It's amazing how getting out of Silicon Valley helps you re-focus on what matters, & what 'ordinary people' care about (online and offline)
My normal friends who aren't into tech love talking Avatar, politics, and Tiger Woods. How about yours? - Robert Scoble
Avatar is a hot topic, no one around here seems to care about Politics or Tiger Woods. The Mac tablet has come up once or twice. But they don't care about FriendFeed, not so much about Twitter, and only slightly more about Facebook - Chris Saad
They care about Skype/IM, Email, Digital Photo Frames and Mainstream media - Chris Saad
Which means to me we should be focusing on enabling mainstream media to go real-time, pushing data to photo frames, email and IM clients - Chris Saad
My observations exactly. Skype, Digital Photo Frames and Tiger Woods! - Sean Kelly

The End of the 2000s: Goodbye to a Decade from Hell - TIME
"Instead, it was the American Dream that was about to dim. Bookended by 9/11 at the start and a financial wipeout at the end, the first 10 years of this century will very likely go down as the most dispiriting and disillusioning decade Americans have lived through in the post–World War II era. We're still weeks away from the end of '09, but it's not too early to pass judgment. Call it the Decade from Hell, or the Reckoning, or the Decade of Broken Dreams, or the Lost Decade. Call it whatever you want — just give thanks that it is nearly over." - Sean Kelly from Bookmarklet

""The most interesting aspect of the Internet is none of the technology features; it's putting people in communication with one another, very broadly. Whether that's through Web sites that allow people to publish to a large audience with amazing efficiency and lower cost per unit people that you communicate with; or it's email or Chat or other means to put people in more direct two-way communication. The strength of the Internet is with what people will do with that communication capability."" - Sean Kelly from Bookmarklet

Clive James isn't a climate change sceptic, he's a sucker - but this may be the reason - http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment...
"In 1973 the cultural anthropologist Ernest Becker proposed that the fear of death drives us to protect ourselves with "vital lies" or "the armour of character". We defend ourselves from the ultimate terror by engaging in immortality projects, which boost our self-esteem and grant us meaning that extends beyond death. More than 300 studies conducted in 15 countries appear to confirm Becker's thesis. When people are confronted with images or words or questions that remind them of death they respond by shoring up their worldview, rejecting people and ideas that threaten it, and increasing their striving for self-esteem." - Sean Kelly from Bookmarklet

"Typically users fall into two camps: those who prefer to collaborate around files and documents, and those who prefer to interact with content and other people directly on web sites. Researchers: Prostate Biopsy Not Always Necessary, May Lead To Other Health Ailments
"Winston-Salem, NC (AHN) – Researchers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the University of Wisconsin-Madison have found that some elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in men may be caused by a hormone normally occurring in the body. What the findings mean is the antigens are not necessarily a predictor of the need for a prostate biopsy, which can lead to numerous health ailments in males." - Sean Kelly from Bookmarklet
