Hmm, learned a lot from my effort but seems like I selected a niche with some competition. Still can't get into top 10. But I am continuing because I think it can be good long term.
- Darshana Makavita
Thats great! I still havent made a sale yet, but starting to get some adsense clicks.
- Joe Cooley
Good to hear, but how about traffic did you get the magic number 200
- Darshana Makavita
nope....i mean i hit 200 uniques...but not 200 per day..i get about 30 per day, and about 70 when i make a new post. the good thing is i am starting to get more search engine traffic than referral traffic
- Joe Cooley
Yes, but Ed said that we should make a one sale per 200 to the affiliate offer page at least and if not we must assess the situation. Also that if 200 visit the site at least over 10% must click on the sales link. Maybe you should try some soft selling as ed says in day 18 or 25. Good Luck.

Totally screwed up. Reading the 30dc blackbook that you get when you download market samurai. Completely forgot about this book. But it is providing a lot of insight on keyword choices.
not sure...sign up again and fill out the survey? or check the forums or knowledge base
- Joe Cooley
Yes, you can download the blackbook when you sign up for the trial
- Mike Paul
Nik if you put a request into the market samurai forum, Brent of noble samurai will probably help you - perhaps point you at a webpage where you can do the survey that you didn't do when you first got MS http://www.noblesamurai.com/forum...

Creating backlinks by posting on groups/forums: Many groups/forums don't allow html tags, so can't use <a href> there. When the url is just written in plain text without any <ahref> tags, does google still count it as a hyperlink? Does it still create a backlink to the WPD blog? Thanks!
If you're just starting out, it's important that you know something about the niche, or have some interest, or at the least are willing to get knowledgeable about it. (Ed Dale says the same by the way).

Hey gang, I put up my blog a week back, and ranking #46 for phrase match with 19 unique visitors so far. Obviously I need to do more work to move up my rankings before I can get more visitors. I am on day 18 of the challenge. How's everyone else doing?
How is everyone doing? I'm now getting about 60 visitors/day. I have 145 uniques and 296 total visits. Have yet to sell anything. I am towards the end of the 30 days now, as I skipped all the adwords lessons. I dont really want to spend the money for that.
I am keeping pace with challenge, but not getting much visitors,I listened to Eds day 18 video and feel that the reason is I am still ranked too low. Therefore feverishly building as much links as possible these days. If things do not improve I may have to take a decision as Ed said. But still too early for that.

Hey does anyone no if we can modify the wordpress direct themes. I seem to find some glitch in every theme I try. nic, danielle, steven hope you guys are doing great, keep us updated.
there's some images or soemthing on the right side that isnt loading....is it just me?
- Joe Cooley
Yep, had some issues with wordpress direct themes. First pick did not show sales offer and had some foreign language stuff where the description should be. Now this one has these images and also I am not happy where the sales offer is (a little too low). Must do some changes before I get to rank seriously
- Darshana Makavita
Just had to buy a new battery charger for my laptop (a disgraceful £55),had to get a universal one or i would of had to wait another 2 or 3 days. Back to the rest of day 4 vids for me, got alot of catching up to do by the sound of it!
I don't know how Ed intend to use it but pretty sure a well developed blog can be a money maker in your niche in more than one way.
- Darshana Makavita
Blogs can make you money in many ways...Adsense, affiliate product sales thru Amazon.com (etc), selling ad space when you get high enough rankings, blogging for pay (companies pay you to blog about their product), merchandising/selling your own products, selling the blog itself....I imagine at the end of this we'll have the tools to do some or all of these. But yes, you can definitely make money for your niche using a blog.
- Danielle L Coleman
Day 10 was a rest day so I moved onto 11. Took me pretty much all day to do. Some of the bookmarking sites were a real pain to submit to, and I'm not even sure they went in. But my squidoo lens is on the first page for a broad search! And I made 14 cents today from adsense =P
Site took 9 hours to index. I see my propeller and digg submissions on page 2 for both broad match and phrase match. Site is on page 6 for phrase match but nowhere to be found for broad match.
Guys I am a little confused, where does gurubob show how to find the secondary keywords, Ed mentioned it on day six when adding categories saying Bob showed us. But I can't find it. Any idea?
When you are using Market Samurai you click on generate keywords after you have your "new keyword" already..Then MS will show all other keywords in relation to your top keyword. You delete the keywords you think have no relation to your niche then you click analyze keywords to see how they are performing. I hoped that helped! If not, let us know, so we can help another way! :)
- nic
Crap...so after reading most of day 6, you need your main key phrase and three other ones that are close but not as good. His examples are vintage electric guitar, vintage bass guitar, vintage gibson guitar, and antique guitar. I guess I have to go back and look for a few more related ones.
you can use market samurai to get other keyword phrases that are alike to your main keyword. just type your keyword in the bar in MS then click generate keywords. delete the ones that you don't like and then click analyze keywords to see how they are performing. if you already knew that, sorry, just figured id try to help out. im having better luck since watching some videos over and over again. but im sure ill be askin more questions later on lol.
- nic
Nah, it's just the fact that I had to go backwards and do more research instead of progressing forward.
- Joe Cooley
Hey guys, quick question(s)... How long did you guys wait before buying a domain and hosting? Did you start right away when you figured out your niche? Also, should you trial & error a practice niche before you start? Wow, I'm lost...
He goes over the hosting stuff in Day 6. I'm not there yet but I just glanced at it because Amazon affiliates won't let you sign up without a website. In Day 4, he does mention that you are testing niche to see how well it can do. So I am guessing that we just follow along and if it doesn't do well he will tell us to start over or something.
- Joe Cooley
So we test a niche by using our money with a domain and hosting? I don't get it, you make a site about the niche before you try joining amazon? I'm going over earlier videos right now...I must have missed this. Sorry to bother everyone w/ all the questions when maybe I should just pay more attention! lol
- nic
Im not sure. I just know amazon needs a url when you register. Regardless, though, if you decide to pursue this you have to get hosting and a domain anyways. It's not too expensive. Hosting is about 5 bucks a month and a domain can be had for under $10 for a year. I think this will be discussed on Day 6.
- Joe Cooley
Yeah I intended on getting the domain/hosting later on just wanted to know how soon we should be thinking about it. Ok, so another question ...when researching on Google about your keywords, do we only worry about the results when we have the quotations around them? How important are the keyword results when we don't add them? Only because some of my keyword results have a huge differential when adding the quotations and when I don't add them.
- nic
Thats one of the things I'm unsure about. One of the key phrases I looked up had 8 sites come up with quotes, without was somewhere in the millions. I think one of the things mentioned is that google gives preference to sites optimized for the exact match opposed to sites that mention the keywords scattered on the page. Thus, "trout fishing" will be given preference over "look at all that trout in that fishing spot."
- Joe Cooley
I am thinking of getting a domain for at least one niche, because I already have hosting for a blog I started but got neglected. Also regarding the keywords it is best to stick to there criteria of using quotes. Most of the time if there is a huge difference then one word is very popular by itself, but as a group they are not used much. But if you are seen traffic(above 80) then it could be a good phrase.
- Darshana Makavita
Another criteria is the SEO competition, as this is checked for the top ten results in broad match. If they are not well optimized then even if you get million searches for broad match your site may rank well. I guess the only true way to know for sure is to go and try it out.
- Darshana Makavita
I think you should just pick something that you have interest in. If it works out then great! If not, then it fails and hopefully you learned why it failed.
- Joe Cooley
Guys, my first posting for friendfeed, I have actually started the challenge officially on 1st November(to get a exact month) and now on day six, but have to admit need to brush up some of the earlier stuff. Hope everyone is doing great.
Ok....this is something I just realized about this site and I think it will help organize our chatter greatly. Instead of replying to others' remarks by clicking the message link at the top, reply by clicking "Comment" under that remark. This will begin a thread that is much easier to follow.
I`m just about to start looking at the day 4 vids for the first time, so I`m at the same point as you I think and I`ve got a couple of idea`s just not sure if there worth it or if I should have a DEFINITE 1 yet. guess I`ll find out soon
