Actually, as far as I can tell, Like in FB does do something: it's basically an empty comment, so you get notified of new comments that occur after you Like it.
- Glen, Bespectacled Elder
@Glen: it's true but what bothers me most is that unlike friendfeed, fb delivers a separate mail for every person that comments on that post. #lame

I wonder what the engineering decision was to not use a WSGI interface.
- mikepk
mikepk: it supports WSGI, but it is not WSGI by default because WSGI does not support non-blocking I/O for things like hanging connections. See http://www.tornadoweb.org/documen....
- Bret Taylor
This actually is a very good piece of code! Thanks folks!

cool, Bret, thanks :) I was just heading through the docs now.

Thanks for doing this, Bret! That's some pretty cool stuff.

I'm hacking my own python web framework at the moment, so now the choice on whether I want to switch gears to this or not. I'm liking what I see so far.

Nice new title Brett.."Facebook Director of Products".. a good sign of things to come!
- Chris Myles
very very glad to hear this bit: "Tornado is a core piece of infrastructure that powers FriendFeed's real-time functionality, which we plan to actively maintain."
- Chris Heath
A very good project!...you know if will be possibile to use Tornado with other technogies except Python (such as JEE, Ruby On Rails, etc.)?
- Nicola Junior Vitto
Cristo: we tried to use the official Python coding conventions, though we may have inadvertently strayed. Those conventions are: ClassNames, method_names, variable_names
- Bret Taylor
Brilliant! I hope you can provide very valuable input for the next round of #python WSGI, which desperately needs a next round ;)
- Uche Ogbuji
thx Mike, but this is a kind of eventmachine (that sounds good) for Ruby, not a Tornado client or wrapper...isn't it?
- Nicola Junior Vitto
Excellent! Thank you. Was eagerly waiting for the day to come after looking this just 1 month ago; "changeset: 5afb8a445cad / date: 2009-08-11 16:34:48 / description: Initial open source packages" http://changelog.friendfeed.com/2009...

@bret just out of curiosity - what would necessitate usage of such an engine for a *personal* project? :)
- Michael Bravo
Michael: it is a nice framework to use for any project in my opinion (though I am clearly biased). If you are doing anything real-time like the chat demo, something like Tornado is certainly necessary/useful regardless of the size of the project.
- Bret Taylor

@bret and for little-sized hardware? should have try it on Maemo based :)))

@silpol I kinda fail to see Maemo devices being used for servers (unless it's some kind of satellite-based or other covert server maybe :) )

@mbravo you never know... there are some unusual (and cool) apps for web servers, granted you abstain (on purpose) from classical models, e.g.server farm somewhere there and herds of clients connecting to it...
- A.T.
Bret: Cool, thanks. Just out of curiosity, which flavour of Linux is preferred by FriendFeed?
- Diego Barros
I think this is the best answer for the ultimate question: "Does python needs yet another web framework?" While most of us would say why, when one come across this, a real world proven technology, serving zillions of pages a day, one would say, well, why not. actually, why not even take it an try to integrate out next web app with it? great job! seems like joining FB won't do you any harm ;-)

My proudest shopping moment was being in an Ann Summers (high street sexy underwear and toys shop) and messing around in the dildo section. You know the ones that are little bullets with a chord attached to a control wand? Well, a friend of mine and myself were fiddling with them, getting them to vibrate across the table when I turned to the sales lady and asked "have you guys ever raced these?". She proceeded to turn bright red and stammered out "it had never occurred to me". Busted!

Oh I've done a few of those as well :), but these all came from an old "Things to do in Walmart when you're bored" list that has been circulating the internet for years. Exact verbiage and everything. :)

It's hard to verify any of our hypotheses since FriendFeed uses nonsequential identifiers for everything. Can't really deconstruct the uuid to see what number it is.

FriendFeed 181202413 to Facebook. Some here claim this was a 195944173, but I am not among them. I think it is great, and will help bring this technology to a whole new 1554098974 level.

Temptress! Lately I've been desperately wanting to go build something like this... living in the Amazon would make it even cooler! Now how am I supposed to go to work? :) [edit: oh, Amazon is the name of the company. Hawaii is probably the best location anyway]
- Lo
Oh yeah...A Hawaii treehouse over looking a beach would be so cool! :-)
- Live4Emma (L4S)
from iPhone
The name escapes me, but in a documentary about unusual housing they profiled a woman who lives in a treehouse in Hawaii. It's in a forest, not on a beach. The awesome part is that a nearby waterfall was used to provide running water. It was larger than those pictured here, too. I've been jealous ever since...
- Lo
The Hawaiian tree house I mentioned can be seen in the 2001 documentary Home Movie (http://www.imdb.com/title... it is available on Netflix). Its resident is a former TV star who really loves trees. The doc also profiles four other unconventional homes. Anyone really interested in unusual/sustainable housing should also google Earthships, if you've not heard of them before.

"John Doe, who changed his name from Jang Do when he was still fuzzy on American vernacular, has no regrets." - NYTimes.com - http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009...
"After he came to America from Korea more than three decades ago, Jang Do wanted what many immigrants have always wanted: to fit in. So he decided to Americanize his name. But at age 11, still fuzzy on the vernacular, he took an interesting tack. First he turned “Jang” into “John.” Then, he talked his family into adding an “e” to their last name. He was concerned, he said, about razzing and wanted to make sure it would be pronounced like the “do” in “tae kwan do” and not the “do” in “hairdo.” He has been John Doe ever since."
- Bret Taylor

"Airport security grills him every time he flies. “I have to sit in the office,” he said. “Every time.” Landlords and election inspectors view him quizzically, and prospective dates need more than a little assurance that he’s not hiding a dark past. “I say my name is John Doe and they say, ‘No, what’s your real name?’ and I pull out my ID,” he said."

I've read about a guy who had custom license plate NV and was fighting lots of parking tickets he received in mail for strangers' illegally parked cars. Don't remember why he liked NV — probably that was his initials. Turned out cops write NV in their reports when the "number is not visible".

FriendFeed has been almost completely blocked in Iran as far as we can tell. We have a large number of very active Iranian users, and we noticed a steep decline in activity yesterday. Graph below.
این نمودار نشاندهنده افت فرندفید به دلیل بسته شدن آن در ایران است
- Mycaptain
Bret: Is this based on IP numbers located in Iran, or actual activity from those users? If it's IP based, it'd be interesting to see the activity on a user basis and see if they've been able to route around the blocking.
- Ken Sheppardson
If Twitter were blocked and FriendFeed weren't, I'd expect an uptick in FriendFeed activity, not a 92% drop.
- Kevin Fox
I.e. given all the users who've previously accessed the site from an Iran IP number, how many have been active from different numbers in the past 2 days.
- Ken Sheppardson
Instead of "liking" this, shouldn't we have an "unlike" button?
- Steven Melfi
:( Bret: According to Stephen fry, these are the iran proxies: 218.128.112.18:8080 218.206.94.132:808 218.253.65.99:808 219.50.16.70:8080 . Can you track these IPs?
- Roberto Bonini
I knew this day was coming. Too bad.
- Robert Scoble
Steven - same feeling here. I always feel weird "liking" bad stories on FF
- Mike Bracco
How does traffic from China look? Or North Korea?
- τorƍue

I wonder what the international community can do about stuff like this. Eventually the "bad guys" will lose.
- Michiel Sikkes
Hopefully, we'll never see a graph like this for Turkey...
- Onur Şentüre
that's because the government has blocked access to friendfeed, twitter, facebook, youtube and ... after election and after protests in Iran cities !
- Farshad
Man... :( That's really a corrupt government. Hope it gets better soon.
- Peter
Kheyzaran mentioned over the weekend that both Twitter and FF were blocked for Iran starting I believe on Friday. He is using a proxy when possible to keep us updated
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Bret, any analysis about how many people unable to access FF directly are still able to access it via proxy?
- Daniel Dulitz
Daniel: Well, we are still getting a bunch of Farsi comments and posts. They may be Persians from outside Iran or from Iranians using proxies. We don't have a detailed analysis breaking those down at this point.
- Bret Taylor
Watching the "guerrilla cyberwarfare" aspect of the elections and reactions has been fascinating. Iran's universities are obviously full of resourceful, passionate geeks.
- John Craft
this is really bad. i hope there's some resolution to this. the people or iran have shown a lot of strength and courage to protest the illegitimacy of recent events. i don't think this will stop things
- Cee Bee
Is it possible that the same folks from Iran that are active on Friendfeed are the ones out protesting?
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
please help us , we are under attack ,change friendfeed logo if you can
- فرزاد

- Farshad
I'm completely for having a fair vote, but I'm not sure that I'd want to try and align FriendFeed with a particular candidate, which is what a green logo would imply.
- Kevin Fox
Many iranians using proxies to access FF. and therefore their IPs changes to fake IP .

MohammadReza: Maryam's mom is still able to call her relatives and friends in Tehran, so they are keeping some voice traffic open, if not all.

- EricaJoy

If Iran thinks they have nothing to fear, then why block Friendfeed?
- Frode Stenstrøm
Frode: because the government is like China: they believe that by retarding the flow of information they will reduce the threat of protests and governmental overthrow.
- Robert Scoble
Very reminiscent of the prelude to the fall of the Shah
- Alan Morris
I don't speak Persian, so I don't know all the searches, but there are still (luckily) a lot of Persian users posting: http://friendfeed.com/search.... If you are Persian and looking for updates, try our search engine to find the few users who still have access.
- Bret Taylor
Frode: and in Iran's case, they are run by conservative religious authorities and they don't like the fact that they are not in control of information flow like they used to be. They like to think they can still control information sources and, since they can't, they try to block places where their citizens can go to share information.
- Robert Scoble
is it a joke? iranian users seems the %90 of friend feed. it could not be real!
- Fırat DEMİREL
Firat: There are no units on the vertical axis of the chart.
- Ken Sheppardson
Firat: This is a chart of traffic from Iran, not of FF's total traffic.
- Kevin Fox
Firat, i doubt that this graph is a percentage graph... probably more likely that it's measuring hits, sessions, or total data transfered (mb, kb, etc)
- Chris Heath
Kevin: what impact did this have on FF's overall traffic?
- Robert Scoble
Robert: Iran is the #6 country for FriendFeed in terms of page views per day.
- Bret Taylor
Thanks all for answers. i told that it could not be real.. :) excuse me, i ve just read Bret's notice and looked at breaking point. i saw what i've missed before.. bad news for ff and iran.. :(
- Fırat DEMİREL
These statistics are incredible, especially the normally heavy useage of FF in Iran.
- Curt Mercadante
Bret Taylor, we can tag our pix and vids about iran election by an english keyword such as 'iran' or 'iranelection'. I think it will help to ff non-persian users to find out more about unrests in iran.

Iran restored cell phone service Sunday that had been down in the capital since Saturday. But Iranians still could not send text messages from their mobile phones, and the government increased its Internet filtering in an apparent attempt to undercut opposition voices. Social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter were also not working.
- Üstün Üzüm
martin: those words are not mine actually from a news article from washinton post.
- Üstün Üzüm
On twitter people are retweeting the IPs and ports of unblocked proxies, can we do something like that here?
- Canageek
martin, i'm from iran. twitter is blocked. what evidence you wanna? screenshot!?
- آدمیرال
yes Canageek. we use proxies for tweeting
- آدمیرال
Authorities blocking the internet are just reinforcing solidarity between people, can't they understand ?
- Stanislas Jourdan
Stanislas: not to mention they encourage their smartest and richest people to leave (the ones who have technical skills). There's a reason why Silicon Valley has 10,000 or more Iranians living here. Their government sucks and the people are getting tired of it. Of course if their government was great I would never have met my wife (who grew up in Tehran). So, there is good to come out of a crappy government! :-)
- Robert Scoble
it has always seemed to me that the iranian user base is ENORMOUS here. wow. unbelievable.
- edythe
It is interesting how much civil unrest that is brewing across the globe towards their governments. The knee jerk reactions in attempting to block certain websites shows how much they didn't expect the net to become such a widespread conduit for cutting through the bs and informing those that wish to know. I wish those who take a stand all the best.
- alphaxion
Another way for those that are in Iran is to access through Netvibes (but I don't know if it works or if it's blocked too), adding Friendfeed, Gmail and so on such as modules
- Roberto
Thanks for sharing this, Bret. It's valuable evidence of what's going on, evidence which wouldn't have been available even a few years ago.
- Michael Nielsen
Very interesting...so much for democracy and voting rights in Iran...
- freedom fighter mom
If anybody in Iran feels up to it, can you temporarily disable your proxy and run a traceroute to friendfeed.com and twitter.com then post the results here?
- EricaJoy
Bret and Paul, can you let us know if the traffic comes back, which would tell us they've unblocked FriendFeed?
- Robert Scoble
Robert: absolutely, we will let everyone know when it comes back up
- Bret Taylor

Come to think of it, does FF have a presence in China? I'd imagine it's blocked there. I've seen Chinese on here, but never sure if that's from China or speakers outside.

Yes, Friendfeed is blocked in Iran. Right now the papers and TV channels here are controlled by the government and our access to satellite channels is blocked too. Friendfeed and Twitter are quite vital for us now. Our main source of exchanging information and news is Friendfeed. Via Friendfeed we let everyone know that where people need help and where to go and how to help them and...
- Selma
Nope, they have blocked all https addresses, we have had to sign in to Friendfeed via anti-filters for the past few months.

its a shame. it was one the main media we used to inform ppl. thats why they filtered it. now many users cant sign in

I just spoke with my friend Andres, the main BBC correspondent for the Middle East/Afghanistan, and he mentioned the web is being fire walled in Iran much the same as the the "Great Firewall" during last year's Olympics in China.
- sofarsoShawn
The Iranian websites that people used to exchange information about the election protests in Iran are under cyber-attacks by the government forces and from anonymous sources. Many of them are down right now. These Iranian websites were our few last remaining channels to inform people. What can we do about that? Is there anyone out there who can help us with this?
- emin
i was 53rd active user in friendfeed until this filtering. now i can open FF with proxies and if i can fine. a Vpn but many Vpn here come from companies that have relations with security services, i thunk they allow us to bypass filternig and then, they will arrest who has wrote against their goals
- خیزران kheyzaran
Can't we transfer the data/databases of the sites you, iranian guys, use to any new domain we could buy? I want to help. Not by throwing rocks to "security service" forces, but, at least, by making possible for what YOU have to say to go public, worldwide.

On July 20th we all gathered in a large open conference room at the Lab, as we had for previous flights to listen and follow the progress of the flight. M.I.T. personnel actively supported each flight, 24 hours a day, by stationing expert engineers on-line linked to NASA's Manned Space Center (now JSC) in Houston. We waited with anticipation, pride and apprehensiveness as the LEM began its descent toward the lunar surface. As the vehicle approached the target, one of the astronauts, Buzz Aldrin I believe, announced that the on-board computer just displayed a "1202 alarm".

The Orion theme is sweet, although the centering of the image makes it so that the most dynamic parts of it are hidden behind the actual feed. Maybe make the feed area background semi-transparent?
- Brian Chang
wow, this second batch of themes kicks ass
- chrisofspades
Kevin mentioned it to me the other day, but I don't remember now where he said he found it. When he is around again I'm sure he'll chime in.

Didn't know there were new themes.....have to check them out....like the looks of Grasslands.

The NASA Orion pic is a mosaic of several Hubble pictures. I found it via this blog post: http://www.bittbox.com/resourc... and got the actual source from Wikimedia from this page: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki... I could tell you how to spot the artifacts that show this to be a mosaic, but if I did, you'd always notice them and you would be sad.

So Kevin, be honest... Have you inserted a Triforce into any of your themes?

I mighthave if I'd found out about it before Phillipp broke the story, but he did it right after we launched!

Cool. Thanks Kevin for the background on the Orion pic.

I'm sorry, but if your "Name" here on FriendFeed is JUST a very common first-name such as Brian or Michael or Anne, there's no way I'm going to be able to keep track of you when you comment. (Sure, I could move my cursor to the hyperlink to see your username, but I'm too lazy for that.) There are now hundreds of "Brians." Please use your last name!
I sometimes feel bad if I'm talking about Sparky, cause I know if he comments no one knows its him I'm talking about, but they don't know if I say Brian either, so I guess it doesn't matter and its all up to him!
- Rachel Lea Fox
But there are a lot of Stephen Macks in the U.S.
- Stephen Mack
I think I'm the only one on FriendFeed so far, though.
- Stephen Mack
The same accounts for me, but then for my very own Ton Zijp (although there is a physiotherapist somewhere here in Holland with the same name, who's doing some sensual massaging too; I want to be clear about this: that's not me!)
- Ton Zijp
Is Ton a common name in The Netherlands? How about Zijp? I like the sound of your name, but then again I think Dutch is a supremely beautiful language.
- Stephen Mack
Yeah, Ton is quite common. I believe it's one of the most popular ones for naming a boy at this moment. Wasn't like that for ages, so there are few of my age. Zijp is pretty uncommon. I guess (!) there are roundabout 2.000 - 3.000 people sharing that name. & Thx for the compliment. I'll tell the Queen. ;-)
- Ton Zijp
I guess the trick is to not be ordinary.........lol
- Kevin J Hatton
I'm awake! Yeah, the "You" thing was fun. :-) And I didn't think "Brian Johns" was a very commmon name until the last year or two.
- Brian Johns
But Sparky (by which I mean Brian Johns), at least you're using your last name. The issue I'm having are with the people who are just "Brian" or "John" or "Michael" or "Anne" with no last name (and sometimes no picture either). When they comment I can't tell them apart. On some threads there are up to three different "Brian [no last name]" people talking.
- Stephen Mack
Yay for non-common name (And even less-common spellings)!
- Neal Krummell
I have yet to see another Colette on FF...or anywhere, really.
- Colette
One of my friends often goes by "The Other Martin Taylor" when online. I find it amusing.
- Rachel Lea Fox
Shevonne, you're totally safe. (My original post talks about "very common first names" and yours is very distinctive!)
- Stephen Mack
John, yah, use your mob name or use John Dendroica or John Mob Name.
- Stephen Mack
Stephen, then I'll just add in my last intial. There can't be THAT many Colette J.'s And if that fails, then, it's on to the full surname.
- Colette
Stephen, this thread cracked me up... but it gives my hubby, Brian "sparky" Johns more justification as to why we should name our future children "Laureth' and "Ethylene". I don't want my children named after chemical compounds. Perhaps a dictionary of uncommon names should be put into mass circulation and within a few decades, names like "Brian" will become less and less frequent, thus causing less confusion on FF.
- Erin "Wifey" Johns
Luckily my name is uncommon, in the U.S. at least. Though I don't know how it shows up on here.
- Dario Gomez
Dario, you show up as "Dario Gomez"
- Stephen Mack
Stephen Mack, you may already know of it (apologies if so), but having a mini avatar in front of each comment really changes the recognition game (Firefox / Safari compatible user script) http://friendfeed.com/friendf... :)
- Micah Wittman
Hm-m-m good point.....maybe I should take my "mob" name back....
- Bonnie Foster
Thanks Stephen. Strangely, with that last name, chance are if another Dario did show up on friend feed, they'd also have the same last name.
- Dario Gomez
I'm not too worried. I'm pretty sure you know who I am.
- Cristo
Heh, I'm directeur. and I am the only one :)
- directeur
that's why I just use my username as my display name. although, it is weird when ppl address me as 'chrisofspades'. chris is just fine.
- chrisofspades
I think I'm the only Zulema on FriendFeed but not at work :)
- Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕
from iPhone
I bet more people would chance it if it showed your name instead of "you" after comments.

According to howmanyofme.com there are 188 people in the U.S. named Mark Nielsen. This is why I keep my username unique. It also helps me Google myself, knowing that when I type "manielse" those 14,100 results are 99% me so I can monitor my Personal Brand easier.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
I'll start. A duck walks into a pharmacy and asks for some chapstick. The pharmacist is surprised, and asks, "How are you going to pay for this?" The duck shrugs and says, "Oh, just put it on my bill."
- Stephen Mack
"Doctor, doctor, my wife thinks she's a duck." "You better bring her in to see me straight away." "I can't do that - she's already flown south for the winter."
- Rachel Lea Fox
So this guy walks into the doctor's office with this big white duck on his head. The doctor looks up and says, "Yes, sir, can I help you?" And the duck says, "Yeah, can you get this guy off my butt?"
- Bryan Zirkel
What do you call a joke told by a duck? A wisequack.
- Stephen Mack
Three women die together in an accident and go to Heaven. When they get there, St Peter says, "We only have one rule here in Heaven: don't step on the ducks." They enter Heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one. Along comes St Peter...

- Bryan Zirkel
Hey Bryan, those are good. But tell me, do you know why when ducks fly in a V, one side of the V is longer than the other?
- Stephen Mack
Because there are more ducks on that side.
- Stephen Mack
Three statisticians went duck hunting. A duck flew out and the first statistician took a shot, but his shot went a foot too high. The second statistician took her shot, but it went a foot too low. The third statistician said, "We got it."
- Stephen Mack
Rob, I guess you could say you're just ducky?
- Stephen Mack
A Rabbi walks in to a bar with a duck on his shoulder. The bartender looks up and says, "That's kinda cool! Where'd you get him?" The duck responds, "In Brooklyn. There's thousands of them."
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
"Researchers at the University of Sussex have discovered that cats use a "soliciting purr" to overpower their owners and garner attention and food. Unlike regular purring, this sound incorporates a "cry", with a similar frequency to a human baby's. The team said cats have "tapped into" a human bias - producing a sound that humans find very difficult to ignore."
- MikeAmundsen

I've known my cat can do this for ages. I wouldn't mind so much but it doesn't matter how I call or talk to him when I want something; he'll still just bloody ignore me.
- Mark H
That's the purr my roommates' cats use when they want something - to be put down, more food, more attention. If they want more attention, it is 100% successful. If they want down, it only results in more cuddles.
- Jennifer Dittrich
@Mark: it was once explained to me (by an experienced veterinarian ) that cats will always to exactly what you ask of them - as long as it suits them, too<g>.

Today, Google engineers announced a technology called PubSubHubbub that makes RSS/Atom more real-time, and they deployed the technology on FeedBurner. FriendFeed also added support for the technology, so if you have a FeedBurner feed, your updates should show up in FriendFeed within seconds rather than minutes after the feed updates.
To enable it for your FeedBurner feed: go to Feedburner, click on the "Publicize" tab, and then click on "PingShot" and enable the PingShot service. That will enable PubSubHubbub and send your feed to a number of ping services.
- Bret Taylor
Once step closer to being able to build an open distributed twitter like system!
- Edwin Khodabakchian
this has been done already by superfeedr.com - google's behind the game on this one, but def takes it mainstream.
- Scott Magdalein
I don't understand. Updates won't appear on Feedburner in realtime, so what's the point?
- Peter
Peter: most blogging platforms ping Feedburner when you post a new entry, Feedburner pulls down the feed, Feedburner then pings the hub, then the hub notifies FriendFeed :)
- Benjamin Golub
Thanks Benjamin. Alas, my feeds are not that sophisticated.
- Peter
We're still working out kinks so if you have any issues please send me a message!
- Brett Slatkin
You lost me at "Today" I shall now just smile and nod politely
- Steve C
If I understand correctly this essentially turns any site with a feedburner feed into a real time publisher? But to read it in real time you need what?
- BryanSchuetz
Since this is a Google thingie, does it work on Google Reader already?
- Tarmo Aidantausta
FriendFeed can receive the pings *RIGHT NOW*
- Brett Slatkin
guys, how long are we really talking before it should appear here? Seconds or minutes?
- Zee.
The Reader integration is a prototype; more to come soon!
- Brett Slatkin
no way, so Google Reader could technically go real time??
- Zee.
is that SUP's role take up by those rss accelerator? or SUP is losing a chance to propagate in this field?
- huixing
Huixing: we plan to support all widely adopted real-time standards to make FriendFeed better. We are not tied to SUP only.
- Bret Taylor
from iPhone
Brett, why didn't you use the weblogs.com ping protocol? Your comment there about RSS, right up front, really captures the whole philosophy -- right? Let's just reinvent stuff that already works, so... Why? To break everything that already works? It won't happen that way. It'll only make your adoption curve steeper.
- Dave Winer
Is this working for anyone else? Anyone getting near real time publishing to Friendfeed with feedburner?
- Zee.
from iPhone
Would you ping me (dave dot winer at gmail dot com) when I can use RSS with this system. I'll be happy to evaluate it and provide feedback if necessary, and endorse it if it works. Thanks in advance.
- Dave Winer
Alright we've fixed in the spec Dave. Sorry for the mistake. Followed up.
- Brett Slatkin
I had enabled from way before, let's see if the post I'm about to publish works. I'll DM you Zee if it does!
- Jorge Escobar
can someone please let me know if they've managed to get this working?
- Zee.
There's also a WP plugin I wrote that does the same thing. This might be a good option for anyone who's not using feedburner. http://wordpress.org/extend...
- Josh Fraser
Zee, I set this up for my Empoprise-BI blog, wrote a blog post (using Blogger), and six minutes after posting I haven't seen anything in Google Reader or FriendFeed yet. So if you're not getting advertised response, you're not the only one. I'll test again at a later time.
- John E. Bredehoft
cool...just want to be sure it isn't me alone
- Zee.
Update - seven minutes after posting, the post showed up on FriendFeed (both in my feed, and in a group that receives the blog feed). Nothing in Google Reader yet.
- John E. Bredehoft
John: The Reader integration we demo'ed was a prototype; more to come in the future!
- Brett Slatkin
yeah, it seems 7 minutes is about how long its taking me for too (to arrive in friendfeed)
- Zee.
Could you DM me the feed URL? I'll look into the details and figure out the issue. Like I said before, we're still working out a few kinks (the FeedBurner integration is initial support right now). So thanks in advance for your help in making it super fast!
- Brett Slatkin
If you're looking for another implementation of PubSubHubbub, I'd suggest you give a look to our http://superfeedr.com ;) Thanks for your time and feedback!
- Julien
Heh, what's the idea behind the crazy name? ;)
- Tyson Key
does self hosted wordpress natively ping feedburner?
- Tyler Gillies
Nice to see XMPP more and more used on the web! It's a nice environment, also for cloud computing!
- Egon Willighagen
Nice tech, strange name though. Wonder if Google has a projectname generator, feeds it some foundation words, and then watches it spew out 1,835391 suggestions in 20-sized chunks? Too bad they didn't pick up PubSubBuzz instead, rhymes better. Also, what was EVER WRONG with PubSubHubris? (fresh and full of promise).
- ianf ⌘
This tech has been around for ages. It's getting much needed promotion right now, but it's not new. The name comes from XMPP's pubsub mechanism, with hubbub on the end. The option for PingShot has also been in Feedburner for months.
- Marlin Forbes
I think that unless you have installed the pubsubhubbub plugin for wordpress, that feedburner still polls your content. It pushes your content out to other interested parties using the new mechanism, but it will still poll your feed. Correct?
- Marlin Forbes
