Twit-Out FAQ
I wanted to start a place where we can teach newcomers why we're doing Twit-Out. What resources have been put up? I gotta start pasting in URLs here. Can you help? - Robert Scoble
Why don't we just completely switch to FriendFeed? - Tad, Anti-Immanentizer
@Tad I don't think I can get my 292 followers to all switch to FriendFeed because I have a feeling we'd run into the same problem here. - Zach Flauaus
Tad, why don't we switch to FriendFeed? No XMPP (yet) which keeps you from talking to FF from a chat client like Google Talk. No SMS (yet) which keeps you from talking to FF from a cell phone's SMS/text interface. Those are the big two. Others I hear? Too confusing of an interface. Then I teach people how to hide things and they get happier. - Robert Scoble
Zach: I bet that FriendFeed will see much better reliability because of the team behind it. Do you know that the guys who started Gmail and Google Maps are the founders? - Robert Scoble
SO what is the point of a Twit-Out anyway? <<<Newcomer - Jacob Nahin
What's the point of a Twit-Out? It was started during frustration at some of Twitter's outages and lack of communication from the Twitter team about those outages. See some of the URLs left earlier in this cluster to learn more. - Robert Scoble
Scoble: I have no doubt FF will have much better reliability. It's mainly a worst-case scenario though. And yes I do know that those two are related. ;) I really hope FriendFeed starts to see more acceptance. It's much better than SocialThing, even though that's a totally different area. - Zach Flauaus
There is no way I am abandoning Twitter for FF. Without SMS is is much, much less useful for me than Twitter is for the out of band information channel Twitter, at it's core, is. FF is great as a discussion/comemntary platform... but it is not a first tier information source. - Soulhuntre from twhirl
I am a huge Digsby fan. If it doesn't work with Digsby, chances are i won't be on it regularly...unfortunately. I like desktop-based apps that i can aggregate everything from at once. saves time. - Jacob Nahin
@Andrew Dobrow (@anjrued on twitter) has the best post on #Twit-Out - thanks Andrew!! Bwana did a nice post too! - Susan Beebe
Soulhuntre: the FriendFeed team told me they are working on both SMS and XMPP. So those problems will be solved soon. - Robert Scoble
Robert - you nailed it with XMPP, SMS, Hide - right on point ...nice, thank you! - Susan Beebe
also, the grey text, as mentioned by Pruitt, is really annoying - Jacob Nahin
Pruitt: get Firefox and learn to use the "Zoom" feature. It makes the text bigger and less gray. But I like the gray text, all truth be told. Google Talk with Twitter has even smaller text (and isn't controllable like Firefox lets you make text). - Robert Scoble
What is the point of the Twit-Out? Its a way for all the power users to show their support for Twitter by not using it, so the servers stay up. The sacrifice you are about to witness brings a tear to this old geek's eye. - jcunwired
I got used to the grey text over time honestly. I got addicted to the contrasting fonts of discussion vs post. It's very fluid. - Bwana
How long does the Twit-Out last? - sage brennan
sage - 24 hours from 40 minutes ago :) - Bwana
Twit-Out was *real* and it was *fun*, but still not sure if it was *real fun* ?! - Susan Beebe
