Cisco is giving me access to executives who usually never talk to the press. They are announcing a bunch of stuff soon for data centers that's going to push the industry forward. I wonder what IBM, HP, and Sun are doing (Sun has a press conference next week too -- it's going to be a big week in datacenter/enterprise land).

I'm learning more about datacenters than I ever expected to know.

Pico: the people I'm meeting have lots of cool stories about the networking industry. I interviewed the team yesterday that was Cisco's first acquisition. Been doing this stuff for a long time.

Robert: I'm looking forward to learning more about your meetings with Cisco executives. Have you made contact with key folks in the Emerging Technologies Group? If no, let me know, I can make an introduction for you. I have a key relationship within this group who is focused on creating the next $1B business unit for Cisco. They brought telepresence to market and held the Cisco IPrize contest; which my team came in second. Well we were one of 12 finalists but as far as I'm concerned we came in second!

Surely its just fibre channels, fast buses and redundancy? I agree that a lot of the stuff that Cisco does, is the unsung frameworks that we all take for granted in the Twitter-verse et al. But what is really exciting that Cisco are doing, I'd really like to know? Yours ex-networking guy with Cisco training to boot.

Ed: not even close. Come back Monday.

Are you talking to Cisco about their purchase of Pure Digital? *wink*

I shall return expecting news of gifts of technological excellence

We usually keep all the smart-guys locked up in the lab somewhere and only let talking heads like myself out to play - we thought it would be fun to do a thing we call 'Cisco Unscripted' and give very unfettered, unscripted, pretty unfiltered (there are a few bleeps you just HAVE to edit) to the people who do the real work, invent the technologies, build the products, etc....
