9 Things Web Series Producers Should Know
"We watch a lot of films and web series here in the Screening Room, but since we’ll never manage to watch everything, every so often we try to reach into the community and find out what the filmmakers and creative types who produce all of this great content are watching." - Steve Spalding from Bookmarklet

I want a place where I can see opposing media talking points in two columns. It would make understanding underlying bias around current -
Some of the local papers here used to have that layout and sometimes the LA Times will run op-eds like that. I think for a website, Hot Soup (or Pajama Media) was supposed to focus like that, but neither got it right. I think HS died upon impact and IIRC, PM shut down last year or the year before. - Admiral Anika
People really, really like their media biased. From an economic model perspective it's hard to succeed without it. - Steve Spalding
You tweeted something else about 'trusted filters' and I thought that was interesting. Most major dailies will often have op-eds from well-known people who are supposed to represent a side. But these are professional pundits in most cases, they tend not to traffic in the reality we have to live in daily. So, there's a shut down on a discussion almost immediately depending on who is on the byline. - Admiral Anika
Yup, it plays out exactly the same way on the net. The people most likely to voice their opinions are pundits/experts/gurus whatever. They are, by the nature of what they do, biased to some extent. That's fine and dandy but the people eating up what they're saying tend to ignore that fact and restate it as fact. It just seems like the world would be a better place if we could get stripped down viewpoints presented side-by-side. - Steve Spalding

The Most Dangerous Myth of Entrepreneurship
"You know, the two guys who throw together a brilliant idea in some West Coast garage, stitch it up with $10 hosting and a few week’s later sit down to give interviews for their Wired cover story. The media runs these stories because let’s face it, they make great news, even if they are entirely fictional." - Steve Spalding from Bookmarklet

Warren Buffet on Newspapers
"If Mr Guttenberg had come up with the internet instead of movable type back in the late 15th century and for 400 years we had used the internet for news and all types of entertainment and all kinds of everything else and I came along one day and said I have got this wonderful idea" - Steve Spalding from Bookmarklet

"One of the greatest dangers for a storyteller is internal inconsistencies. People have a deeply seated sense for reality. Zombie Conventions and Myths
"Zombies are your enemy and during the Zombie Apocalypse you will be their dietary staple. If you don’t want to end up as one of the restless dead you should arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can about their habits and some common conventions used to describe them. Let’s review briefly and then I’ll throw you over to the Zombie Initiative to study up." - Steve Spalding from Bookmarklet

Writing online, then soliciting feedback creates a better product. But, does it lower its "value" since nobody need purchase?

My problem with most corporate "storytelling" efforts is that they remove all the color and richness from it. The stories are all one-way.
do any corporate "storytelling" efforts that do ring true to you come to mind? if so, please share those examples. @spspalding - .LAG liked that

@lealea I don't own the Ultra HD, but I own a Mino and it's absolutely fantastic. I use it at events, I hate lugging around hardware.
Steve, I'll swear by the Ultras (HD and not) until I'm blue. After filming a thousand hours of video on both the Mino and Ultra, the Ultra is hands down the superior model. Just a "For what it's worth" note. - Brandon Mendelson

Yea, Gibson is a little painful. - Steve Spalding
I've had lunch with Gibson a couple of times. It's always mind-expanding. He is the most intelligent person I have ever spoken with. And a very nice man. Is this name-dropping? - Gregg Scott
A bit. Ha. he's a fantastic writer he might do well with a reader for his books though. - Steve Spalding
Nice Gregg, and yeah, it is ;p I've loved every little interview and speech he's given, but listening to him read Neuromancer is just painful. I'll read anything he writes, so long as I'm not forced to listen to that audiobook again. It's my favorite book, but still... - xero
I think he could be very good with some direction and some production values. He'd probably be the first to concur with the gist of your assessment. - Gregg Scott
