Church of the SubGenius - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The central belief in the Church is the pursuit of Slack, which generally stands for the sense of freedom, independence, and original thinking that comes when you achieve your personal goals. The Church states that we are all born with Original Slack, but that Slack has been stolen from us by a worldwide conspiracy of normal people, or "pinks".[12] The Church encourages originality and frowns on actions seen as pinkness, which happens when one bows down to authority and the accepted limits of society. Slack is also about doing nothing and getting what you want anyway. "Bob" being the center of the Slack plane cannot fail, even his failures are startling successes as a result of his absurdly high Slack" - bob from Bookmarklet
Did you ever make it to one of the devivals? - Paul Buchheit
Be careful though: "A Texas woman has lost custody of her son, not even being allowed to write to him, because she was involved in activities of the Church of the Subgenius. Although her son never attended any of the events, which involved fun, nudity, and good old-fashioned blasphemy, a New York judge, James P. Punch, allegedly a "strict catholic", has denied custody of the child Kohl out of anger after seeing videos of the church's devivals and X-days." http://www.metafilter.com/49384... - Paul Buchheit
haha, cant say i have - have you? - bob
No, I seem to recall there was on in Cleveland but I didn't make it for some reason. I should have gone. It seems like the used to play the "hour or slack" on wruw or maybe csu's station. There was some great quote about how you can have whatever you want and all you have to do is want whatever was going to happen anyway, or something like that. - Paul Buchheit

George is a Reverend in the Church of the Subgenius. His license plate says "My Slack". - Gabe
I thought you did go to the devival at CIA, Paul? It was a long time ago, so I don't remember it that clearly. Hour Of Slack is still on WCSB every Sunday night, and is now locally produced, since Rev. Stang moved to Cleveland a few years back - I see him around town on rare occasion. - Sam Harmon
I may convert from Atheism to this. - Gordon Herd
I remember thinking about going, but I have no other memories, so I assume that either I didn't make it or they erased my memories. - Paul Buchheit
