"We hated Bauhaus. It was a bad time in architecture. They just didn’t have any talent. All they had were rules. Even for knives and forks they created rules. Picasso would never have accepted rules. The house is like a machine? No! The mechanical is ugly. The rule is the worst thing. You just want to break it. “This exhibition brings together over 400 works by some 100 teachers and students of the Bauhaus that reflect the extraordinarily broad range of the school's output, including architecture, ceramics, costume design, furniture, graphic design, industrial design, painting, photography, sculpture, and textiles. A selection of these works are represented on this website, along with a historical overview of the school, its workshops, and faculty.” —Bauhaus 1919 – 1933: Workshops for Modernity, through January 25, 2010 at Moma Related: Josef Albers Atley (307 views) Filed under bauhaus, avant garde, modernism, oscar niemeyer Also,"

just as an fyi, I do not agree that Bauhaus was a bad time in architecture!

it was not user friendly, a lot of emphasis on design, purity, aesthetics, but occupant comfort was not high, and certainly no concern for nature, everything hard and bare surfaces and alien to my taste...Rietveld houses were notoriously poorly constructed with leaking roofs, cold walls and hard to heat..

Is it possible to construct architecture that adhere to the design principles of Bauhaus philosophy but still be well constructed?

"The list author says: "In order to master the art and science of any field, have a solid foundation of the basic principles, learn the history of its development and always have a critical mind of everything that you create. With these tools in hand, you can solve any challenges that come in your way.""
