Anyone out there share my desire to have the ability to apply more structure to your Evernote notebook hierarchy? I'm not talking about sub-notebooks as that wouldn't make sense but merely the ability to place notebooks in different folders to create more order. The flat org structure & forced alphabetical order listing bothers me.

I agree. - Zachary TG
It reminds me of when Apple TV first came out. It was the most frustrating thing b/c the Apple TV only synced a listing of your playlists - it didn't sync your folder structure. This made finding certain playlists pretty difficult if you relied on it's place in a folder vs. it's actual name. - Mike Bracco
Evernote could be creating this flat structure on purpose to perhaps get us out of the old paradigm of thinking about ordering and categorizing in the traditional sense and stop people from creating dozens and dozens of notebooks - instead having us instead rely on tags and search. - Mike Bracco
I definitely agree. This is one are where I find I'm still stuck on Backpack. The ability to organize by page or project is something I'd really like to see in Evernote. - Shawn Yeager
I agree, this is one of the features that is really keeping me from fully embracing Evernote. - Sean Cantellay
I don't know - it seems to me with tags we should be able have the ultimate flexibility. What is the difference between tag "X" on several notes or having the notes in a specific folder? (I actually have a hierarchy in my tag structure.) - Jim
I don't care for hierarchy at all, I have as few notebooks as possible and try to make use keywords to do my organizing for me. - Robert Miller
This is exactly the way I like to organize my notebooks...in a hierarchical format. My brain works better that way and it keeps me organized and helps me find what I am looking for instantly...which I why I switched from Evernote to OneNote well over a year ago. It is my most used program (besides Photoshop) and is running all the time. - Jim Corkrum
Jim: Yeah and it would seem to be a very easy thing to engineer. Under the hood a notebook is a notebook. It would seem to be just a visual thing they could through on top to let our minds view things the way that most make sense. - Mike Bracco
I think the ability to have a hierarchy of notebooks would be useful. My list of notebooks is getting longer and longer. Finding notes using tags is fine as long as you remember to add the appropriate tag. A hierarchy would be a useful way of "looking in roughly the right place". - Gordon Herd
I think Mike nailed it when he said "Evernote could be creating this flat structure on purpose to perhaps get us out of the old paradigm of thinking about ordering and categorizing in the traditional sense...instead having us instead rely on tags and search." That's what I do... I only use notebooks for permissions purposes to share notes externally or to group a very large set of... more... - Lindsay is in 20-ten

do puppies go well with espresso? how do you eat them, anyway? break off bits and dip them? - Joe Silence disconnected

Big Update: Evernote for iPhone 3.0 is Here - http://blog.evernote.com/2009...
Good lord, how about for Android already? - Matthew DeVries
I agree Matthew... but iPhone has a bigger market, so... Of course, Windows has a bigger market share than Mac but there have been several Mac updates since Windows too... - Lindsay is in 20-ten
I'm fine getting bumped by iPhone, it's a bigger market with bigger hype (if inferior hardware for evernote's purposes). But while promising for the last year to get an Android app out, Evenote had the balls to release a Palm Pre app on the day it launched. Now there is a no-market to be found waste of time, but Evernote got all hands on deck to make sure that a Palm Pre app was ready to ship.... - Matthew DeVries
This is a really significant update. Great work! - Shawn Yeager
