"Definitely a gray area. In this case, perhaps the fans were behaving true to the characters and in support of the "brand," but it could have just as easily been the opposite. With that in mind the brand has the right to maintain consistency of their image. IMHO, the mistake was in issuing a DMCA takedown. Perhaps It would have been better handled by AMC contacting the individual accounts, and offering to either take them over and continue "professionally" or arrange to moderate the fans activities with guidelines that ensured a presentation consistent with the show..." - Jeffrey Sass

"Social Media overload is perhaps a symptom of social media addiction. A year ago I started a humorous blog at www.socialnetworkingrehab.com to poke fun at Facebook and Twitter and our growing reliance on being connected to SocNets, but I as I write most posts I realize I am almost half-kidding -- truisms are often said in jest... As Robert said, "regular folk" just don't get it (and, perhaps never will...). When I interrupt my vacation "relaxing" to post pictures to TwitPic and videos to 12seconds and Qik, seeking notice from mostly strangers, my girlfriend may smile and chuckle but if I am honest I have to wonder if she is laughing with me or at me. Am I just being one of the "weird" folks Scoble is referring to? That said, I do enjoy it and have found real world benefits and real meaningful connections and friendships, both business and personal, so I guess I will continue being weird." - Jeffrey Sass

"It is odd and sad that Palm is routinely missing from these conversations. As an early fan of the Palm OS (switching to Palm devices from the awesome Psion Series3), I have owned just about every iteration of the Treo and currently live quite happily by my Sprint 755p (and satisfy my Apple envy with an iPod Touch). Long before the dawn of Portable Media Players and Smartphones there was this thing called the PDA. Palm owned the category, and had a large, vibrant and creative developer community. My guess is that there have been more than 30,000 applications written for the Palm OS since the introduction of the first Palm Pilot. That is why, when the Smartphone category emerged (at the time I was using the original Blackberry, which was a Pager not a phone) I opted for the Palm OS Treo (originally a Handspring device) so that I could continue to use the many portable applications I had grown fond of on my PDA. To this day my Treo is loaded with great apps, every bit as useful as your..." - Jeffrey Sass

I can't claim to know all the secrets (in fact, I think there's a treasure trove of knowledge out there that SOMEBODY's got to be holding back) but things that I try to keep top of mind are: a) you are the original role model b) consistency and fairness pay dividends in the long run c) you have to keep more people in your thoughts than just yourself d) try to remember that you were once that young and inexperienced, too and e) show your interest. - Mark Dykeman

Here's my advice - Be involved with them - 5 Years as cub scout master and den leader, 5 years coaching little league, 4 years managing and running travel baseball, 3 years coaching girls softball, attended every Volleyball game and tennis match (still attending college tennis matches) Getting home early enough to sit down to dinner every night and have some fun with them. With our work schedules it's not easy but it can be done. I saw many kids that never had Dad attend a game or scout event. Sad... - Kevin Shannon

"Good thoughts, and something that has really always been true in Consumer Media Consumption - convenience and immediacy trumps technical quality. It's why AM and FM radio took off (the convenience and immediacy of getting content whenever and wherever you could place/bring a radio). 8-track, then audio cassettes were another "lesser" quality but more immediate/convenient format. Television itself was originally substantially worse quality than what a projector could deliver, but infinitely more immediate and convenient. The MP3 format clearly wins due to convenience and immediacy, not quality. Even our old friend Twitter has thrived on the power of immediate and direct communication, where the consumer happily accepts 140 character, imperfectly written messages because their importance and impact is enhanced by the immediacy and easy access. In the end, it's the ease of connecting with the audience that makes the content resonate, not the quality of the recording or writing, and..." - Jeffrey Sass

I can't stand using my Nokia phones for Twittering, but this sounds like it's a pretty good app so I'll have to try it out. - Robert Scoble
@scoble In general, do you find yourself using your iPhone or your Nokia N95 more? I don't hear you comment about your iPhone much as of late. - James via Alert Thingy
Seems to work well on my Treo. A PLEASURE to finally get replies! Thanks for the tip! - Jeffrey Sass via twhirl
So I get that a robust Twitter app is nice, but what happened to using SMS or IM with Twitter on a cell phone? - J. Phil via Alert Thingy
Phil, slandr has all the twitter functionality so is much more useful that SMS on a phone. By all means text a quick tweet or reply but you can't do anything more involved. - Colin Walker
I just wish it had number shortcuts for Home, Replies etc. (press 0 for home, 1 for replies...) and there is no delete option that I can see. It's a bit fiddly on a touchscreen but everything is navigable by the Dpad or you can always get your stylus out!!! - Colin Walker
Colin - ok, I think I answered my own question -- for those of us who follow hundreds of twitter users, turning on SMS for them all isn't practical. So having a separate data app makes sense in that respect. - J. Phil via Alert Thingy
Aha! @roelandp has quick access via number keys on his to do list now :) - Colin Walker
Very nice, and a much needed mobile web app. Thanks! - Dan Nimtz
It's good. And it works under Opera Mini 4, which is very important, at least on my phone. - Morton Fox
Very nice. I was frustrated using the mobile version or Twitter on my Blackberry with Opera. This adds a lot of nice functionality. - Kevin Shannon
yep, love slandr :D - David Petar Novakovic via twhirl
gotta try this app out...later - thanks for sharing - Susan Beebe
gotta try it out too ;) - Olubi Ezra via twhirl
tried it out on a treo 755p, works half of the time, when it's working it's great - DDD via twhirl
gonna try it out, but i'm actually quite fond of m.twitter.com :\ - Chris Jones via twhirl
I like my TwitterBerry. Can't wait for a web page to load everytime I want to Tweet, plus writing in a browser's text field is a pain. Maybe it'll be useful for people who Tweet very less and interested mostly in viewing their friend's updates - Sachendra
I use my iPhone for Web and for maps and for stocks and all that. I use my iPhone to make calls and generally to receive them (although sometimes I use my Nokia too). But for making videos? I use my Nokia. Generally I'm happier with my iPhone than my Nokia. - Robert Scoble
This is really great! I use m.slandr.net as a panel in Opera (the desktop version, not mobile). So far I used m.twitter.com in the browser's sidebar, but this - naturally - is much better! Thanks! - Alexander Ebel
Cool! Have been waiting for one. I have been using Opera and Twitter's mobile page, but it was far, far from perfect. Going to try asap. - David Orban
I just tried it... it looks promising... - Fredrik Wennberg via twhirl
I just wish I could make the Opera panel reload automatically. Doesn't work. Any hints? Is it possible? - Alexander Ebel
I love it, one of the few mobile apps that works well on my Blackberry - Sally Church
have been using, but I don't like it because I have to be the one to 'update' it. Why can't there be an updating setting that I can set and forget it? - amarquart
Of course, I am old school with the Treo but Slandr is not a good app for that non iPhone. - Mathew A. Koeneker

I really don't see why anyone over 20 is interested in Facebook. - TranceMist
Anyone over 20 who has a job should be interested in the professional networks. Currently, it's more flexible than linkedin. The groups are also ok. With that said, I use it primarily for the private groups I'm a part of. - Bwana McCall
say what you want - In a period of 3 monhs I have connected with at least 20 odd people whom I had totally lost touch with for over a decade or so .... I am positive I would not have managed that without fb. - viki saigal
Managing messages is definitely a mess on FB. If you have your FB messages forwarded to an Outlook or Gmail address, at least you can leverage those platforms to search and manage the messages. Far from the answer, but a slight improvement... - Jeffrey Sass
Totally agree that changes need to be made to the way Facebook handles messages, I am lucky in the sense that I don't get many but seeing some of the inboxes I can understand how out of hand it must get! - Joe Dawson
IMHO FB should provide a professional page, and a personal page. The simple method of putting friends in different groups is juts not enough... - Jez Arnold
FB is still going down. When is the turn around Mark? - DC Crowley via Alert Thingy
