Maybe a step in the direction you mention would be to have an aggregated likes of all the people you are subscribed to in friendfeed, just an initial step, maybe later friendfeed can have an aggregated likes for all of friendfeed, but then it would become something like digg ...

Cesar: bing! You nailed exactly what I hope will happen. I've always wanted to talk to the database and pull value out of it. I can't today. When we all can, watch out, FriendFeed will explode in growth.

I still think likes and importance are relative. It's individual taste. I for one like noise and that's why TechMeme doesn't meet my need. Having said that, when the mood hits me and I want "credible" news, I check it out.

I think there are 3 classes of actions here: 1) People who what to think what the "smart" people think 2) People who want to discuss interesting stuff and eventually have an opinion 3) People who want to snipe, tear down and just be schmucks - Your post didn't really resonate with me because I fall in group #2 - the link without the conversation isn't all that interesting...
- Brian Roy
I still check out TechMeme every day too. The two matched together are actually incredibly useful. I wish Gabe would add a new section to TechMeme which includes the best of Twitter, videos, and FriendFeed items. He wouldn't need to mess with the top of the page. Just add them to the bottom.

Brian: I agree with you, but many people do not. Many people see the comments under each item and say that it overwhelms them. They just want a list of links without being forced to see all the commentary and get involved. Remember, for every participant there are 100 lurkers.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: Agree the vast majority fall into group #1 (but sometimes it seems like the majority is group #3).
- Brian Roy
Too bad you can't annotate your likes as you did in your blog post. That would add to the noise, to be sure. But if they could be hidden or included in search as you hint, could be potentially useful for all sorts of stuff.
- Tom Landini
Tom: the thing is, a lot of times I'm "liking" things on my iPhone and can't key in much info. I agree that I could build a really killer news page if I could do a lot more to explain why I liked those items, though.

hey robert glad you found my story on the FriendFeed SUP interesting.
- (jeff)isageek
jeff: if everything used SUP then I would have the ego feed I want. :-)
