"When you have your community's best interests in mind it can be a little difficult when you see things going this direction isn't it Sheldon?"

"The onus is on you to not share, but it looks way Facebook is implementing it now it seems like anything shared to the timeline like Spotify is shared automatically and persistently. I would be somewhat happy with it if it was a bit more granular and I could omit sharing some things. Not sure that is possible at this point. I guess the other option is to share each track or artist by hand the good old fashion way using Spotify and use the LIKE button when sharing articles for instance. I havent played with it enough to see if content is shared in the same way and shows up both in the ticker and timeline in the same fashion."

"Eloquent way of calling out Facebook on the direction they are heading regarding constant and persistent sharing. Not a fan of that beyond the ways you mentioned (selective content to selective audience). Good stuff Louis."

"Google has all the right tools in all the right places to make this not only a reality, but an essential tool for online marketers. Big advantage for them and it means we won't see it fizzle out due to the lack of mainstream use or interoperability with existing standard tools."

"Glad you enjoyed the video and the post. As you likely know, social authority is already creeping into search results. Currently it is more about social endorsement versus social authority. Thanks for the comment."

It's that time again. I must defend my Redlands Strawberry Festival Photography Competition crown. Out of these 10 photos, what are your favourites? - http://www.flickr.com/photos...
"Agree Eric. This is a great way for pretty much anyone to dive in to location-based engagement. Not just brick and mortar brands. Just need to be a little creative."

"Thanks Jake. I think FS pages are great ways for brands and organizations that don't have a brick and mortar location to use the service. Take a look at their page gallery and you can see plenty of TV shows, news organizations and other non-physical brands doing some interesting things."

"You sum up the beauty of digital/social marketing for me in these sentences. "Starting conversations, serving people and communities in their needs, providing useful interactions, and understanding the natural balance of community investment versus promotion are not new topics. And they are tactical in nature, so we don’t see much of them anymore." For many folks, thinking of business or marketing in this way feels so foreign. It seems unnatural. Drumming up ideas and strategies is easy. Translating those into consistent action and engagement is where your true mettle is put to the test. Thanks for these thoughts Geoff."

"I've seen this happen far too many times Heather. Decision makers go with what they know and can see. The visual design is usually top priority followed by content that really only means anything to them and a few other surrounding employees. The overall IA is almost always ignored unless brought to their attention, but still always plays second fiddle to the paint job. Andrew is spot on. Design is a huge chunk of what we do and we run into these issues frequently. I would say that this happens during any web site design project and not just redesigns."
