I have heard that you become accustomed to your regular sleeping orientation, which is why it is often hard to sleep in hotels and such (bed faces in a different direction). I've tried on occasion to reorient myself when I can't sleep in a new place, and it usually works (though could be entirely unrelated to my body position). - Shannon Jiménez

I heard this on NPR yesterday - very interesting. They say that it may just be left over from ancient herding when the cows followed the sun as they grazed. I know that Greg is still bummed that our bed can't face north/south due to our window placement....he is convinced he slept better with the magnetic fields at head and feet! If anyone has any scientific study on this we'd appreciate it - might be a 7th grade science project in our house! - Mary Guerrazzi
