Timo Hannay's announcement about the Nature Network blog post that was taken down over the weekend.

"Unfortunately I can’t provide a detailed account of our specific concerns in this case....." - "... I hope it goes some way towards clarifying our position." No not really.
- Andrew Lang
Thanks for sharing this, Maxine. Are they going to clarify to what extent they will stand behind their members or will it remain that anything could be taken down at any time with no clear guidance as to what is OK and what isn't?

Anyone who is interested in more, there are a couple of very good discussion threads on Nature Network about all this, including contributions from lawyers (Jack of Kent) and links to some useful newspaper articles. One discussion is at Stephen Curry's blog post about the takedown, and another is on the wideranging legal issues, in the Nature Opinion forum. All welcome to read and contribute.

@Maxine - Could you provide the link to 'Jack of Kent' and newspaper articles? I am interested to read more about it. Though, I like freedom of speech, do I seriously think that moderation is key for avoiding policy/compliance violations, especially for people in industry and any medical trustworthy services, see eg. http://scienceroll.com/2008... Though, I know that this might not be easy to achieve, a sender and receiver moderation (not only on receiver comments) could reduce many problems, especially if the sender is a legal entity http://www.slideshare.net/joergku...

Joerg, if you go to the link in this post ("A message to Nature Network users") they are all there, in the first "reply" to Timo's message. Best wishes, Maxine.
