Test post for audio enclosures through the FriendFeed API, the audio of the opening scene from The Godfather. The undertaker Bonasera, asks the Godfather for justice. Contains the famous line: "Someday, and that day may never come, I'll call upon you to do a service for me."
No Flash support on the iPhone means no awesome Godfather excerpts :-(
- Mark Trapp
Works for me. Thomas, the reason it doesn't work on the iPhone is that the player is Flash, and of course, Flash doesn't work on the iPhone.
- Josh Bancroft
audio is very cool.. would be nice to be able to listen to favorited songs
- Travis Parsons
The podcast connect betw NewsJunk and FriendFeed is complete, just published the Gnip interview through the API and it came through as an audio enclosure. Here's a screen shot. http://images.scripting.com/archive...
- Dave Winer
Ah, I see it now on the web. Good point about it not working on the iPhone due to flash.
- Thomas Hawk
I believe in America. Perfect first words for first audio post.
- David Newman
Dave, you are the best! This is terrific on XP Pro in IE7, nice UI, good navigation. I'm sure we'll all have Mike Arrington's voice chatting with us soon <vbg>.
- Bill Claxton
Buffering forever, even after the load indicator is all the way across, but I've been having Flash problems since Firefox 2.x (now using 3.0 on XP)--never have been able to properly diagnose. :(
- Steve Lowe
No issues with playback here. Wish it did a countdown of remaining length, though.
- Tim Cooper
Closed and restarted: now it works--didn't change any other settings. Happens like that all the time. Weird.
- Steve Lowe
Works fine for me on Firefox 3 + Flash 9 on WinXP. Bada-bing!
- Zulkarnain K.
Once I click play, there seems to be no way to stop or pause the audio (other than turn the volume down)..otherwise it works great
- Peter Cattell
before i hit play, there are two funny looking small play buttons above the blue play button.. FF3/WinXP

Robert Scoble aka @scobleizer blocked Aaron Brazell the Troll on Friend Feed! In this video made by Aaron he begs forgiveness!!
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
from Bookmarklet
David, blocking someone is no problem at all and everybody has a right to block whomever they wish! I do not recommend blocking people because you will incite negative feeling from the person you block. Not always depend on situation and reason. But best to leave a transparent life and know what your enemies are saying about you or your brand.
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
It's the internet... there is no such thing as 'enemies'.... =\
- Mona Nomura
Now the problem that we are facing here is called Black Hat Social Media Optimization! I am sure you heard of Black Hat SEO so now it is Black Hat SMO. Wehn someone blocks you and makes a public thread out of it and says bad things about you making a community think you are a bad person. This post thread is also indexed by Google and when searching for your nic the negative thread will come up in search results.
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Mona I have been in SEO business for years and know many high level SEO people like Rand Fishkin from SEOmoz, Danny Sullivan from Search Engine Land, DaveN from davidnaylor.uk and others. These people invented Black Hat SEO first used by people to trick Google into indexing their and their client sites.
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
As many Internet businesses became competitive they started to resort negative brand marketing! So let's say you are Sony and you want to take away business from Casio, you make a negative ad campaign against Casio. Or X-Box vs Play Station!!!
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Now enters Social Media! Let's say one bloggers criticizes a online company, that company hires a PR management firm to attack and discredit that blogger using Social Media networks.
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Some PR firms who resorted to this type of Guerrilla Warfare Marketing are Amanda Chapel, Loren Feldman from 1938media, Aaron Brazell from technosailor. You can check their history in Google and you will find them all attacking other bloggers on multiple times. These people are guns per hire! They represent a number of different clients at different times. I do not want to be naming their clients and who they have attacked, but if you interested in investigating, google is your friend.
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Now at times it is difficult to see what they are doing because they are very clever operators and play tag team not to show their true intentions.
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
So now the question is what does a blogger do if attacked by this savvy Social Media Guerrilla operator? How about if they attack a small Internet business like Pownce microbloging because they want to put it out of business?
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
I'm just here to excahnge information, not delve into 2.0 politics.... =|
- Mona Nomura
Well this is Social Media room! So hope you learn some interesting things about the industry. No need to chose sides just watch and see.

It is cheating: With advanced technology, having sex with a robot hooker is too much like really cheating. For all intents and purposes, you're having sex with another woman. Plus, what if you want to buy your own robot hooker and keep her in the closet at home? It's a thin line between robot hooker and robot girlfriend.
- Russellreno
It is cheating, not because of the realism of the robot, but because of your intentions.
- Morton Fox
Morton, what intentions? Is masturbation cheating?
- mentaleffluvia
um... do men not care WHAT they have sex with? If the sex is BECAUSE it is a robot hooker then that is a kink yeah? I say no, not cheating, inanimate objects should not be an emotional threat.
- Allison
Chris B - Check with your mechanic. You'll be surprised.
- Russellreno
Until you can leave your SO to have a emotional relationship with said robot, no.
- Dana Franks
from twhirl
depends on how long it lasts. I'd like to see that one CHEATERS!
- Eric Truman
I think the robot would have to pass the Turing Sex Test before it could be considered cheating. To pass the Turing Sex Test a reasonable person wouldn't be able to tell if they were having sex with a machine or with a human. Of course, what if, at some point robots surpass humans in satisfying sexual desires?
- iTad
Only if you didn't get the one I told you to get...
- PonziPirillo
Matt: you must have not gotten the memo. FriendFeed's founders are two guys who designed Gmail and Google Maps. The designer designed Google Reader, Gmail, and other things at Google. Does Google go down? Even under extreme loads? Enough said.
- Robert Scoble
yah yah yah - what else is new - greetings from Milan (that's Milan Italy. not Milan Scoble)
- Marc Canter
No seriously, this is unfreakinbelievable! The level of downtime is nearing historic proportions!
- Mario Sundar
this has to be peak usage time, why do they not wait until the middle of the night, there has to be a lower usage point that is more opportune for the upgrade
- Lou Paglia
I expect many more FriendFeed users and many more identi.ca notices... those have been fast and furious this week too.
- Lucretia Pruitt
the fact that they scheduled it during this time is just amazing to me.. WTF were they thinking?
- Mark Williamson
from twhirl
is that what they call down time now :-)
- Duncan Riley
This is obviously not scheduled maintenance. As Lou said you don't schedule maintenance during peak usage hours. I don't think any of their "Scheduled Maintenance" is really that.
- Michael Tefft
Michael - I saw a note on my homepage saying they had scheduled the down time for 6pm today... so this was scheduled
- Mark Williamson
from twhirl
The Twitter Out-of-Service message I just saw says they are preparing for the holiday (like is traffic expected to go up or go down you think?)
- Dennis E. Hamilton
The nice thing about FriendFeed is there is plenty of stimulation above and beyond waiting for Twitter to come back to life.
- Dennis E. Hamilton
be careful, they might have a goatee and be the "evil mirror universe" scoble.
- Andrew Feinberg
@Brandon hmmm... they haven't done it for DNS, I doubt if they would for scoial networks. solution: openid!
- Shivanand Velmurugan
I grabbed kregger, but ugh what is the point of identi.ca beyond a twitter clone?
- Craig Eddy
eg. there is someone on friendfeed called shiva, and I'm shiva too. Who is more authentic?! Mebbe the system should reward one who is more active?! I say that coz I'm usually the more active "shiva" is web2.0 :)
- Shivanand Velmurugan
++ for GUIDs! That would be extra dorky - "You can find me all over the net as 76280920-48a2-11dd-ae16-0800200c9a66!!"
- iTad
Craig: isn't that akin to openid?! essentially they maintain a guid (it is just in the form of a url).
- Shivanand Velmurugan
This is PLURK crap all over again...LAME-O... where's data portability and OpenID protections? we use GUIDs for apps at my office (website apps), but using for people sounds cool, but it's too easy to replicate if you have a copy. But if secure, forget it...awesome ID protection
- Susan Beebe
you clearly need to be faster registering at these new sites!
- headsling
l0ckergn0me, that reminds me of a few years ago when I discovered you CAN'T register http://org.ca , it is apparently on a list of restricted domain names - that's the response from a whois query, anyway.
- Micah
from twhirl
I found this kinda funny.... It's commented out, but still. From the Laconica config sample: #$config['nickname']['blacklist'][] = 'scobleizer'; http://is.gd/KYT
- donato
from twhirl
what do you mean "your" account? any trademarks on the word "scobleizer"?
- Gowri
from twhirl
I'm not sure "like" was right here, I wanted to vote "sad", or "pathetic", or "yet another let's claim popular domains scam", but FF doesn't provide me those options. I say we spam the hell out of such people ;-)
- Alexander van Elsas
So its a weak twitter clone in, if I get this right, PHP. Honestly Robert, with these things springing up all over it's simply not goign to be possible for you to get to them all first.
- Soulhuntre
from twhirl
If I was launching something like this, I'd reserve Scoble's account when I started it, just so he could moan about it in public - free publicity! :)
- Martin Bryant
I fight it out with a guy in Germany for the username Tobstar until i started using my real name.
- Toby Graham
Rutger I m ight be arrogant, but it's my freaking name/trademark and I will defend that.
- Robert Scoble
Funny, the owner of identi.ca wrote me back and said he doesn't have a policy for how to handle these things. Amateur hour.
- Robert Scoble
Gee, I think the owner of Identi.ca is clueless then... how can you launch a twitter competitor product and not foresee this issue to crop up?! Doh! lame-O dude
- Susan Beebe
Your name = your "brand" = your word and so on. That is not arrogance but brand management.
- Mathew A. Koeneker
Thought it seemed odd for Dave to be channeling Steve Gillmor and sure enough, this is Steve's post. identi.ca needs to sort out their feed a bit more.
- Ken Sheppardson
Aha. Cool. If one checks the "multiple author" checkbox when adding the feed as a "blog" in FF, will FF pick up the dc:creator elements in the RSS feed? Not interested enough to try it, just mildly curious. :-)
- Ken Sheppardson
Twhirl runs on my left side monitor, friendfeed on my main screen. I hold a special place for Twitter, in my heart (no, really...but it's a long story) but that doesn't fix the usability issues.
- Brad @ The Next Web
from twhirl
I was one of the first to see, but I was also instructed not to share the URL for some reason. Were you gunning for exclusivity on the announcement? :)
