It took me 3 days of random blips to notice they never came through. Go go attentiveness!
- Michael W. May
It seems blip.fm is blocking the pipe from fetching the feed :(. I am building a new pipe (available here: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes...), this time using the official API. Right now it only outputs blips which have hosted mp3s, not blips having YouTube or imeem as the source. You can test it, but you should expect some bugs.

*hugs* Thanks, Cristi, you rock. I have the habit of trying to only blip the mp3s when possible so it's all good (though in line youtube would make you a god hehe)

Any way to fix the RSS timestamping on manual refresh?
- Michael W. May
Timestamps aren't working right now, I'll try to fix them as soon as possible. To get only mp3s in blip.fm, you can try adding "-video -imeem" when searching ;)
- Cristi
Oh, excellent tip... I should have thought to try standard seach parameters. Thanks again for this. I and others love it :)

@Snipergirl: Note the date; it is still "in beta". And all props go to Cristihttps://friendfeed.com/cristi who made the original and then saw it had died and put this together trying to comply with the blip api.

"Timestamps should work now, and it should output all blips :). Let me know if you find any bugs" - Cristi *woowhoo*

Ah, thanks! Appreciate the note and pointer, Alejandro! :) (though sadly with the recent updates, blip.fm is becoming progressively less interesting; damn shortsighted music industry!)
- Adam Lasnik
I know, what happened to seeqpod affected a lot of services. And you are welcome ;)

This is the type of thing I've wanted to do. Mix media together from different locations or sources. Like, put a song with a picture, etc.
- Michael Fidler
Brilliant, Which option do I choose on the RSS feed, so the comments are included? I set mine up so the song come through only with the name.
- Michael Fidler
Michael, use the custom RSS feed option, body text as comment. But this particular entry is imported from the tweet that blip.fm sent out. My blip.fm feed did not pick up on the youtube URL: http://beta.friendfeed.com/eng1ne...
- Phil G
I must have picked the wrong option, I'm going to try it the other way now.
- Michael Fidler
I think we broke it, I'm not getting anything now.
- Michael Fidler
Yikes. Yeah, sometimes when you mess with a feed too often, the FF cache basically refuses to process for a while. Usually if you leave it alone and new items appear in the feed, it will fix itself eventually.
- Phil G
Let me get this straight, I select; include entry as comment. Right?
- Michael Fidler
If you want your blip entry to be in the comment field, that is correct. That is apparently what you already had though on this post: http://friendfeed.com/e...
- Phil G
How is yours set up? Mine should have displayed the video, or the audio is interfering with it. I hope this is possible. Directeur was messing with this, and he was able to get music and picture together at the same time. Definite needed feature!
- Michael Fidler
Ok, I'll break it down. In order to get both an audio and a rich media embed in the same entry on FriendFeed, they have to be explicitly encoded that way as a MediaRSS feed. The default blip.fm feed is not MediaRSS, and including a youtube URL isn't mediaRSS either. What would have to happen is a yahoo pipe (similar to the "BlipFM copy" we are currently using) would have to do two things:
- Phil G
1. Grab the MP3 url and include it as a media element. The BlipFM copy pipe does this already. 2. Look for other URL types, like youtube URLs, and include those as a media embed element. The pipe currently does *not* do that.
- Phil G
The reason why SPECIFICALLY the Twitter feed type in FriendFeed supports youtube and (I'm guessing) TwitPic is because the FF Gods wrote a special loop in the filter to *look* for those URLs and embed them. The problem is, they don't support blip.fm mp3 media, so they can't be used by default for what you want.
- Phil G
I came to the same conclusion, but it never hurts to try. We know how to send a video from blip.fm now. Why anyone would want to, is another question. Paul could build this into the feed if he wanted, too I think a lot of people here would love to include a music track, with either a picture or a video. You should suggest it:-)
- Michael Fidler
Just read your earlier comments. Cristi made the pipe everyone is using; perhaps she could make another one. I still need to thank her for this one. I understand most of the issues with media rss, having seen some lengthy discussions here on the subject. Thanks for explaining it clearly. I wonder how Directeur pulled it off.
- Michael Fidler
Well, he only did mp3 and a thumbnail, right? That's been supported by FF since 9/08: http://blog.friendfeed.com/2008... More experimentation would be needed to see if other media (like mp3 and youtube embed) would appear together in the same FF post. The easiest way to test would be to install the MediaRSS WordPress plugin and create a post with a thumbnail, MP3 and embedded youtube video (or maybe just a link) and see what shows up.
- Phil G
So I can't save a copy of my own version of "cristi" and then import that RSS? I did what you said and now they do import but the dates are off
