“Should we ask Disqus,Intense Debate&FriendFeed to support a new open source project for a plugin that unifies their services to 1 input box?” - http://friendfeed.com/e...
There is no way to remove/add a blog on Disqus without contacting support. You can redo the integration, but I don't think you remove the old one.
- cmiper
Ok. So do you mean that I now have to DISQUS systems for my tumblr site?
- Svartling
My drupal web-site often has fragmented disqus comments even with a slight URL change. For example.com/my-article Vs. example.com/node/142 will results in two different sets of comments. I imagine you will "lose" your current comments when browsing your blog with the new domain. Dan comfirms (http://twitter.com/danielh...) that it's fixed and the path_url is *better* in this upcoming version. ...waiting for
- Czar
Let me rephrase myself, my comment was a bit off. You can ADD a new blog, but not DELETE one without contacting them. In your case, your comments will work on the site, but if anyone views the Disqus page for your blog, they links will not get them to the custom domain page, but rather the old page. If the old page was on Tumblr itself Tumblr redirects to the new custom URL, but it's not as clean as it should be. I did what you've done and actually just set up a new blog and asked them to remove the old
- cmiper
@cmiper: Yes I understand now. I can see that my old comment points to the old URL, but It doesn't matter because It is forwared to the new domain. But as you said, it could be cleaner though...
- Svartling
@Czar DJ Peterman: Thanks for your comment and link. I have my old comments, but they points to the old URL. Forwarded to the new one.
- Svartling
Havent' read this yet and I will probably be asking this on Monday again (when potentially more people are around to give input and I've read the article), but has anyone used SezWho? How do you see it comparing with Disqus and Intense Debate? I'm really having trouble with this decision. I'm leaning toward Intense Debate at the moment.
- Justin Korn
I use Disqus, but I'm really interested in SezWho. I have an ID account, but I can't remember why because I don't recall where I commented that used it. I don't see it anywhere.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Rasheen, you might be seeing it on my blog soon :)
- Justin Korn
Why ID, Justin? I wish others would weigh in on this, though. Disqus is on a lot of blogs...but why? Is it for the same reason everybody is on Twitter? Just because everyone is on Twitter? :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Rasheen: That's my guess. The crowds follow the crowds. I even read that once Scoble and a few others gave their "seal of approval" Disqus spread like wild. I haven't seen anything GREAT about it yet (not to say I've seen anything GREAT about ID either). I'm still debating and trying to get a feel. I'll be reposting on Monday to see if I can get more traction on this conversation
- Justin Korn
One thing that concerns me is that it's been months and the API version of Disqus has not been updated. I don't get it. I was also leaning towards SezWho because of it's relation to Entrecard. Some see it as a bad thing, the opposite for me. Guess we shall see

“I am not happy how Disqus comments don't come in threaded like other FF comments... If all the integration FF did was make a pretty icon for their RSS feed then that is lame..” - http://friendfeed.com/e...
I am not happy how Disqus comments don't come in threaded like other FF comments... If all the integration FF did was make a pretty icon for their RSS feed then that is lame..
I wouldn't mind having those threaded
- Mark Forman
I am glad you guys agree. I was originally hoping to get some enthusiasm on this issue as we all spend so much time in FF it becomes really challenging to follow a discuss conversation. Also I am wondering should Disqus directly integrate FF comments on their end? They did it with Seesmic..
- Roger Kondrat
"Whether it's Techmeme or Digg or any other service that can bring a good amount of traffic, most bloggers like attention, from # of visitors, # of comments or what have you. But if getting traffic becomes more important than writing good content, there will be issues, and if you find yourself writing to get Dugg, or Stumbled, or on Techmeme, then you're off the beaten path. The best thing I'd recommend is just be yourself, and not worry too much about trying to get more attention, or wondering how algorithms work. Sometimes, a post you didn't think was great will get attention, and your masterpieces will die without comments. It happens to everyone."
- Louis Gray
"I don't think it's a secret, I just traded at the time based on the fact, the RIUMOR was not being taken very seriously. Today, it now does indeed seem like a rumor and that Job's and Apple are really trying to say so. If he's lying, he would be crazy because of all the time that has passed. I love this comment over at alleyinsider on the whole issue KenC said: Jul. 26, 9:16 PM Clearly you guys don't know a thing about cancer. At 5 years, one can be considered "cured". Steve is 4 years and 9 months from his original diagnosis. The further one gets, the less likely one has of recurrence. If 5 years is considered "cured", then 4 years and 9 months from diagnosis and 4 years from surgery is damn close. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that Steve most likely had his surgery at Stanford, remember he made his famous commencement speech at Stanford, a year after his surgery, and made his only public pronouncement about his cancer surgery there. It doesn't take a rocket scientist..."

"Thanks Sarah and Pai! Hate to be negative, ya know? But I'm truly embarrassed by all of this. Makes me want to steer people away from Twitter and social media in general."
- Christine Cavalier
"Congrats and welcome back, Ryan! You make some very good points. I too believe in Disqus and the team, I am definitely staying the course to see where Disqus goes."
- Phil G
"With humblest respect, I don't think your question is relevant. Whether I can or not is besides the point. The point is, that once you leave your alpha and beta stage and are taking big money hoping to be bought for big money than customers expectations change. That's just a fact. It's like the expectations of a child vs. an adult. Once you become an adult, you can't just turn the clock back when it's convenient. Either they are a real business or they aren't. I would suggest once you have 20 million dollars involved, you've graduated to being a real business and with that comes real customer expectation. Like it or not. Fair or not."

"great interview. damn daniel ha looks like he's old enough to be in college still. good for him. he is one smart cookie...a javascript ninja. and i agree, they absolutely should change their pronunciation as we all say discus as in the sport."
- sean808080
It's working really well on my blog so far. The only thing I don't like is having the "legacy" comments going on older entries, and Disqus on new ones. Clumsy. But overall I like it.
- Anthony Citrano
At the moment it seems to work quite well and it looks pretty. But I'm not sure about the javascript. That way the comments won't get indexed by search engines.

"Now that the formalities are out of the way, Friend Feed in my own words. Short version: I thought it was a cult. Long version: Ok, cult may be taking it a little too far. Everyone is friendly, intelligent, and I engage in tons of good conversation there."
- Louis Gray
from Bookmarklet
FriendFeed has become a very interesting and special community on the web. Cult? Not quite. FriendFeed is full of really great conversations that can span just about any topic from the serious to the funny and everything in between.
- Candace
If it is a cult I'm not getting treatment or leaving
- Cecil Sandus
This is Mona's secret, unannounced, blog.
- Louis Gray
I haven't spell checked or grammar checked yet!! =O Oh man, I'm so embarrassed...
- Mona Nomura
Louis is like lightning. I don't think I could keep up.
- Mathew A. Koeneker
I like FF..left Twitter to come over here.
- Scot Duke
congrats on your one-month anniversary, Mona...you've come a long way!
- Trent Olson
I can't even find it on Mona's feed to COMMENT on it. Louis Gray IS the Internet.
- Cyndy
FriendFeed is not a cult? So, I shaved the logo on the back of my head for nothing? *gets the hair clippers*
- Outsanity
Thank you so much, and thank you Louis.. wow
- Mona Nomura
nice post. you captured my sentiments as well. i've only been on FF for a little while, but i've appreciated making connections with many people so far and seem to find a lot of commonalities with many others. the positive thing is the breakdown of certain barriers, which may otherwise hamper certain connections in other net settings.
- Cee Bee
FF is seriously the only site I've ever participated in, where people can have discussions on 'hot topics' amicably. Robert (I believe it was) had a great post the other day about anonymity, and FF sometimes makes me think web anonymity is not a good thing...
- Mona Nomura
So I just went out for drinks with two psychiatrists and one med peds resident and I was trying to describe FF and it's culture. The consensus from the doctors around table was that it sounded like a cult. (c: My response was "yes, but a friendly cult" kind of like Casper the friendly ghost. It was quite fitting that this post was first when I logged in this evening. So very cult like I forwarded it over to them and tried to recruit them. (c:
- Tim Costantino
Great post, Mona. (and, just between us, it *is* a cult. ssshhhhh!)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
haha that was only my initial reaction ;) Thanks Rasheen.. and Tim. I struggle to explain FF to all my um 'real' friends LOL
- Mona Nomura
wait, we are allowed to have real friends here? why didn't i get the memo! >:(
- Hao Chen
There's a rumor that Louis will be releasing his 'check Friendfeed every 30 seconds and post comment while I'm sleeping' script soon
- Charlie Anzman
Mona, you realize your only option is to now get friends who are total dorks so they will understand this internet addiction.
- Candace
Yes this is one of the few sites/cults I've ever wanted to participate in.
- Mo Kargas
But I don't need friends.. I have FF! (and bacon)
- Mona Nomura
Im sure Louis has some Google alerts set for his name.. or for Friendfeed.
- Colby Olson
Wait, so Louis ISN'T the internet???? I demand PROOF
- Mona Nomura
Congrats on your milestone, Mona. :) and *rubs hands manically* Welcome to the club. BWAHAHAHA. ;)
- Fa La La La Lindsay
Oh man... what DID i get myself into??? ;)
- Mona Nomura
If you have Lindsay cackling maniacally then you're in pretty deep doodoo.
- Chrimmus Tad
O I have an idea. Do you and Lindsay anna adopt me? I cook and clean!
- Mona Nomura
One more month or so and a REAL photo of Mona will probably bring some decent $$ on EBay
- Charlie Anzman
Charlie LOL it's about content! ...but check my flickr and facebook LOL
- Mona Nomura
I've already tried many times to convince Lindsay to hire a cute female to come cook and clean. For some reason she's just not interested. :D
- Chrimmus Tad
@Mona, that offer sounds tempting since not enough cooking and cleaning gets done around here (partly because of FriendFeed), but we couldn't think of taking you away from your FF best content locating duties. You're at least a partial realization of my intelligent agent theory. Now if only FriendFeed could copy you into an AI, we'd be set. :)
- Fa La La La Lindsay
Aww - you're reducing Mona down to just her digital goodness. I'm sure her meatspace counterpart is useful as well. :P
- Chrimmus Tad
Is it too late to cast a vote for cult? I've always wanted to be in a cult.
- Robert Cooper
from twhirl
LOL @ content locating duties! Several people HAVE asked if I was really human or not, believe it or not. But imo, LG is the machine! Thank you for the kind words.. Robert: better than being emancipated from aliens 'donating' millions read: L.Ron Hubbard ;)
- Mona Nomura
I'm trying to think of something witty to say about cults... I got nothing.
- Alan Le
Alan, your existence is ALL sortsa win!!
- Mona Nomura
Great post - it captures all the importance of FF, but crucially, also stresses what this place can really be: a fun place to hang out. People overlook that sometimes.
- Iain Baker
Thank you Lain :) I like FFers more than my real life friends.. Scary!
- Mona Nomura
What I like the most about the post is how amazed a person can be that the most popular people here even have their own Wikipedia pages. It can be amazing how they all pretend to be just regular conversations participants unless you look at the number of followers :)
- Svetlana Gladkova
Props to the fact that it passed my eye exactly at that moment, sun rising before my work day... u,u -- Zu's tag for the day: FFRules, happy, tired
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
Mona is quite a sensation on FriendFeed! I enjoy her posts and am super happy she joined! I had quite a chuckle with her “is this a cult?” question the day it came out on FF…that was awesome! Ok, now she know it is NOT a cult, just a very cool social media app that is easy to get hooked on fast! Enjoy!
- Susan Beebe
Now I can say I knew Mona (for twenty minutes) before she hit the big time. Keep up the great work Mona
- Russellreno
It has come full circle and now the question must be asked: Is this the Cult of Mona? ;)
- Michael W. May
from twhirl
@Svetlana: I think that's exactly the reason why they are who they are ;) @Elijah: FF does RULE! Have a good day :) @Susan: FFA was my very first step. Recognizing my addiction. HA. Thank you for your words. @RR: Thank you.. but I am NOT big time. I'm just myself : ) mwm: Not at all1!!!!!! =(
- Mona Nomura
Excellent pretence that you are just a regular guy (if you don't pay attention to 15K people that listen to your updates)? To me it's a little terrifying :)
- Svetlana Gladkova
from twhirl
I confess, I subscribe to the FF Cult of Mona. Now where do I pick up my robe and black nikes? ;)
- Jericho
They ARE the internet. Robert Scoble is AMAZING! And Thomas Hawk takes time to answer photography questions, supports college kids trying to raise money for a new laptop (Yuvi and his analyzing software) Seriously, these people awe me everyday!! @Jericho: two words: bacon bra! ;)
- Mona Nomura
HA! Mona, almost snorted my coffee the wrong way when I googled it... you win! >:)
- Jericho
There have been a series of awesome skies here lately. Summer hasn't been too bad because we seem to be getting afternoon showers to keep things cool.
- Mark Forman
Lots of positive responses here and on twitter. 1) Has disqus increased the # of comments you get? 2) Are you worried about no long hosting your own comments?
- Amit Gupta
Directuer, this is part of urban warfare and survival tactics training. Maybe this kid got his hands /idea from the some army guy or he just did it for kicks :)-

Somehow, I'm reminded of this joke: What does a redneck say before he dies? "Hey y'all watch this!"

this is fantastic - long live This Guy so my pyro bend can continue vicariously through his efforts (realizing, of course, that he may already be dead)

Explanation: "In January 2007, people from Perth, Australia gathered on a local beach to watch a sky light up with delights near and far. Nearby, fireworks exploded as part of Australia Day celebrations. On the far right, lightning from a thunderstorm flashed in the distance. Near the image center, though, seen through clouds, was the most unusual sight of all: Comet McNaught. The...

Absolutely incredible shot! Then again some of the best shots on the web come from NASA, National Geographic, Discovery and, of course, Hawk :)
- Charlie Anzman
Not to be too cynical but that shot seems to good to be true -- I wonder if there is more processing going on than the text seems to admit.
- Brian Sullivan
I'm going to side with Brian here. What is right: Comet McNaught was that bright in WA (I use to live there), but I checked my attempted pics, they predate this by over a week. I'm sure the comet was only that bright for less than a week. Second, the main Australia Day fireworks occur in Perth City...which isn't near a beach . Maybe it's Leighton Beach with Fremantle to the left...but it doesn't seem right. I did check the weather records though, there was a storm that night, and it's in the right direction
- Duncan Riley
I do hope it is real though...and I forgot how wonderful the environment there is
- Duncan Riley
Duncan, last year both Fremantle and I believe Hillarys held their own fireworks for Australia Day. I myself was trying to guess the location this morning. Being a regular on Leighton beach though it doesn't look familiar so I was thinking it may have been taken to the north of Hillarys. It also made me very nostalgic for Perth :)
