"Hi Mark, These are all valid points. I'm not saying that this will be an overnight sea change by any means. And the points about source protection and liability are definitely huge. But I think this can be done without sacrificing journalistic ethics. 100% transparency will likely never exist, and that's not a bad thing necessarily. Sources need to be protected. But I still believe that there is much data that can be offered up to the public to be scrutinized. At first we could start seeing these types of "notebooks" sometime after after the story, very much like the "bonus content" I referred to in the post. But I think eventually certain types of journalism will will become a collaborative, real-time effort between the journalist and the community, hyper local journalism especially.
