Robert Scoble
All the Farsi users on FriendFeed are getting my wife's family interested in FriendFeed. It's amazing to watch their interest go way up after they see that not just geeks are on.
I'm guessing that they are here because the government hasn't yet blocked this service. - Robert Scoble
Didn't know your wife's family was Iranian. - Mark Forman
Yup. Maryam lived in Tehran until she was 14. Her family sent her to study in Silicon Valley because they were afraid for how she'd live there. She has some interesting stories of being bombed by the Iraqis with American bombs while listening to the BBC. - Robert Scoble
I wouldn't be surprised if it was because of the filter either - mjc
I think it's great when any device can foster communication between people from all over sans government or NGO's. International trade has done far more for world peace than UN. - Mark Forman
I talked to a guy today at #barcampseattle who said there is no censorship of Internet in Iran or UAE (Dubai). Can you confirm? - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
I knew many Iranian students/emigres because was going to school in AZ right after the Shah fell from power. The AZ climate was very attractive to Iranians due to it's similarities with Iran. Love Persian food myself. - Mark Forman
Brian: totally false. At least in Iran's case. - Robert Scoble
To mark: which Persian foods?: - Zahra HB
There is systemic censorship. My wife never even heard about the Holocaust until she came to the US. - Robert Scoble
That's what I thought too. Thx for clarification. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
to Brian: false! I'm from Iran - Zahra HB
Zahra HB: So do you jump from social network to social network to avoid the censorship? Have they not yet blocked Friendfeed? Do you think they will? - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
no they did'nt block friendfeed yet. but facebook and flicker are filtered! and "social network" to "social network"?! what is the diffrent?! - Zahra HB
@Zahra-it's been so long since I've eaten it just remember I liked pretty much any that I ate. I know middle eastern food all related but remember Persian food having a nice delicateness on the palate. My friend's restaurant was called the Mustache Cafe. - Mark Forman
Mark: now you know why I'm gaining weight. I have great Iranian food regularly! :-) - Robert Scoble
to mark: wowwwwwwwwwwww - Zahra HB
Zahra HB - By "social network to social network" - I'm asking if you are forced to move to new sites to be able to communicate openly and avoid the filters. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
to brain, sometimes. but many of persian users use VPN or proxy to bypass the filtering - Zahra HB
well all the old races make good food. My wife is taiwanese and I live in Taiwan. How do you think od races get to be old races igf they don't know how to do business and cook?::D Re; weight @ Scoble. tell that to Loren :D - Mark Forman from twhirl
Brian: yes, that's what is happening, my wife says. Those in oppressed countries like Iran and China are used to this little game and spread word quickly about new services and also other ways to communicate. - Robert Scoble
Mark: Loren smoked cigs last time I saw him. I'd rather be a fat dude than someone who smokes. - Robert Scoble
Zahra HB: I see. Thanks for the info. It's great to see these types of conversations happening in real time on Friendfeed! I find this fascinating. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
And, anyway, I ran four marathons in high school. Best time was 3:14. I ran enough in high school that I figured I could coast for a while. Plus, I know so many people who've been in awesome shape and have died young anyway. Enjoy life and eat more Persian food, is what I say! :-) - Robert Scoble
Does your wife make fresh yoghurt? I think good yoghurt is one of the best foods known to man. - Mark Forman
Robert - you went 3:14 in high school? Wow! - Hutch Carpenter
to brain. yes:( Viva friendfeed ;) - Zahra HB
Hutch: yeah, and I did that 3:14 from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz which has a 2,500-foot mountain in the middle of it, so we went up and down 2,500 feet in elevation during the marathon too. Oh, and on that day it was raining heavily and had a 20 mph wind in my face. Damn I was in good shape back then. Of course back then we didn't have cool stuff on computers to distract us from running for hours a day. Sigh. - Robert Scoble
I went to Tehran for a snowboarding trip this past winter, one of the most beautiful citites i have been to, and as scobliezer said Iranian food is good. They are very hospitable! - Ismail D
Trying to tempt Iranian friends to FriendFeed using this post. - Michael C. Harris
ماست فقط ماست گوسفند - فوهاد صا.
haha, I found all men from all countries are same, all of iran's viewers wrote about the iranian foods , seems that tummy is the most important element in body ;)) - Zahra HB
Say "Hi" and "Welcome" to your wife and all Iranians that think FF is cool, cuz it is!! I feel sad for all those people in info/comm suppressed countries. That's why America is sooo great!! NO censorship. I love that... freedom of speech!! YEAH!!!!! May the entire world join us! =) - Susan Beebe
Foad: that made Maryam laugh. She was expecting something geeky and you said that the only good yogurt is that made from lamb milk. - Robert Scoble
خسته نباشی٬ چه کشف مهمی کردی - گناهکار
رابرت: اسمایلی تشکر از مریم خانوم - فوهاد صا.
Brian Daniel Eisenberg: in UAE sites are blocked like porn web sites etc, and twitter for some reason is blocked by one of the operators (Think its because of the SMS), IRAN most social networking sites are blocked - Ismail D
we iranians, have a great sense of humor because of country's situation - Kamal
OK we need translation services inside FriendFeed NOW. I'd love to read *ALL* these posts and I cannot... but I am really happy to see all the lively conversation from Iranian Farsi speaking folks here... this is really beautiful! Some of my best friends in California were exports from Iran. - Susan Beebe
Just because it's not English, doesn't mean it's not geeky ;P - xero
