Robert - FriendFeed has almost become the "home" page in my browser. Invariably it's sat in my browser most of the day... sure, it could be improved (grouping of contacts into channels), but it's very, very good... - Jonathan Beckett
If you have one of those newfangled iPhones, check out http://www.friendfeed.com/iphone - Robert Scoble
Oh one more thing....what's the deal with rooms? Do you have to make your own or can you find existing ones? - Calley Nye
@scoble but doesnt FF refresh automatically? whats the interval on the auto refresh? - Sebastian Keil
Even if you don't have an iPhone (I have a KU990), try fftogo.com. It works on most java enabled phone browsers and is a great way to fill in time when in lines - Johnny Worthington
Friendfeed defaults to showing not only the content of those who you are subscribed to, but items that were found interesting by your friends by other people. This is called 'Friend of a Friend' - If you would rather not see these entries, click 'Hide' on one of them, then use 'See more options for hiding items like this' - there will be an option to hide items from Friends of your Friend. - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
Sebastian: FF does refresh automatically, but not fast enough for me. So I manually refresh it every few seconds. - Robert Scoble
Calley: I'm subscribed to a bunch of rooms (mostly cause people invite me in). They haven't become very useful to me yet, although I'm noticing a few are getting more active lately. You can see the ones I'm subscribed to by visiting my FF at http://friendfeed.com/scoblei... and clicking over on the right side. - Robert Scoble
FF is more than a aggrigator site, it's the true social. Just don't find links and publish photos, discuss them and share in the collective power of community. - Johnny Worthington
@Calley Nye (siliconcalley): You can make your own rooms if you want, or you can join others. Currently, its not immediately apparent where to find existing rooms, but there is a number of sites that have friendfeed room listings. You can also search google with something like: twitter site:friendfeed.com/rooms - I also recommend joining this room: http://friendfeed.com/rooms... - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
if Twitter was micro-blogging, would FF be classed as macro-blogging? - Johnny Worthington
@scobleizer Terrific overview/ welcome message regarding FriendFeed, is it possible to move this into it's own room? You are imparting some great information here, don't want to see it turn to vapor. - michael sean wright
I call FF "The Consolidator" .. - LPH™ and his dog P™
So basically you have to know the cool people to get invited to the dance. I like it... - Calley Nye
Welcome everyone! Robert pretty much summed it up beautifully. I bring a little Gizmodo-ness into a more Engadget-esque Friend Feed ;) I'm Mona, nice to meet you all! This link will take you to the bookmarklet, which enables sharing links, images, and videos. It goes right on your browser toolbar. Extremely useful :) : http://friendfeed.com/share... - Mona Nomura
Confused? Ask questions. Very few of us bite. Welcome. - Chris Baskind
This script allows to tweak FF refresh rate. The minimum is every 2 minutes. http://bit.ly/35Eyvs - Nir Ben Yona
Here's a place to discuss Best Practice and Ethics as it relates to FriendFeed- http://friendfeed.com/rooms... - michael sean wright
Use the recommend and subscribe to as many people as you want. The more people you subscribe then the greater the diversity of conversations. - LPH™ and his dog P™
OMG, i didn't know there's a Scoble script allowing FF users to add Scobleizer in a tab on FriendFeed. http://bit.ly/dRo2L - Nir Ben Yona
There's a script for everything... - Calley Nye
A big +1 for Mona's link to the bookmarklet, that's a really sticky way of getting involved with FF - share stuff, then share again, then share some more! - Iain Baker
The reason I'm actually using FriendFeed right now (besides because Twitter is down) is that I was researching for a post. A really cool tool called Moopz - just posted http://www.techcrunch.com/2008... - Calley Nye
Whoa please don't tell me this conversation ended because Twitter went back up. LOL - Calley Nye
...I think it was because you said you're only using FF since Twitter is down ;) -but on a serious note, after a certain number of comments the post no longer gets 'bumped' so I don't think people are aware there are new comments added on the thread - Mona Nomura
Robert, have you tried this? http://flickr.com/photos... Better features for Twitter. (not by Twitter) - Orli Yakuel
Excellent tutorial! - Mitchell Tsai
It's not Twitter or FF. Things like Twitter Bar feed into FF so it's all good :0) - Glenna
sage brennan
not to kick twitter while it's down, but does anyone still believe them when they cry "maintenance?"
We should get the last remaining twitterati to FF! - Fons Tuinstra
I hardly go there. Just as easy to tweet and receive in here with much more. - Mark Forman
Not that much... - Jean-François Amadei from twhirl
I know how to make a FF comment into a twitter "reply," but does anyone smarter than me know how to make a NEW FF post show up in Twitter? - sage brennan
Think there is something called twitfeed? Never used but you might google it. - Mark Forman

the app store is like the gift that keeps on giving.
The app store is the reason to get the 3G iPhone! - Joe Dawson
I take it then that I'm not the only one with pages and pages of apps :-) - Duncan Riley
no Duncan, you're not. - MG Siegler
Haven't checked out the app store yet. not sure I will bother before 3G iPhone comes to China. Too depressing. - sage brennan
@duncanriley How much have you guys spent on Applications? - Joe Dawson
I have 3 or 4 pages of apps, only one I bought was a sudoku app. - Matt Harwood
I have barely ventured into the app store, save Facebook, AIM and NY Times. I'm waiting for someone to post a "must have" list. This sudoku app, for instance... - Carla Thompson
Carla: to be honest, the sudoku app I bought is a bit rough. In other words, many puzzles cannot actually, logically, be completed. There's many to choose from though! - Matt Harwood
Christine Lu
@jowyang wait, so FF comes pre-packaged with friends? that's kind of lame isn't it? sorry, am i missing something as usual? *sigh*
That's not lame at all. What IS lame is social networking software that doesn't have any friends at all. I'll blog about this. Actually, I spoke about this back in April, long before I was a default in FriendFeed: http://thenextweb.org/2008... - Robert Scoble
I was coming from the angle that social media software is just that. Software. It's the people who use it that should take initiative to build their own friends right? Something about folks at FF deciding to plug in default friends sounds a bit weird to me. Then again, i'm a fashionably late adopter. heh. Look forward to the post Robert. - Christine Lu
I gave a talk in Amsterdam that showed how bad these things are when you don't have any friends. I'm not saying that FriendFeed solved it the right way, but when I joined FriendFeed it was nice to have a bunch of people there being recommended to me to subscribe to. - Robert Scoble
At least we all didn't get Tom as our default first friend when we signed up. - Trish R
Robert, i get what you mean. But perhaps the next step to this should be a default set of friends based on various interests or sectors and not limited to social media or tech? It took me time to gather up a list of folks of interest to me (China and food. heh) so yea, that'd be cool if there were default lists by interests. That would be cool in helping these apps scale I think. Ok, where's Guy. Looks like Alltop needs to come up with a FriendFeederati by sector. heh. - Christine Lu
Christine: I TOTALLY agree. - Robert Scoble
Yeah I'm not so sure about this default friend thing, although Robert, you clearly have a bias considering you are one of the defaults ;) - Nick O'Neill
Nick: you're right, but I gave the talk way before I was one of the defaults, so I've been pretty consistent on this. Here's the talk I gave back in April, long before I was a default in FriendFeed: http://thenextweb.org/2008... - Robert Scoble
I agree with having the FriendFeederati by sector idea too. I don't think it's a bad thing to give suggestions. As I just shared, I find it odd when people use social networking software and say they only add people they already know. Doesn't social networking partly neccessitate meeting new people? - jjprojects
I actually don't believe in "default" people, though I really share that idea of "interests". I humbly still think that the more you share interests with someone the more he/she should be recommended to you :) - directeur from NoiseRiver
Yeah I don't think suggestions are bad, just having the same ones doesn't make sense. Also with having all the defaults as techies, doesn't that kind of drive the conversation on FriendFeed around a specific topic (technology)? - Nick O'Neill
Not lame at all. By having a few uber-users I can subscribe to as I sign-up, I immediately see the benefit of FF. I don't have to go rummaging around trying to find Scoble, or Riley or Arrington or Gray or anyone else to see what the service might be like if I work really hard at following people. a) I actually want to follow them (and so do you, admit it), b) I'll add others anyway. Why is it lame to make it easier to create social connections and leverage shared information? - AJ Kohn
Long story short, FF took the writers approach. Show, don't tell. How many times have you heard someone say, 'Oh, you'll get Twitter when you follow enough people.' Seems to me FF took that to heart and figured out how to make that happen a whole lot faster. And by using 'high node' users, the friend of friend product brings diversity to your feed quickly, even more so if you wind up subscribing to some of those friends. - AJ Kohn
AJ Kohn, no i get it. Maybe my initial reaction of lameness was directed more towards the uber-users being of one sector. Would be nice to have social media adopted faster by non-tech folks. No offense against the sector. But again, it took me 3 months on Twitter to help aggregate all the folks interested in China together. Would be nice if there was a jumping off point for other sectors. I'm pretty sure Guy is working on it now as we speak judging from his reply to my earlier tweet. Yay. :) - Christine Lu
Christine Lu: I get the sector thing. It is highly tech focused. But ... again, the friend of friend feature does a lot to defray that don't you think? And if you subscribe to a few of those friends you can quickly build diversity. I think of it more as 'high node' people, those with many connections - influencers. They can deliver diversity at a higher rate, thus they are the defaults. It's not perfect which is why I'm trying to get some authors/writers to join - an under-represented crowd IMO. - AJ Kohn
Christine: All of us in China are eagerly anticipating your efforts to get us all corralled and organized and properly introduced on FF the way you did on twitter! ;-) - sage brennan
Seriously, though, this FriendFeed environment feels like an ocean full of screaming plankton, without apparent order or guidance. Somebody please figure this out for me. The "uber users" approach was helpful at the start, months ago, but it's easy to get 'stuck' at that beginning stage. - sage brennan
Screaming plankton! I love it! - John Biesnecker
Screaming plankton! Kaiser Kuo's next rock group. Heh. Sage...bugged Guy about needing a FFerati list on Alltop. working on the China FF aggregation. :) - Christine Lu
Guy Kawasaki is my hero. Alltop's got a Frienderati list! http://blog.guykawasaki.com/2008... - Christine Lu
oops, that was to blog post. here's the direct link. http://frienderati.alltop.com/ - Christine Lu
I agree with Christine here. Social software certainly depends on friends and get better the more frinds you add, but starting with some people who I might not even know is kind of lame. - David Jacobs from feedalizr
If I'm dreaming, it would be nice if there were an option to create a friend starter-pack based on location/interests/occupation or even what services you add to FriendFeed. I feel that kind of functionality would be great on Twitter and other places, too. - Omar Gallaga
Guy K's Frienderati FF list is great. Been meaning to tell you. Well done - Screaming Plankton FTW! www.frienderati.alltop.com - sage brennan

I have forgotten once again my linkedin password, the cookie is disabled and I'm not going to retrieve it again. Just not worth the trouble
If you're not job shopping LinkedIn big waste of time IMHO. - Mark Forman
Same exact thing that happened to me. I just gave up on it. No point. - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
hmm interesting.. i have been able to make some good connections, for myself AND for others.. and ALL my last contracts came in through LinkedIn - Marcel Ekkel
LinkedIn takes up far less time than other SNS, but probably has returned more value (to me) than other SNS. I only check on LinkedIn once a month or so, but usually come up with a useful new connection. - sage brennan

this is my 1001st tweet.
How can you tell, when Twitter is busted again? ;-) - sage brennan

nice...we did the same thing with Vennie and Elvis. full on photo studio cheese - Sam Flemming
this photo shoot was for some magazine from something called "Dook University," which is supposedly not far from Carolina. I remain unconvinced. - sage brennan

I get FriendFeed now, a single location to have a conversation around my media/web participation - friend me: http://friendfeed.com/kevinro...
Good to see you joining the rest of civilization now! - Damien Franco
I added you... welcome aboard - Todd Loren Sinclair
Welcome all, thanks for adding me. - Kevin Rose
Are we going to see another FF addict soon? - Winston Teo
Some of the a-listers keep saying FF is the death of twitter - but they seem to work well together. I'll keep playing with both. - Mike
Welcome on board, Mr Digger! - SurajLuke
Added you on FF days ago. Welcome aboard! :) - Mike Abundo
Added you a while back, welcome to the conversation. - maxim shevertalov
I can't figure out how to get my comments to post to Twitter... How'd you do it? - Jeff Kopp
Dugg! Whoops - wrong web site. :) - Mike Doeff
Glad to be following you :D - Chris
I think you'll find though that FF is just to cluttered to be useful... - Auburn Elite
i am STILL trying to "get it" - djp
Welcome to the... torrent, for lack of a better word :) - Robyn Miller
Hey Robyn! - Kyle Lacy
I added you two weeks ago. Guys and Gals - use the hide button to reduce the info overload. - Russellreno
yea I am trying to figure out how to make my friend feed posts go out to twitter - Jason Stephens
Jason: why? post to twitter and bring them in. - Kevin L
klecu: because then I have to leave friendfeed, I want to do everything in here...when I share I want it to go out to all my services too.... - Jason Stephens
exactly my point...I think it could be a twitter replacement though...i like posting to hear better then posting on twitter. I'd like the messages I share on here to go out to my twitter followers to help grow my subscriber list - Jason Stephens
So is it Ping.fm that does that (posts to Twitter) then, not FriendFeed? - Jeff Kopp
The method to comment and reply is much better on friendfeed, I think this definitly should either be bought by twitter or find a way to cross integrate them better. I see the option to "also send this comment as an @reply twitter from jpstephens" but thats not EXACTLY what I mean - Jason Stephens
Jason: I totally agree, if you can post out to all your socials then someone tell me how. If not, then FF should have the option or I smell yet another social network for social networks. ;) - Mark
You could try Mahalo share to post to a lot of your socials at once, but wouldn't this create a bit of a spam effect to FF if all of those socials are showing up here? Interested to hear comments from anyone with that experience, because of course you don't want to spam your FF friends, but not everyone is using FF... conundrum - Dave Earley
Glad you got it Kevin. Friendfeed lends it self to more engaging conversation and sharing. - Larry Kless
Problem is, you have to Friend back. :) - l0ckergn0me
Did Scoble block you for begging for followers? - Ryan Kuder
yeah there's real potential. but it's so damn hard to manage your friend list! same as with twitter - this is a huge barrier to the usability of the site. there should be a subscribe/unsubscribe button next to every post from anybody. - Mickipedia
ditto l0ckergn0me - MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Friendfeed is awesome Kev. Everything at your fingertips. - Vipin Chamakkala
This is a common refrain - people admitting that it takes them months to get FriendFeed. And for those of us who aren't honest enough to publicly admit this, it takes us months to use FriendFeed effectively. Is there a way to reduce this learning curve, so people can productively use FriendFeed from day 1? - Ontario Emperor from fftogo
There are all sorts of things they could do to improve FriendFeed. I guess we have to remember it is version 1.0 - Jonathan Beckett
haha me too - today. - gfox
There goes the freinderhood. - sage brennan
@Kevin, so u lost love 4 twitter too :) - Arjun
Twitter should be relegated to what it was originally intended and is good at. It's a status forum, not a communication forum. - ·[▪_▪]·
I got it and got blamed for saying it. - Franklin Naval
You don't get it Kevin unless you're willing to friend us back. I believe same goes for Twitter. Why add you to our community if you're not willing to listen to us? - Jesse Stay
So the question now is: Will Kevin friend us back? All of us? Or selective friending? - Winston Teo
Oh boy. Now he's hooked on the FF crack. Duck and cover FFrs - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
FFDugg it:) - Igor Poltavskiy
congrats - saee:Dsharif
First you have to unban me from Digg! - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
welcome! - Chris Abad
Yea, welcome on Board Dude ;) Good to see you here ... - Martin Gommel
FriendFeed's concept does take a bit to grasp at first because we are sooo used to Twitter (uni-directional, broadcast communications tool) and FF is truly a multi-directional comm tool designed to illicit conversation around cool stuff you share via FF directly or thru nearly 50 Social Media "feeds" you can port over here. I love FF and have been super happy since I joined back in March! ;o). Glad you're here and having fun!! - Susan Beebe
I still don't get it. There seems to just be too much noise. I get crap from people I don't know and I'm not following. Every item that hits my feed and has any comments takes up stupid amounts of space so it's hard to scan through. Twitter is just light weight and simple, and in that way it's more effective. If you could have a 1 or 2 line summary for each item then it'd be great, but as it is it's cluttered and overpowering, and I only have 6 follows, I can't imagine what it's like with 100s - Mark Benson from twhirl
About time you showed up. Now I can remove your twitter's entry in my Imaginary Friend. Real handy feature to track non-adopters. - klaatu
I've explored every nook and cranny of Friendfeed now, grasped the interface and culture, and I am fairly certain that in its current incarnation it will catch on with only a very small percentage of Internet users. I have a fairly good track record in spotting major trends in Internet technology, and I don't think this is one. The main problem: way, way, way too much noise and... more... - Sean McBride
I like FF because you can have more conversations. I think the look/feel of FF needs some work though. Not enough easy ways to search and sort through. - Geoff Peterson

...foodie love is a turkey sub with extra jalapenos. - http://identi.ca/notice/42803
foodie love is a mile high new york style corned beef sandwich with hot and sweet deli mustard on rye with a sliced kosher dill on the side, and some cole slaw on the other side, and an ice cold cream soda. - Harry Myhre
omg, i just gained 5LBs reading that. and now i'm hungry again. - Christine Lu
LOL - Harry Myhre
swap turkey with chicken, and I'll agree with you. I always loves me a healthy dose of Jalapenos :-) - Duncan Riley
Might have to find somebody to make me a Reuben for lunch today! - sage brennan
though I love turkey sandwiches, I have to go with chicken pad thai from my favorite place in brooklyn :) - gregory
we should set up a 'foodie love' room - LOL - Harry Myhre
damn. i should've taken a picture of said turky sub with jalapenos but i ate it too fast. usually take pix of my food. heh. http://flickr.com/photos... - Christine Lu
@Christine Lu nice collection of food shots, did you eat that whole cupcake tower? - gregory
passed that cupcake tower while walking around old town pasadena. lucky for my waistline that day, refrained from jumping into it and inhaling a few of them. heh. - Christine Lu
i'm growing jalapenos in the back yard... can't wait - Paul Rj Muller
hey that's cool. pictures? never seen a jalapeno plant before. always assume they incubated in cans and jars on supermarket shelves. heh. - Christine Lu

Just made the worst coffee I've ever had...cheap instant. Tastes like eating your own bile. (But if bile had caffeine in it, I so would) ;)
My friends who roast and grind their own coffee beans are horrified that I not only drink instant but will buy and drink coffee out of one of those old-style coffee vending machines. Ahh, life without taste buds is grand. - David Muir
Nescafe Gold all the way. - Stan Schroeder
hah.. interestingly enough, i had to do the same thing morning.. - Chris Pallé
it's quite hard to get good fresh brewed coffee in China, execpt at starbucks, so it's instant w/ instant milk, or green tea. - clarke thomas
+1 for Stan can't be any simpler than Nescafe, yes I'm lazy - Dobromir Hadzhiev
And unfortunately, milk and sugar don't make bad coffee better. - Liz
I don't know I make some pretty shitty coffee myself. I don't even want to tell you what it tastes like. :-) - Dave Winer
I use nescafe espresso as the last last backup resort, and it is edurable with sugar and milk. other than that instant always tastes ugly. not even for caffeine. - Nicole Simon
"burp"... Senseo. - sage brennan
Sandy, hmmm yes Nescafe kills children, but do they eat what they kill? - Morgan Warstler
Lousy coffee is still better than no coffee! Mmmmmm, caffiene ... - Robert Couture
ugh. Tea please. - Barry de la Rosa
@Barry de la Rosa eew. Blech tea just doesn't do it for me ... - Robert Couture from twhirl
I don't understand the instant coffee thing. Is it like hamburger, only for coffee? Is it actual ground-up coffee beans with floor sweepings? What? I can't drink it myself, but I salute your... stalwart-ness (or something)! - Lisa Creech Bledsoe from twhirl

Forget my position at the very bottom of the top 250; the important thing is that I myself have subscribed to 553 people. And FriendFeed still wants me to subscribe to more. - http://friendfeed.com/e...
(continuing thought) And FriendFeed still wants me to subscribe to more people. I suspect that if this were another microblogging service, at some point it would say, "OK, that's enough. Don't subscribe to any more." - Ontario Emperor
I subscribed to you because you were #250... Don't feel bad about it, most of us don't even have a #250, we have to admire yours. - sage brennan
Actually, I did seem to get more subscription requests than usual yesterday and today, probably from people thinking "Forget the A-listers! I'm going to the bottom of the list!" Because of the arbitrary cut-off point, that was me in this case. :) - Ontario Emperor
Then again, I subscribed to Wes Justice after he commented about being in the top 75,000. http://friendfeed.com/wesjust... - Ontario Emperor
Wes Justice's comment, by the way, was attached to something that Louis Gray posted. http://friendfeed.com/e... - Ontario Emperor
OE - I subscribed to you because you are a cool dude. Plus you blog about Roller Derby and start LastFMFeed rooms. http://friendfeed.com/rooms... - Russellreno
Thanks, OE! I'll hit the top 60K in no time. :) - Wes Justice
And I'm now subscribing to 554. FriendFeed wants me to subscribe to more. FriendFeed is a ravenous beast. - Ontario Emperor
