New Yorkers: the coolest iPhone app I have seen is this 3D mapping app:
Map
http://www.upnext.com/iphone this is Raj Advani founder and lead technical guy behind UpNext which shipped a couple of weeks ago. What is it? A 3D map of New York with tons of stuff about each building and subway lines too. $2.99 and it is worth it. Very amazing technology. Google should buy them. - Robert Scoble
Wow, I can just imagine this spreading to the rest of the country and then eventually the world. Awesome. - Shawn Hickman
So funny... Scoble it's about time you come visit New York... - Eric
Where is the data about each building coming from? - Matt
http://www.upnext.com/iphone is the right link, thanks for the meeting robert! - Raj Advani
Chris: they got it from several sources and then built their own algorithms that map that data onto the 3D map. I filmed quite a bit with Raj and he's definitely going to be part of the Building43 opening on June 11. By the way, on the iPhone was a 3D picture of the same corner we were standing on. It is most impressive and imagine what it'll look like after they get real-time data like traffic cams and other things placed on top of it. - Robert Scoble
Beau: sorry about the bad link. Should work now. The iPhone capitalized the name iPhone and made the link bad. Heheh. - Robert Scoble
Bruce: you should make Ourdoings link to the friendfeed item here so that people could see that there's a conversation happening here. - Robert Scoble
Robert, you can do that by turning on Disqus on your Site Integration page. If you don't have time to deal with it, put me in touch with your web guy. It's easy on the OurDoings side, but you have to find the right boxes to check on the Disqus side. - Bruce Lewis
Bruce: I don't see how to do that. Oh, are you saying to go to Ourdoings and add Disqus there? I'll go look. - Robert Scoble
You go to http://ourdoings.com/roberts... click the Edit tab, and the "Site Integration" link will be at the bottom. Lots of stuff to play with in there. Disqus social media reactions aren't instant, though. It has to crawl. Hmmm...I guess it wouldn't be too hard to use the FF API to find the best matching FF item and just link. Let me see what I can do. - Bruce Lewis
Bruce: cool, I added that. Thanks! - Robert Scoble
"The iPhone capitalized the name iPhone and made the link bad." ... Robert, I thought url's were not case sensitive, but I've run into this using iWeb. Domain names seem to always ignore capitalization, but directories and files do not. Is this the general rule for url's or just the way some software handles capitaliozation? - Gary Etie
Robert, You're in NYC with your iPhone. How is the coverage? I'd love to get the iPhone but have heard Verizon's (my current provider) coverage is better than AT&T's. - Thomas
"Is this the general rule for url's or just the way some software handles capitaliozation?" - it's characteristic of UNIX / Linux. Microsoft servers are case-insensitive after the .TLD/. - John Craft
Nice! now I can see NYC without the smells - Steve Arrowood
Thomas: I haven't had a problem with the coverage here, but I hear Verizon is better. AT&T, Walt Mossberg told me, is spending a lot of money upgrading its systems on the East Coast. - Robert Scoble
so glad you got a demo of this - the upnext guys rock! i think their app is going to totally blow up in the valley - Allen Stern
Robert, Thanks for the information. I follow Walt, so I'll look for his updates. - Thomas
I LOVED this! I was trying to develop a similar application for my domain http://4ny.com but their software is better. Back to the drawing board i Guess - Ric Johnson
When are they planning to include other cities? is that known yet? - Maryam
Where is the desktop Cocoa Touch emulator, so I can run it at home without the special hardware? - ianf ⌘
Someone needs to make this for Android. - Lynne d Johnson
Robert, the link back to FriendFeed is working. - Bruce Lewis
