"They need four things: 1. Real time IM. XMPP. So I can see FriendFeed messages pop up in Google Talk just like I can see Twitter messages. 2. SMS compatibility. Shorten messages to 140 characters so they can be received via SMS like Twitter can. 3. Filtering. Both positive (show me all items/clusters that say, for example, "Duncan" in them) and negative (remove all items/clusters that say, for example, "1938media" in them). 4. Give me ability to pull stuff out of the database using a simple, declarative language. For instance, I want to tell FriendFeed this: a. show me all objects that have "duncan" in them b. but only if they have two or more "likes" c: and only if them have one or more "comments" d. and remove any item that has "1938media" in them And have those instructions build me a URL that I can l ink to, etc."

I'd like to search "textABC" and choose the target (1) feed of "personX"; e.g. includes friends+ (2) contributions of "personX"; e.g. no friends (3) items commented by "personX" (4) items liked by "personX". Further, I'd like to specify whether "textABC" is in (A) only search "personX"s text (B) text of all people.

I like the idea of custom tabs and am a big supporter of the Disqus idea. I implemented Disqus on my blog and think it is an outstanding commenting system. It really breathes life into comments.

every phone in the world can receive SMS longer than 140 characters. modern phones display the whole message as one, older phones simply break it up into two messages

as for pulling stuff out of FF database, I agree that while the advanced search in FF is quite powerful it still leaves a lot to be desired. I see a Summize-like service for FF...
