"We will cure X in Y years." Seems a lot of the public has become disillusioned because we still haven't cured cancer or AIDs, or "made good" on stem cell research. This is related to "the only good science is that which directly benefits human health." We can't predict what will end up benefiting human health or lives down the line, but that is why we need to fund broadly and keep funding basic research. - Shirley Wu
Bill. genetics determine basic phenotype, phenotypes can be categorized and grouped - an ugly example of misuse of such categorizing is racism. That does not mean that our genetic variability cannot or should not be categorized.....Shirley. OK if I put your comment on the blog ? - Nils Reinton

OK, that more careful statement I can agree with. "Phenotype" is biological, "race" is social imo. Touchy subject. :-) - Bill Hooker
