"I did get the "too many redirects" problem you describe when my database import had failed to complete. So upping the timeout and filesize to make sure the local db copy it had the same number of tables as the live one after import fixed this. Is it possible that could be happening for you? As you say, I didn't change anything in the database. The idea of this approach was to avoid the need to change the stuff that WordPress hardcodes in there. Good luck with the tinkering - hope you get it sorted!"

"Hi Carlos, Sorry to hear this isn't proving straightforward. While my post may make it seem like it was for me, it took me weeks of reading and messing around to get it to work (though the main problem was with the WP database not fully importing and so the main/site1 not existing). What do you get if you go to "www.site.com" or "www.site.com/wp-admin"? Once you have the redirects setup, you don't need to use localhost anymore. The redirect tells your server & browser that the live address = localhost. Hoping it is as simple as that as otherwise I'm not sure I'll be able to help very much. Let me know how you get on."

"Hi Carlos. The Apache (and windows host) redirects mean that browser requests to "example.com" get sent instead to localhost (so example.com to ..xampp/htdocs/example-folder, example.com/es to ..xampp/htdocs/example-es-folder...). That means it all acts as if it is live, but is being served from local files and database, so won't affect your live site(s). However, the method used here isn't intended to allow synchronisation of local changes back to the live site. That wasn't something I needed - or at least, articles I read describing possible solutions seemed complicated enough to persuade me it wasn't worth the effort for me (e.g. http://wordpress.stackexchange.... I'm waiting on a "duplicator" plugin or similar solution before I these seems worthwhile in the context of what I'm doing. Since writing this post, I have seen the service below, but it costs $ and I haven't personally tried it. http://crowdfavorite.com/wordp..."
