Unfortunately, Google has yet to enable full-time SSL from Gmail services provided for Google Apps (like email from your own domain). So for many people who rely on Gmail/Google Apps for their business - they are have less security options than regular Gmail folks.

You *can* securely use email on your own domain (Google Apps). I, for example, can connect to mail.dmiessler.com and both login and view mail over HTTPS.

I've gotten into the habit of making sure to use "https" for all of my Google web apps (Gmail, Reader, Calendar, Docs, etc.). Update your bookmarks to add the "s". It's not a guarantee, but it's a step in the right direction.

@Daniel (is this how you reply to someone in a comment thread on friendfeed? not sure on the etiquette) - that's definitely true. You can just tact on a "HTTPS" instead of a "HTTP" (or use the Better Gmail firefox extension) and you should be good to go. But it's still not "Full-Time" SSL. Doesn't Full Time SSL mean it forces SSL-use no matter what?

Unfortunately when you enable SSL in the GMAIL config settings, it screws up the Gmail App on the Blackberry. I've read that they're working on fixing it, though.
