First, what I used is not a client of mine: I simply compile (build) the Linden Lab sources from their 'render-pipeline' branch. - Opensource Obscure
More info about Second Life code branches: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki... (the page is a bit obsolete and doesn't mention this specific branch yet) - Opensource Obscure

There are three packages to get: the source package, the artwork package, and the library package. You will find the links (in their most recent version) inside the doc/asset_url.txt file: http://svn.secondlife.com/trac... - Opensource Obscure
Follow the wiki instructions - there's a generic start here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki... - Opensource Obscure

If you're lucky you will get your viewer. Log in and rez a prim. Go to the Feature tab - you can now apply a texture to the prim *light*. That light will cast shadows! - Opensource Obscure
You can even use the parcel media texture, and project movies - or web pages: http://www.youtube.com/watch... - Opensource Obscure
Linux users - write me if you need help with this, email is in my SL profile - Opensource Obscure
I think that at any moment only one light source is actually projecting shadows (the one you're nearer at in that moment). Look at this photo where many sources project textures (the 4 white spots) but only 1 shadow appears: http://www.flickr.com/photos... - Opensource Obscure
