Sarah Lane
I'm tentatively declaring Daft Punk's "Alive" as the best live album ever recorded. Can you top me? Be honest. This thing is a work of art.
alice in chain's unplugged album tops my list. :) - Joshua Schnell
Yeah, gonna have to go with Alice in Chains' Unplugged, myself. - Otto
Hmm...Nirvana Unplugged is just audio bliss! - Carlton Hackett
Jimi Hendrix and The Band of Gypsies live at the Fillmore East would blow that away. - Joe

So would the White Stripes "Under Blackpool Lights" - Joe
and Led Zeppelin live at the BBC. - Joe
In other words - not even close. - Joe
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense. Does that count? - Peter Kambasis
Janes Addiction's xxx album. Too. and if Stop making sense does not, their 1977 album would. - Joe
I could probably rattle off 35 more that would be better than that. - Joe

Sorry, but are you serious? Daft Punk has very good stagecraft based on the YT videos I've seen, but isn't their music programed? I mean do they play live synth or just tweak the mix on their Macs? - Adrian
+1 Adrian. - Joe
James Brown live at the Apollo. - Joe
Stereolab live in Munich. - Joe
Manu Chao and Radio Bembe sound system live in Argentina. - Joe
Actually, I could probably name over a hundred better live albums, you get the picture. - Joe
So far there's three votes for Alice in Chains. Can I declare them the winner? - Joshua Schnell
Alice in Chains over Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin? ROFL - Joe
I'm a big fan of the Jay-Z Unplugged album, but then he was backed by The Roots. I have a pretty bad ass Stevie Wonder live album and an Aretha live album that'll sharpen your knives, too. - Derrick
Derrick which Aretha live album? The Fillmore one w/ Ray Charles is off the hook. - Joe
She does "Spirit in the Dark" w/ Ray and they just blow the roof off. - Joe

Bad Brains Live at CBGB 1982 - Adrian
Living Colour - Josh Haley
Radiohead Kid A - Neal Jansons
sheesh J.Deakins - instead of answering her question all you did was prove how to get blocked as a spammer. And to answer her question, Daft Punk is good but I would have to put Led Zepplin's BBC concert at the top of that list. - bear (aka Mike Taylor)
Well bear any time you want to "spam" me with good music suggestions - spam away man. :) - Joe
I actually prefer Homework, listening to it from the first track to the last. - Ryan Shepherd
Neal- there's a live Kid A album? News to me. (one of the best studio albums for sure) - Sarah Lane
How can Daft Punk "Alive" be the greatest LIVE album ever? it's all samples and loops! Aside from a few tweaks, their just playing back their own record. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate what Daft Punk does, but I think you're missing the whole concept of live albums. You should really take the time to listen to more live albums before making such a bold statement. - alanoakes
Wow, Alan...condescending much? - Neal Jansons
+1 Alan. - Joe
This thread looks like it had potential at the start... then it looks like it got hijacked or something. - Gus
Yeah I know it is a bitch when people talk about and suggest good music, I am shaking my head right now. - Joe
Alanoakes, I have listened to a lot of live albums, and I'm usually not a huge fan. I'm entitled to my own opinion, right? I also said tentative. - Sarah Lane
Also, J.Deakins? What the heck. - Sarah Lane
I thought it KISS "Alive"... - Simon Hicks
Best album ever, Saturday Morning: Cartoons' Greatest Hits - Eric Carter
Every one is entitled to their own opinion Sarah as your public pronouncement of that being the best live album ever shows.... Listen to any of those suggestions I made - they all blow that album away. and you can always delete away if this thread has got too messy. Cheers. - Joe
I personally think that there are a lot of very cool suggestions here. :) - Joe
"Alive" is great. I love Burning Spear "Live in Paris" [reggae] - Steve de Mena
That's a good call in my opinion Sarah, although Peter Frampton's "Frampton Comes Alive!" has been argued the greatest live album also and I would agree it's also up there.. - Troy Adam Skillen
For me: Van Morrison - Live at the Grand Opera Belfast - Asgeir
Okay, so it's a dvd, but I vote for Van Halen: Live Without A Net - Mellissa
++ Mellissa. That is an excellent concert vid. Eddie's solo always gives me the goose bumps. - Josh Haley
How can you forget Queen - Live At Wembley Stadium? - alphaxion
