I just can't believe that for the last two days I've been laughing like a lunatic at an upside down panda and this is what Anna has been busy with. o.O

Hey, Anna, I thought you said you weren't gonna post any more photos of yourself. ;)

Bragging rights. It's an asinine waste of time but at least some Linux nerds out there can pretend that they 'pwned' Apple. Whoo whoo ring a damn bell or something.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I'd like to rig an iPod Touch with Linux + Android and turn it into a VOIP device by leveraging bluetooth and WiFi to make free calls. Apple would never allow the apps that I want to develop for the device.

Why *wouldn't* you put Linux on a computer. Linux puts you in control. In Apple's world, phone call on you.

stupid idea. linux on iphone is so stupid. iphone os 2.2 is far more advanced than linux

cool username Carlton...ring a damn bell.

(sorry, that was really mean of me...but i couldn't resist...esp. since i don't understand what your twitter account has to do with this thread)

why the hell would someone even do that. Stupidest idea ever!! I stand by that all the way

hey dave "actual"... you voting for obama?

Wow. What a leader. It really makes McCain look like a damn clown.

@Edmundo - quit whinging away about subprime and read about the real culprit, Credit Default Swaps.
- Dave Hodson
@Edmundo: CRA institutions were not the culprit in the subprime crisis. Plenty of factual information out there, chock full of statistics to support that too. The loosening of lending was a factor, but only in so far that 'other' institutions sought to exploit those new rules and others sought to limit oversight.

Oh yes... one's McJob is to pay off one's baby dad's hookers tab. One wouldn't mind so much if one got a bit of royal saber without having to get royally ripped of one's tits. A queen's gots to get paid

Not sure she would like that as our Queen is German!

@Dave: Very true. In fact, the German Kaiser was Queen Victoria's eldest Grandson.

i showed this to someone on another social network earlier - and their response was: "uh, this is quite common. When I worked at Hardee's, we had old people on staff specifically for morning shifts so they could chat with"

Thanks again everyone, 'pretty damn psyched!

It just goes to show you that hard work and perseverance pays off. You guys really did it the right way. Hopefully I won't have to get a damn PS3 to see the show. ;)

That is quite an accomplishment Andrew. Its inspirational to here your struggles and successes over the last few years. 7 figures is nothing to balk

at in this economy. Now I suppose you can affoard a 6 fugure idea man on your team. hahaj.k.

Thanks for the detailed post on this Andrew, and especially for outlining how you explored options with traditional entertainment co's and hired CAA as reps... Those are avenues I've considered with an entertainment news property I'm developing (nothing like Rocketboom) and it's encouraging to see that strategy pay off. It's also pretty awesome to see someone benefit from the hard work and creative drive connected to a passion for a project rather than an industry. Congrats and best wishes for the future!
- Stacy Bond
Congrats Andrew, you were a pioneer long before anyone else. Looking forward to seeing what else you do with Rocketboom.
- Robert Scoble
Congratulations, Andrew! - You've totally earned it.
- Julie Perry
Kudos Andrew. Does this mean Rocketboom will include rootkits now? :P Make the most of it!

Jason Mraz Raves About His Raw Foods Diet, Rocks The Speedo // Archives // ecorazzi.com :: the latest in green gossip - http://www.ecorazzi.com/2008...
"On what’s in his fridge: “Super Greens, Hemp Protein, Goji Juice, Coconut Water, Flax Seed Oil, My own homemade cashew milk, Raw Cacao, Bee pollen, sometimes a banana, a little crushed ice, toad knuckles, agave nectar, Stevia, and/or Natural Vaginal Juices to sweeten to your liking. All this stuff is checked at the airport in what I like to call my “Movable Feast,” a handy box that puts the kit in kitchen. I update the staples when I need to, about every two weeks. But the salad fixins are refreshed daily.”"

Hmm, I think I found the source in the article " Plus, hot girls fresh from yoga hang out in natural food stores. And I suspect they’re horny." I wonder if he has a newsletter I could subscribe to?

Shey, I don't agree. I find that many people aren't even aware of social media and are missing out. Also social media and real life interactions are not mutually exclusive.
- Alan Le
@Alan I think the point Shey's making is that some people in the "Social Media World" (I call them "Tech-Nerds" .. :D) are so engrossed in Social Media that they become ignorant of the REAL Social World -- becoming hopelessly ignorant of the REAL ramifications of their actions.
- Jasmin Smith
Re. Soc Media vs RW - You learn best by doing imho? Observation only takes one so far.
- Mathew A. Koeneker
@Matthew I think the happy ending is "doing", i.e. a change in how we behave with and relate to one another. But if you don't take a step back and look outside your little bubble -- you get a pretty narrow-minded view.

I can't figure it out, are they real?
- Josue Salazar
LOL yes, they are! The picture on the right is him photographing the nudibranches. David Doubilet is (imo) one of the greatest underwater photographers EVER
- Mona Nomura
Wow, that's amazing. (ps yeah, now i can tell that's a guy. earlier it totally looked like one of those robot dogs or something)
- Josue Salazar
I'm highly considering scanning my issue. The prints are SO amazing! ...now that you mention it, I think I wouldn't have known it was a man either lol
- Mona Nomura
This is it exactly: "I think that Loren is angry. I think he's an angry guy. He didn't start out being angry at blacks, but he is now based on the response he's gotten. He also seems to have a racist fan base in there, and he feeds off that as well." Very calm and thoughtful interview.
- Mark Trapp
Hank, you've just found yourself a fan. Level headed, reasonable, informative analysis + I just subscribed to whydoeseverythingsuck.com.
- Duncan Riley
Hank does a great job, not just on his personal site, but on the Silicon Alley Insider. Glad to see Cyndy and Duncan recognize it as well.
- Louis Gray
Of all of the people I've met in NYC over the last year, Hank ranks right up there in the top few. I always enjoy our conversations. Note that before Hank went to SAI, he used to contribute on CN - so like Roi, Kristen and others, CN makes them then they go sign the big money deals elsewhere :-P (I am hoping Matthew doesnt leave!)
- Allen Stern
Hank's last response puzzles me greatly - Feldman himself comes from a minority who has a rich history of pain and suffering.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Mark, that was my edit. Hank did say that would have been the only other group that would have the same type of discriminatory history. To me, that makes this whole thing all the more curious.
- Cyndy
@rizzn: I like the "his little corner" bit. If that's not a certain modicum of arrigance, I'm not an evil squid-demon-thing, and believe me, I know arrogance. The real issue is that no matter the group Loren decided to use to mock the tech-crowd he'd be branded a racist or sexist. Unless you're telling folks that white people and mainstream culture are bad, you're a racist, a sexist,...

- Alexander Williams
from NoiseRiver
Why is it such a shocker that when someone sets out to stereotype and mock a group of people it's treated with offense? Negativity breeds negativity. You're not highlighting some core issue when you set out to be an asshole to a group: you're just being an asshole. You're not funny, you're not clever: you're a prick. The fact that Loren won't realize this and exacerbates the issue by making these videos makes him a racist prick.
- Mark Trapp
@itafroma: Or it just means that he doesn't think he's being a prick, there are people that find him funny, and he's not, actually, being an asshole. Being short psychic powers this week, I find it impossible to say, but I do find it possible to say that offending people is not inherently bad. Nor is being offended, though it doesn't actually earn any of my respect. That Loren keeps...

"The Icare motorcycle concept is a cross between something from Tron and "a kind of Porsche or Aston Martin for the two-wheeled world," according to France-based Enzyme Design, the minds behind the concept. It's intended to have a six-cylinder 1.8 liter Honda engine, which is more than what you'd find in some compact cars. Will it ever go into production? No word, but Enyzme's earlier L'atomo concept did, so future bikers will have some hope."

I've gotta say, i think a big part of the reason why scoble loves friendfeed so much is (and this isn't a bad thing) that he can get feedback on literally everything he does online. Which is awesome, but its easy to see why he loves it that little bit more than the rest of us.
I agree with you partially. He does have a bigger network than anyone else, but his loyal audience wasn't built overnight. His hard work and forward thinking gained my respect. He also GIVES feedback a lot more than he asks for it.
- Hao Chen
@Hao - i'm completely with you there. This isn't meant to be a criticism of him or what he does. He's awesome at giving feedback & a lot more. I guess I just wanted for him & others to see why I reckon he's unbelievably passionate about it, whereas others really like it.
- Zee.
nah, I can actually get feedback faster on Twitter. FF is much more organized for everyone else.
- Robert Scoble
It has been, to me, the single most valuable web resource I've ever seen. It has completely changed the way that I operate.
- Bradley McSpinn
you may get it faster there, but you can't really get the quality of feedback there as you do here. But surely Robert, you must see that web-celebs such as yourself benefit probably the most out of something like friendfeed no?
- Zee.
I had an idea that might be the case, Robert. I figured that bringing the conversations to FF was your way of sharing the love :)
- Bec Rowe @d0tski
Plus the added benefit of not having to go to someone else's page to see what exactly is being talked about.
- David Cook
Zee I see thousands of conversations happening here. I only benefit from a few of them.
- Robert Scoble
It's also more manageable. Twitter lacks threads. FF is a great conduit, and you can always hit the me tab and see the responses.
- Duncan Riley
I think it says something that my FriendFeed experience is dominated by what Scoble does. His network is so large that virtually anything he does ends up on my radar. Again: it's because he has worked hard to build a loyal audience - but I also think that its a feedback loop.
- David Cohn
David: I am the social media fungus. :-)
- Robert Scoble
@David, yeah again like I mentioned above to Hao - i'm not saying that Robert is using Friendfeed to continue building a fanbase etc.. I'm just saying that I think because of the already (and well deserved) network he has - friendfeed is perfect to keep them all in in the loop. Hence, why I think he probably gets more enjoyment & productivity out of this that the majority of us on friendfeed. And heck, i love this place - but I think Scoble & other highflyers probably do a little more...
- Zee.
imabonehead, we are the social media fungi. ;]
- Hao Chen
Zee: most A-listers hate FF. I get a lot of pushback from quite a few other A listers.
- Robert Scoble
@Robert if you mean, "pushback" as in they resist...then I reckon that's because a they just don't "get it" yet. I've gotta say, i'm surprised you disagree with all this - it makes for a great discussion, but I'm surprised.
- Zee.
Robert, what are the major complaints from them from using FF?
- imabonehead
Zee: truth is I don't disagree. Was just trying to have a conversation and discover my own thoughts on this.
- Robert Scoble
ima: they want the page views to support their business models. Me? I don't care. I just want to go the place the best conversation is happening.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, awesome. And don't get me wrong, i see the benefit for the little guy too. I mean, a mention from you on a space/platform like this - brings in potentially hundreds if not thousands of new followers and because of the way FF is - the new followers aren't just following microblogging post (like twitter) but also every other facet of a friendfeed users web life.
- Zee.
And that place is here no doubt (and Plurk, but we wont get into that now... :) )
- Zee.
Robert, I wouldn't call yourself a "fungus" when you get as many positive responses as you do. Maybe more like a "psychedelic mushroom". =)
- David Cook
One thing's for sure, Scoble talks and socialises wiith everyone. He doesn't care if you are an A-lister or Z-lister, which makes it easy for anyone to get onto this Social bandwagon. That's why he's most folks' Web Idol! And by following him, you get a great stream of resources from his networks.
- Winston Teo
What all of you said... He's definitely one of my top web idols. I get excited when I've said something interesting enough to draw a comment or like. He's really built up his credibility, imo. From what I can tell, he's always honest, always more generous than he has to be with his time/energy/expertise and he seems to forge real relationships with the people he interacts with professionally. That's enough for me to be a loyal subscriber. And that's all I've got to say about that. :-)
- Lisa L. Seifert
I think part of the problem is that when situations like this come up, the worst sort of "defenders" come out of the wood-works. Once they get involved, even if there was a reasonable context, things get really out of control.
- Steve Spalding
Norilsk, a major city in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, and the northernmost city in Siberia, was founded in the 1930s as a settlement for the Norilsk mining-metallurgic complex, sitting near the largest nickel-copper-palladium deposits on Earth. Mining and smelting of nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum and palladium are the major industries. The smelting is directly responsible for severe pollution, generally acid rain and smog. By some estimates, 1 percent of the entire global emissions of sulfur dioxide comes from this one city. Heavy metal pollution near Norilsk is so severe that it is now economically feasible to mine the soil, which has been polluted so severely that it has economic grades of platinum and palladium. The image was acquired July 21, 2000 by ASTER on NASA's Terra satellite.
