"Barnes & Noble's new Nook e-reader is the e-reader that competitors must now beat. So long Kindle 2, it was nice knowing you, but a better reader has come along. And just in time for the holidays, too. If Amazon doesn't have a new model up its sleeve, it will be a Merry Christmas at B&N and a sack of coal for Amazon. Here's why:"

I don't think his reasons amount to anything like that level of confidence, though, and in particular his reason 1 (better hardware!) mostly refers to things I'm sure don't matter, like a replaceable battery, and WiFi.
- j1m
Loanable books, and the ability to read public domain stuff and your own files without paying an amazon tax? That's all I need to hear. Agreed that some of his other reasons are pretty bogus.
- Joel Webber
On the Kindle you can already read your own stuff, pretty much anything in PDF format without paying a penny.
- Internet's Tad
True. But the lending thing is awesome. Its what people want. And it will be a boon for libraries
- Roberto Bonini
yes lending is awesome! that could be game changing. i'm pretty sold on the nook already, but i'm really annoyed that they don't allow you to purchase books while i'm outside of the US with my US credit card, even though you can download overseas.
- sha-mayn teh
If I didn't already have a Kindle, I'd consider the Nook, but I'm really holding out till the new Tablet computers come out next year. Also, I really, really want full color e-ink and that's probably 2 or 3 years away.

If MS Courier has some sort of book reading features, I might look into that. Otherwise, I would really look into Nook. (god, I hate the stupid rhyming that happens when I use that word now).
- Chieze Okoye
Little Women (1994) - I get a kick out of seeing Christian Bale so young and light-hearted as Theodore Laurence (aka "Teddy", "Laurie")
- April Buchheit
Valmont (I've seen Dangerous Liaisons and Cruel Intentions and I find 'Valmont' to be the best movie adaptation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's novel. Annette Benning was just absolutely sexy cruel as Marquise de Merteuil)
- April Buchheit
Wow, all of mine have been named already, except the original Wayne's World. Princess Bride tops the list (and is also my most-read book, it's incredible)

"Ben Darnell, a key member of the Google Reader team, has left Mountain View to jump into startup life. Darnell bailed Google for FriendFeed, which was founded by ex-Googlers and notably in part by Kevin Fox, who used to work with him on the Google Reader team. Darnell is FriendFeed’s first hire in over a year, and will get employee badge number 13. He starts today, and according to the blog post announcing the steal, he’ll be bringing his “ninja-fu data-storage and scalability skills” to the startup."

whoa thats like forgetting your pants!
- Geoff Schultz
No. In the former case, I annoy myself and perhaps inconvenience a friend. In the latter case, I inconvenience myself and horrify everyone around me. Big difference! :P
- Adam Lasnik
I don't know I am a little horrified.

Nice but the suggested careers for my ENTP profile don't really help me: "entrepreneurs, lawyers, psychologists, photographers, consultants, sales represenatives, actors, engineers, scientists, inventors, marketers, computer programmers, comedians, computer analysts, credit investigators, journalists, psychiatrists, public relations, designers, writers, artists, musicians, politicians".
- Jérôme Flipo
I got INTJ. I've sometimes gotten INTP or INTX in the past. "Scientists, engineers, professors, teachers, medical doctors, dentists, corporate strategists, organization founders, business administrators, managers, military, lawyers, judges, computer programmers, system analysts, computer specialists, psychologists, photographers, research department managers, researchers, university instructors, chess players." Maybe it's time to try my hand at dentistry...
- Ruchira S. Datta
I got an INFJ, but it doesn't match up in the career choices. Engineer and entrepreneur weren't on the list, but clergy and councilor were. :)
- Cristo
For all the INFJs, being a coder is not unusual, I am INFJ as well (though earlier in life I tested INTJ). Every type brings something new to the table. I like to think I'm more empathic than my former INTJ self.
- G. Sigh
I am an IFMS (I forgot my score) may have been INFP....
- Mike Nencetti
I don't know why I always retake this. I score the same every time. ENFP.

I would have guessed you're an extrovert. I took a similar test with Steve that rated personality and compatibility. The results were that he was a "mastermind," and I was an "accountant," but we were 100% compatible. At least this time, I got other options besides accountant. :)
- Daisy
I'm another INTP, software developer, music and sports afficionado and overall übergeek. I hope I'm not bragging when I say I love myself. :-)

Some cool stuff, but where do ad execs learn this atrocious lingo? "Dimensionalize exponentially"????
- Benjy Weinberger
The person who leaked the document was a freelancer at one of Pepsi's ad agencies who said "It really hammers in the stereotype of advertising in general, and the complete idiocy that goes into marketing."
- Tobias Boonstoppel
I still believe that the document is an elaborate joke designed to create buzz among the twitterati.

"Police in Nigeria are holding a goat on suspicion of attempted armed robbery. Vigilantes took the black and white beast to the police saying it was an armed robber who had used black magic to transform himself into a goat to escape arrest after trying to steal a Mazda 323."

don't you wish they had a photo? :)

I plan to Lindy Hop, eat a lot, and (obviously) do a lot of work. And hopefully see a bit of each country outside the big cities.
- Adam Lasnik
This is very true, and it was partly due to airfare pricing considerations. It was many *thousands* of dollars more, for some reason, adding Singapore either before or after my time in Beijing :(. With that said, I will likely be visiting Hyderabad in early 2009 and hope and expect to add Singapore to that (since it's more of a hub on the way to/from India) :-)
- Adam Lasnik
Wow, *thousands* more? that's nuts! Alrighty then, look forward to catching up with you in '09!
- Vinoaj Vijeyakumaar
Nope. This will put me at about 72K miles for the year. Not even within the range of a mileagerun, or at least not a sane one. And I ain't doing *two* extra trips to Europe in December just to get 1K status again :P.
- Adam Lasnik
Then again, Rocky... SFO-FRA-CAI (Cairo) -PDX-SFO is over 15K and $1084; I'd get to see friends in Germany, some friends in Portland, earn 30K, and be within 7K of 1K status (which reads funny, but you know what I mean). So tempting! :D Oh, and I'd get to optionally see Cairo for a bit! :-)
- Adam Lasnik
When would you be going to Seoul? I may have a work trip there coming up in a few weeks.
- Rocky
via erin, via becky. "This, like many clichés, so lame and unexciting on the surface, actually expresses a great and terrible truth. It is not the least bit coincidental that adults who commit suicide with firearms almost always shoot themselves in: the head. They shoot the terrible master. And the truth is that most of these suicides are actually dead long before they pull the trigger." :( R.I.P.

You should limit the length of the text field, rather than saying "Comment too long" when you click "Post". :)

When you announced the name, we speculated that you would scrape your SN account and give you a meta-update feed (page, RSS, email), so I don't have to visit and so I can still keep up with friendster reprobates.
- ⓞnor
... I was disappointed at first ("oh, this *adds* to the YASN problem rather than *helping* it") but the feed I get is remarkably entertaining. I don't think the NYT article describes it very well, though.
- ⓞnor
... but is there no way to add an arbitrary RSS feed?

Congrats! I woke up this morning to find 22 new FriendFeed friends. My feed is at least 2^22 times more interesting now.
