This is clearly not my cat. If this was my cat he's have one arm shoved down into the printer trying to tear up all the internal whirling bits with his bare claws.
- Soup
Too Funny! Reminds me of the San Mateo Cat Shelter where one of the cats loves to sleep on top of the laster printer where the paper comes out...
- Greg Lato
1600+ to beat the FFundercats live chat thread. I think with this real time now on all threads we're going to see some truly epic comment numbers.
- Simon Wicks
Ivan, no the picture speaks for itself. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Petr, I have no idea what you mean, but thank you. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol .. :] that, partially, might have been the purpose.... I don't know it exactly either. :] .. was I reflecting on a cat under the fax, and that it is hard to fax that way ... /?:] ... "underfaxing at its worst" ..
- Petr Buben
there ya have me ! :] .... see, to be honest with you, i saw this pic couple days ago, but i let it go, without posting it ..... what does that make me? :]
- Petr Buben
even a flat cat... faxes just can't handle the hair. You'd have to shave the cat first, else the hair will burn and stick to the drum... a mess! (I am extrapolating from transparencies, mind, i don't have access to a cat to test)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Hehe, Joelle. This is now tied for the 'likes' top stop. One more then, hehe. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Hehe, Greg. Blimey! Erm, is that not far from 500 likes now? ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Bloody marvelous, Kol. Wish I could like it again... too cute (and help u to 500 likes).
- Roberto Bonini
I couldn't believe it when I logged on from the morning over posting it and saw it was at something 200 likes! You all have a strange fetish with cats and fax machines, hehe. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Am I the only one who saw this and their first thought was - My goodness did someone break that cats neck? It still freaks me out a little
- Steve C
Steve, it does look a little out of place, but cats are pretty bendy. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
They fax much better if you flatten them first. What?
- Kevin Pedraja
So we can put this post to rest now. :-) 505 likes final count, wow! :-D Good night all!
- Kol Tregaskes
My like is the last one so far :) - 509 afaik
- getalifejerk
did 3 people really un-like this? now at 506. wtf (edit: uh, oh, yeah, me and 2 + 506 others makes 509. dammit, jim, i'm an artist, not a mathematician)

"The Volkswagen Microbus is a classic - even to those of us born after its time. Arguably unlike the newly remade Beetle, this remake of a VW classic is remarkably true to the original on the outside - but on the inside it is a bio-diesel hybrid stuffed full of high tech gadgetry and eco-friendly innovations."

Super cool VW Bus making a comeback...
- Walt Ruppar
First of all, I'll cop to wanting one of these. That being said, Jason is right. This is for rich hippies (who probably aren't hippies at all). The VW microbus became the darling of the Flower Power crowd because it was cheap, easy to repair, and big. You could camp in it. Is there a car today that fits this bill?
- Chris Baskind
wow, you can buy an awful lot of pot with $129,000.
- Thomas Hawk
I don't know a self-respecting hippie that would prefer this over a really nice indoor greenhouse. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
@Chris, Most cars today aren't as simple, but with the wealth of knowledge online, it just takes more time. The minivan/SUV can become a camper van with a few mods. They'll never take the place of the VW, but they're an updated version of the 70s panelvan conversions (hopefully without shag carpeting & a disco-ball).
- Steven Cains
Nope: there will never be anything that simple again. That's not all bad: I can't imagine a 1960s VW Minibus would satisfy *any* federal safety standard these days. You're right. A used minivan might be the closest thing.
- Chris Baskind
Very Cool. You can't drive your house but, you can sleep in your Van !!!
- Eric Logan
Very intriguing. How much steel is in that thing? Chris, that would be my next question after fuel consumption: how safe is this thing? And I agree, when we can go back to making transportation that costs less than a small home, we may have achieved something amazing. ;)
- Melanie Reed
However, I have heard (and I'm not remembering where at the moment) that there has been a movement growing of people seeking alternative housing and substituting things like this as the new "mobile" home.
- Melanie Reed
Everyone is loving this! We should have an FF one and use it to travel to all the FFers around the World (like Pea seems to be doing ;-)). Hehe. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
cool idea, kol. the ff-stream of this tour would be alltheawe. just imagine the photos.

I've owned 5 VWs, two of which were split window vans. I'd love to have another, this is awesome!
- Rick Bucich
from twhirl
I have had more VWs than other cars...starting with a 71 Superbeetle, and a Split Window Microbus. I would LOVE to have something like this.

Good for grandparents to visit grandchildren and children through the European continent (or another one as well)...nomadism-revival!
- Isabelle Ayel
wow i posted this a while back and now can't seem to find it for some reason. friendfeed's search function really sucks!
- Cee Bee
So after reading this article yesterday, I found myself this evening in front of a local place that specializes in reconditioning old VWs. It was closed, but there's an awesome red and white microbus out front with a For Sale sign on it. Ugly, underpowered -- and probably dangerous, by modern standards. Want. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
Cee, really? I find FF search is pretty good.
- Kol Tregaskes
I love this Mobile...owned a few Vdubs, lived in a VW camper, but this is off the hook..I would become a true nomad with this...
- bcultral
I'd like to have something like this, something small. What do you really need? A bed, perhaps a TV and room for your computer. Then you can live anywhere you like, in theory.
- Kol Tregaskes
Who is this Canadian designer Alexandre Verdier? Seems like he is on Facebook, Linked In but I can't seem to find anything else about him.
- Brian Sullivan
We had a wesvalia built Micro when I was a kid. I loved that thing. It was a little flimsily built; but boy it was perfect for my family of campers and road-tripping warriors. Too bad this one is so pricey
- Bill Rawlinson
"Though the term “herd behaviour” today is most often used when talking about financial markets, it originally described individuals in a group acting together without direction – for example an animal herd fleeing from a predator. When seen from above, animal herds seem to follow intricate and intriguing patterns."
- Kol Tregaskes
from Bookmarklet
When we watch Planet Earth, I'm always amazed at the sheer numbers of herds. I like to think of herds as >1000 (is that less than?), but we saw one doc that showed something like 25K gazelles. Amazing. Or the one with the gigantic flock of birds. WOW.
- Anika
Planet Earth is an amazing documentary. I guess Nature's Great Events are on their way to the US soon too. That's another great natural history doc from the BBC.
- Kol Tregaskes
Yes, I've seen NGE, but seriously PE is infinitely better, visually speaking. The only thing that bugs me about PE is the constant, "Thanks to our brand-new, super-expensive technology we were able to be the first to capture this fish swimming." or whatever. Enough with the dick-stroking just give me facts.
- Anika
Yeah but there isn't much of that to be fair and is completely overshadowed by the quality of the images and documentary. Both NGE and PE are excellent. We get so much of that from the BBC, it's great.
- Kol Tregaskes
You don't think it's a lot? The other night we watched the PE marathon on Discovery. In each hour show, Weaver must have mentioned it 3 - 4 times. That's a lot to me. :) I can't wait to get both series in a boxset, but we agreed that we'll wait until we get a better TV.
- Anika
Anyone know when the new Planet Earth is coming out, i heard they were filming it a long time ago but i know it takes years to make those?
- Steve C
Steve, I had no idea there was even a new one in the making. How exciting.
- Anika
Steve, I just realized that the Planet Earth marathon I was watching was narrated by Sigourney Weaver, whereas the old ones were narrated by David Attenborough. Maybe these are the new ones, which explains why I was confused over some of the topics thinking, "Gosh I don't remember that one."
- Anika
New Planet Earth? News to me. I think there is a "movie" coming out or even out but I've not heard of any new series.
- Kol Tregaskes
In the U.S. Discovery cut the episodes and redid the narration with Sigourney. Same footage.
- Stephen Mack
Ah you can't beat David Attenborough - who could ever replace him?
- Kol Tregaskes
I'll have to look it up, but I thought it was in like Discovery magazine that they were making the next set of series. I was wrong once in like the second grade, so I guess it could happen again.
- Steve C
Seriously? I liked Attenborough's narration.
- Anika
Anika. That's what I meant. There's no one better IMHO. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
David Attenborough is the king. Nobody else comes close. He's an incredible man- Parkinson did a great interview with him.
- Bec Rowe @d0tski
And Attenborough says he has no plans to retire. Yippee for us. :-)

I still think Shareaholic's bookmarklet is great but I use less services now so don't need it. I've added Chrome Dual View to my top list of bookmarklets, very useful.

One of my poor attempts is above. It was something I drew when I was young (many years ago). I used to draw all the time but I've not drawn anything for ages now. I'd like to start again and combine drawing with photography in the future. My palette is limited to pencil and black/white drawings. Painting, for me, is a struggle and colouring always comes out a little wrong. :-)

The question should be: Do Artists still "paint, draw, sculpt..." ? I guess so, because Painting can mean creating images with Processing, and Sculpting can mean making physical computing constructs with Arduino and drawing can be fabbing with a 3D printer from 3D generative algorithms... Of course there are artists here. Just a thought.
- Brad Kligerman
I still draw stick people and houses with big windows and a chimney with a plume of smoke, anything else is beyond my capabilities.
- M F
I typically paint (acrylics, oils, watercolors), but I also do a bit of hand sculpting, pottery wheel, and if you forced me to, I will also draw, though I prefer charcoals and pastels for that.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Brad, yes true. This question is asking if there are any 'traditional' artists out there?
- Kol Tregaskes
Amanda, any examples of your work that we could see? :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol: I'll have to hunt around for something. I've tended to give away whatever I create, but I know I've kept some stuff. It's been a while since I've actually done anything, because I've been so damn busy with school and work.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Nice thread, Kol. I used to draw all the time as a youngster but lost touch until I had some free time and took a drawing class at a local nonprofit art school about 5 years ago. Just like you, I cannot paint, either, and have no eye for color, so I stick with B&W. Here are a couple of charcoal sketches from that class: http://huffstuff.com/images... and http://huffstuff.com/images... . I loved that class so much and would love to go back.

Yes. I can. My college degree is in fine arts.

I used to draw constantly until I went to college. Then it just stopped. I've been trying recently to sate the creative urges with photography. But I kinda suck at it.

Yes I paint! But I mainly use just hand drawing for work, since there is not a software program that does concept design as quickly and well. My Painting Portfolios are here: http://bit.ly/dxqiD

@Kol: I like the monster, the bird and the Corgi. I draw for fun, mainly in pencil and sometimes pen, and I'm trying to learn to do color pencil. I only draw people though, I can't draw a background or scenery at all. http://picasaweb.google.com/jesskah...

Considering some new socmedia posting methods. Ping.fm to Friendfeed/Twitter. Stop importing Twitter to FF. Only port FF-originated posts to Twitter (for FF bookmark shares, mostly). Use #fb hashtag to post selected updates to Facebook. What do you think? Will that work the way I think it will?
On the #fb thing, if I post on ping.fm and include the hashtag, it'll end up getting to Facebook through Twitter (and the Facebook Selected Twitter app), right? It won't matter that I originally posted on ping.fm instead of Twitter?
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Oh, and would probably have to unhook FF from Facebook, though...but that's already pretty noisy over there, so I ought to anyway.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I didn't know that it was possible to use hashtags to post only selected tweets to Facebook. Thanks for letting me know!
- Brome
You've got to install the Selected Twitter application on Facebook first.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
i wouldn't want to waste 3 characters just to post to Facebook... Facebook does a decent enough job of not posting @replies as status, although they should probably allow for eliminating RT's as well
- Nathan Chase
lately, nothing I do involving ping.fm seems to work like I think it will.
- Jim Hearts FF
Yeah, but there are things I'd want to post on Twitter and not have it update my FB status. Not just RTs and @replies. But as it is, I never update my FB status - this provides a happy medium.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Jim, really? What happens? I've never used Ping.fm before, but just was looking it over and wondering if it would help me control my online presence a bit more.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Wait. If I ping.fm to Friendfeed, it's going to come into Friendfeed as a native post, right? Which means that if I port Friendfeed native posts to Twitter, it's going to double post ALL those if I also have ping.fm go to Twitter. Damn. I need a way to port ONLY Friendfeed bookmark shares or actual FF-originated (i.e., not ping.fm) posts to Twitter. Rethinking.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
That's exactly what I was about to point out, Jandy...lol. You can edit your FF->Twitter settings to solve part of that last problem.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach "Red"
Ping.fm sprays stuff everywhere--I'll be interested in your solution. I used to be sensitive about what came to FF (not wanting to dbl post etc), then I simply decided "It's my feed--I'll do what I want and let others filter out stuff they don't care to see." Would love to learn of your solution though.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
I'm trying to simultaneously post more places and not post duplicate content - I mean, duplicate content on the same place. And I've also got to think about what happens if I post directly on services, rather than using ping.fm all the time. I'm drawing a flowchart. :)
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
The easiest thing to do is have one mic that broadcasts everywhere. That mic being Ping.fm. I have it posting to everywhere. Any service that I post to using Ping.fm does not get to post anywhere else. So FF does not get to post anything to Twitter, Twitter doesn't get to post to Facebook, etc.. I also don't import Twitter to FriendFeed. Now, you *can* import Twitter to FriendFeed, but then you have to turn off FriendFeed in Ping.fm. You can also play with the FF->Twitter settings. But I gave u the basics;)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach "Red"
That means, though, that you're locked into posting from ping.fm. Anything you post directly on FF, like bookmark shares, are stuck on FF. And those are the only things I'd like to go to Twitter...
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Not sure what you mean by bookmark shares, but FF lets you pick specific services to post to twitter.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach "Red"
Sorry, I meant bookmarklet shares. I currently port native FF posts to Twitter so things I share on FF using the bookmarklet get xposted. For the ping.fm thing to work the way I want, I'd need a way to differentiate the FF posts coming from ping.fm from the ones coming from the bookmarklet.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I've been trying something similar. I'd like to selectively post from FF to Twitter, Facebook, socialmedian, etc. I've turned off the FF-to-Twitter within FF (as that posts *everything* I post on FF) and used Twitterfeed. Then I add a #shareit tag which Twitterfeed and socialmedian import.
- Kol Tregaskes
Unfortunately the end result, especially in Twitter, is really messy (e.g.: http://twitter.com/koltreg...). I'm sure some clever person could come up with a Yahoo Pipe that could sort this out.
- Kol Tregaskes
And for Facebook I wanted to have certain services, like FriendFeed, to not appear for certain people. I've put all my RL friends into one list and set the privacy settings to exclude these services from my RL friends list or people but it doesn't seem to work. So those piracy settings are worthless from what I can see.
- Kol Tregaskes
I hate Twitterfeed. But, I am trying to do the same things you guys are. I guess I'll think about this a little and see what I come up with. I really haven't put much thought into it in quite a while.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach "Red"
Ideally I'd like to have the option to select which of my FF posts to go Twitter and Facebook when I'm actually sharing it through the bookmarklet and share box (a simply tick box maybe?).
- Kol Tregaskes
Rah, I'll be interested to know if you come up with a solution?
- Kol Tregaskes
Sorry Jandy, I forgot about this thread! ping works for me for a couple of days and then I'll have to re enter my authorization info for somer services (actually retype it, just using the autofill info doesn't work) : always for tumblr and sometimes for others, though this has not happened to friendfeed yet. The ping people have been insufficiently responsive on GetSatisfaction, this is because I don't think they know what the problem is.
- Jim Hearts FF
Jim, an alternative is hellotxt, if it covers the services you want?
- Kol Tregaskes
I think I'm giving up on the ping.fm idea until Friendfeed gives us more granular control over which posts get crossposted to Twitter. I'll just leave everything mostly as is except adding the #fb hashtag so I actually post on Facebook once in a while, which I don't know.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Hrm...It seems we have similar goals, but not identical goals. What if you set up FF to send all direct posts to Twitter and set up Ping.fm to not post to Twitter? Unless you don't import your Twitter to FriendFeed...then it doesn't work. Hrm..this gets complicated real quick :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach "Red"
I tried that for a while, just originating all posts on Friendfeed and porting them to Twitter, but Twitter's shorter character count always threw me off. I ended up posting needlessly longer things because Friendfeed let me, and I'd rather post Twitter-sized things on Twitter, unless they have pictures or I'm specifically trying to drive convo to FF. Otherwise, I think that would work, and just not import Twitter to FF.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I think this has been fixed with the Beta? Selective sharing to Twitter at least.
- Kol Tregaskes
I do basically that - the only things that go to Twitter from Friendfeed are native posts to my home feed (not room posts), last.fm loves, amazon wishlist adds, and a couple other services - but i don't mind what ends up on Facebook really
- Nathan Chase
Kol, yep, Beta fixes the FF-to-Twitter duplicate problem. I may go back to trying to make this work. It'd be awesome if they'd update the bookmarklet to include DM/pinging/posting to multiple streams and selective Twitter sharing. Then I think everything would be PERFECT. Maybe.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Has someone mentioned yet that the #fb hashtag only works to FB when it is done at twitter.com. I couldn't get it to work any other way.
- Mark Horne
Mark, really? I'm sure it's worked from Twhirl and Tweetie/Twitterfon - I never update from twitter.com, and I've had #fb tagged posts crosspost. But I'm less confident that it would work when the Tweet is imported from somewhere else, like FF or ping.fm. Have you tried that? I think I'll test it. EDIT: works from FF, but it's messy due to the FF link that gets added to the tweet.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Jandy, yeah hope the bookmarklet gets an upgrade too. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I've been giving this topic some thought lately. Creating social media workflows is becoming a needed skill. I might have to write about it soon. Here's my old social map that I need to update: http://www.flickr.com/photos... Nobody has mentioned Tarpipe or Pixelpipe which are some good tools to help with this.
- Mark Krynsky
You should, Mark. And I'll have to look into those tools - I've heard of Pixelpipe, but haven't really checked it out.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I guess this is all sorted now, Jandy?
- Kol Tregaskes
I use ping.fm in twhirl so it hits twitter then each tweet goes to identi.ca, TWiT Army, and Facebook... that works for me just fine
- John Blanton
from twhirl
Kol, I haven't really done much with it. I'm just handling most things through FriendFeed and Twitter.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
The toggle we have to CC to Twitter has fixed the major problem I had. I wanted to selective push articles from FF to Twitter and that's fixed it perfectly.
- Kol Tregaskes
My only automated FF to Twitter share is for posts from selected blogs. In general, I do NOT want every feed to stream on every service. On FriendFeed I share most everything, but I share less on Twitter and even less on Facebook.
