"We watch a lot of films and web series here in the Screening Room, but since we’ll never manage to watch everything, every so often we try to reach into the community and find out what the filmmakers and creative types who produce all of this great content are watching."

Some of the local papers here used to have that layout and sometimes the LA Times will run op-eds like that. I think for a website, Hot Soup (or Pajama Media) was supposed to focus like that, but neither got it right. I think HS died upon impact and IIRC, PM shut down last year or the year before.

People really, really like their media biased. From an economic model perspective it's hard to succeed without it.
- Steve Spalding
You tweeted something else about 'trusted filters' and I thought that was interesting. Most major dailies will often have op-eds from well-known people who are supposed to represent a side. But these are professional pundits in most cases, they tend not to traffic in the reality we have to live in daily. So, there's a shut down on a discussion almost immediately depending on who is on the byline.
- Admiral Anika
Yup, it plays out exactly the same way on the net. The people most likely to voice their opinions are pundits/experts/gurus whatever. They are, by the nature of what they do, biased to some extent. That's fine and dandy but the people eating up what they're saying tend to ignore that fact and restate it as fact. It just seems like the world would be a better place if we could get stripped down viewpoints presented side-by-side.

"You know, the two guys who throw together a brilliant idea in some West Coast garage, stitch it up with $10 hosting and a few week’s later sit down to give interviews for their Wired cover story. The media runs these stories because let’s face it, they make great news, even if they are entirely fictional."

"If Mr Guttenberg had come up with the internet instead of movable type back in the late 15th century and for 400 years we had used the internet for news and all types of entertainment and all kinds of everything else and I came along one day and said I have got this wonderful idea"

"One of the greatest dangers for a storyteller is internal inconsistencies. People have a deeply seated sense for reality. You could have a world of Dwarves, Elves and Vampires, it doesn’t really matter as long as these supernatural creatures follow the rules you set out for them."

"Zombies are your enemy and during the Zombie Apocalypse you will be their dietary staple. If you don’t want to end up as one of the restless dead you should arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can about their habits and some common conventions used to describe them. Let’s review briefly and then I’ll throw you over to the Zombie Initiative to study up."

"On the web, people like me (and most likely you) have two tasks that drain our creative energy: building things and talking about them. That is to say, engineering cool new stuff and marketing it to our adoring fans. You can’t do both at the same time."

Only if you don't offer a final product significantly different than the "journey". The feedback offers a certain amount of insight, but I don't think it provides the real meat and potatoes.
- Steve Spalding
So, a portion of the project is done without feedback and another with?
- Jason Nunnelley
Whoa... That looks like no fun at all. Sorry.
- James (!?)
Thx for all the good vibes. Actually it was a pretty great day in total. Just hope there are no hiccups getting this fixed. Insurance discussions can be more annoying than the crunch!

Steve, I'll swear by the Ultras (HD and not) until I'm blue. After filming a thousand hours of video on both the Mino and Ultra, the Ultra is hands down the superior model. Just a "For what it's worth" note.
- Brandon Mendelson
I might look into that then, sounds great.
- Steve Spalding
I have an Ultra HD and love it so far.

I've had lunch with Gibson a couple of times. It's always mind-expanding. He is the most intelligent person I have ever spoken with. And a very nice man. Is this name-dropping?
- Gregg Scott
A bit. Ha. he's a fantastic writer he might do well with a reader for his books though.
- Steve Spalding
Nice Gregg, and yeah, it is ;p I've loved every little interview and speech he's given, but listening to him read Neuromancer is just painful. I'll read anything he writes, so long as I'm not forced to listen to that audiobook again. It's my favorite book, but still...

I think he could be very good with some direction and some production values. He'd probably be the first to concur with the gist of your assessment.
