Active sync via Exchange, with minor limitations. iPhone limitations: http://www.google.com/support... WinMo limitation: "Google Sync currently supports synchronization with your Gmail, main Google Calendar, and the contacts in your My Contacts group. " http://google.com/support...
The contacts don't sync too well on the phone. I have contacts with multiple phone numbers (mobile) and they don't appear all on the iPhone. And that's a deal breaker for me. So as much as I love Google, I'm trialling MobileMe now.

@Stelian: To use it with the operator I prefer here in Sweden, I have to jailbreak and unlock it. And its always scary to see if you made all settings right, and don't pay per MB of data you use, or roams of another network etc.

iPhone 3GS - I dumped a BB Bold and I am so happy now!

@Gustav: Ahh, I know what you mean. I had to do the same here in Switzerland with my 3G. However, you're scared only the first time you do it :-)
- Stelian Iancu
@Stelian: Nah, scared the first days, and really scared to call and check the balance.

Can someone tell me if Google Chrome for Mac is available and if not, what browser would you recommend other than Firefox. Firefox 3.5 is having problems...
If you are on OS 10.5 and above, Google Chrome is available for you. If not, well....I haven't found a single browser that doesn't crash at least once a week on 10.4 at the moment. (EDIT: shoot, I thought Chrome for Mac was out already. Mona had a link to it a while ago. I downloaded it and then found I couldn't use it because I'm still on Tiger.)
- Spidra Webster
I'm off and on with Safari - I do like it... I remember having issues with it too, but don't remember what they were. Also, the company's website I rep for doesn't handle Safari, so I have to use Firefox to place orders through the company website (if that makes sense).
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
Spidra, right I don't have OS 10.5 (Leopard right?) - so I'm still in the dark ages *Sigh*
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
Omniweb, Opera 10 beta (although it can be a little crashy), Camino... Chrome (or Chromium) are both nice, but nowhere near ready for prime time.
- cecily
Chrome is a pretty featureless browser that is still in early early development stages.
- Mac64
I've tried Safari, Camino & Opera. Safari and Opera have both crashed on me (Opera less than Safari.) Camino won't even launch without crashing because it apparently has a conflict with 1Password. I've downloaded iCab but haven't given it a good trial yet.
- Spidra Webster
Are most of your problems with this specific website you do business with?
- Mac64
Right - I'm trying to find a browser that won't crash as much or have these issues... what about flock?
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
Mac64 - no... for instance I thought Twitter was being wonky as usual, but then I learned today from a mashable or Techcrunch article that Firefox 3.5 was not playing nice with Twitter...
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
I have not been able to update Twitter directly from the web in over a week or longer.
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
Could try an older version of Firefox. Here is the most recent 3.0 version. http://bit.ly/vA0aX
- Mac64
Never tried downgrading firefox, so i can't speak from experience what issues this may cause, sry.
- Mac64
What about Omniweb - haven't tried that in a while... last time I tried it out it was buggy...
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
Never tried it. With Firefox, you can try launching by typing /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -safe-mode into Terminal to see if extensions are causing problems with your browsing. This will launch FF without any extensions. Alternatively, you can hold "Option" down when clicking on the Firefox icon. It will give you various startup options.
- Mac64
I'm using the alpha Chrome right now on OS X and it's great. Sometimes Flash crashes though, but Youtube works :-)
- Stelian Iancu
Keep Positive Jeff!... Leo over the last 2 days i have found you again i wondered what happened after the TechTV Bullshit man i miss you guys..... But i love your podcasts.......I have been following Pirillo for awhile and now i have found u again thanks bro keep up the good work.
- DrUnKeN_TiGeR
Great show! Have you considered offering the podcasts as embeds?
- Benjamin Taylor
Leo: when does the episode appear in iTunes?
- Stelian Iancu
Wait. I bought buddyfeed, found it easier to just use the FF webapp.
- David Young
I know I have already commented, but I agree with David. I still use BuddyFeed out of spite because I paid for it. And it sounds like the FF team understand that they need more mobile solutions to attract more users. (That's why I use Twitter a lot because there are awesome apps for Twitter on the iPhone)
- Aaron Hood
Any idea what happens if somebody comments on stuff you wrote; does the text pop up on top? Also, what if somebody comments on somebody else's stuff where you commented as well? Does it come on top or not?
- Stelian Iancu
PS: Only the home room (being default) would be title-less. This way the top current news would literally be the top/ left thing on the page.
- Philipp Lenssen
Nice. I wonder how many customers will be totally lost with all these. Also, take into account that all the major operators will have their own effin' store.
- Stelian Iancu
Okay that's the /i sorted how about /m? It was looking really good at first but then the style sheet came in and it changed to be a lot larger and too wide. Back to fftogo.com

i upgraded my n810 to diablo, and installed a-gps betait still takes me forever and a day to get a gps lock, if ever. does ur location in the world play a part? .
- Alphonsus Lee
i'm in singapore. i've installed a-gps beta, and moved the location pointer to the singapore region. but the gps still takes forever. is there some config file that i have to edit manually to get gps cranking?
- Alphonsus Lee
a-gps shall work Ok in Singapore - send feedback to A-GPS project on betalabs http://www.nokia.com/A41163987 btw, do you have wifi or gprs/3g working while try to lock GPS? without that A-GPS is helpless
- A.T.
@silpol: gprs/3g? on the n810? how? :-)
- Stelian Iancu
I find it very confusing that people tend to say "connected" - this is very old paradigm. for TCP/IP networks they prefer to say "has at least default gateway working" meaning that packets originated on your host (here it is N810) can go out and reach server. The fact it is bluetooth works as wireless *wire* between N810 and some phone , or whether it is WiFi - it doesn't matter much
- A.T.
How often are we going to see iPhone apps released? whenever someone's submission is accepted and released or on regular intervals like a Wiiware title or a Tuesday album release?
I would hope there is a steady daily stream of new apps, one day a week would cause too many good apps to be overshadowed by "big name" apps that will get all of the attention
- Grant
Let's hope there will be an easy way to see all the new apps.
- Stelian Iancu
The last.fm was released yesterday on the App Store, so I'm guessing that there's no particular day. That might change once the launch frenzy is over.
- Fox Tucker

! 6 phones... I wouldn't even know what to do with two phones. Okay, maybe I could do with 2 phones (basically using one as a net-enabled camera), but 6 is well...you know already.
- Cheryl Jones
Awesome. I had to stop carrying a bluetooth keyboard and tekkeonl battery so can fit 3 more cameras.
- Rodfather
I have strictly played with the n810 briefly, nothing in depth. And I really like the device, at the time I had received an ipod touch and wanted to compare the two to see which one I would like to have. The n810 is so much more robust than the ipod touch but I never went through with selling the touch and buying an n810. I think I would be much more interested in the WiMax version since you could have a persistent data connection.
- J Allen
I'm considering buying a N810, but only to put Android on it.
- Tödd Nëmët
Thanks Globecode, that's exactly my situation, the Touch or the N810. The keyboard is a big one for me on the N810, and the GPS is a plus but not a need. There really isn't much else like it until you get to the micro laptops, and I am trying to avoid a smartphone based on the increase in service fees. Thanks for the info.
- cmiper
No prob. If you already have the touch you should at least wait until firmware 2.0 comes out and see what kind of apps are available, that will be a big determining factor in whether it will become more useful or not.
- J Allen
I don't have the touch, I have been back and forth between the two. Side question, iPhone/iPod touch January update vs July update? Another purchase, or an upgrade to the upgrade? Asking because the touch can be had for a decent price without the January update on it, if the July update will do, I may go that route.
- cmiper
I paid for the Jan update, didn't really do anything special except that I have liked being able to rent movies through itunes for travelling. The apps are all things that can be done within the browser and since you have to have internet access for the apps to be useful, it probably isn't worth it. I never jailbroke the touch, although I have friends who have and love it. They actually use it daily as sort of a entertainment/pda, even a couple that have a smartphone. more below
- J Allen
The July update hasn't been released yet but if the app store has great apps then I think it is definitely worth getting. I don't do a lot of gaming but this would become a great gaming device if great games are built for it. Good question on the upgrade, don't know if it would be just $9.95 or if you would have to pay the extra $20 as well. I'll twitter the question and see if I get an answer.
- J Allen
Thanks Globecode. The 16GB version can be had for 340$ without the January update...the 8GB for 249$. I was thinking about going that route and even if I have to pay for the Jan update, I would still be under the retail cost of the updated models. I would be relying heavily on the apps, mostly browsing, email, etc...dare I say, maybe even as much as I would be using it for multimedia. That's the main reason why I was originally leaning towards the N810, and the KB and GPS were the big draw there...
- cmiper
I have now seen a lot of complaints about the GPS, it's slowness, lack of lock-on, and that you have to buy the software for it to be useful, so I have ruled that out as a determining factor. Now it's just the keyboard, and I think I can get over that as well ;-) To top it off, even the 8gb touch has much more storage available for almost 100$ less than the N810. I will def. need to use either device for storage as well. Can you tell which way I am leaning at this point? ;-) Thanks again for your help!
- cmiper
Well I never got an answer to my tweet (replies were off, so it was kind of hard) and I also posted the question over at ilounge which wasn't answered.
- J Allen
Thanks Globecode. After messing around with the touch, n810 and Mylo2 this weekend, I think I've made up my mind, though I am going to wait for the software update to come out before deciding which model I will buy. ;-) Thanks for all your help.
- cmiper
@nemet you have to keep in mind that (strictly speaking) you can't get full Android specs compliant stuff on N810/n800 hardware - at least 3D acceleration will be not available (not our fault, blame IPR lawyers ;)
- A.T.
as for "GPS slowness" - since Diablo release few days ago, there is A-GPS (assisted GPS) support via mobile/cellular or WiFi, so you don't have to wait till satellites start to downstream corrections once per hour, so one can speed up locking on satellites. Also I do suggest you to consider Maemo Mapper as free/open-source alternative to Nokia/Wayfinder proprietory mapping solution.
- A.T.
as I work in the team developed 770/N800/N810 I can _give_a_try_ to answer your questions, but please try to formulate them less ambiguous. My personal choice is N800 over N810 but... I am not that addicted to chat (no need in keyboard), don't have car and even if I need map, I use external GPS (LD-4W Nokia); no interest in Wimax (we have no WiMax in Finland and most probably will skip it as technology); and my favourite one is that N800 have two SD card slots (both internal and external)
- A.T.
@silpol: can you please comment more on "3D acceleration will be not available" in Android on N8xx?
- Stelian Iancu
Thanks for the info silpol. A few questions if you don't mind. The A-GPS, will it work with any GPS capable phone, or is it specific to Nokia? Is the GPS (non A-GPS) just slow on the initial lock, or is it even when traveling, meaning, if you were to drive in a car, would the realtime GPS be useless? Lastly, I know the new OS/firmware release makes it easier to push further updates, but does that mean there *will* be future updates? I would hate to invest and then see dev discontinued. Thanks!
- cmiper
I bought a second hand N800 a few months ago. It's definitely a nice device, especially the touch screen and applications that utilized that in a smart way. I personally hated typing on the touch screen, though, and the slowness of some apps. Therefore, I suppose the N810 would suit my needs better (faster + real keyboard).
- roel
@cmiper From looking at the Apple site this morning it looks like $9.95 gets you both the 2.0 software and the updates from the January release. Nice deal for sure.
- J Allen
Thanks Globecode. I wound up getting work to foot the bill on the N810 as I will be able to use it for RDP/VNC and a few other connections and services that will assist me here. I am still eyeballing the iPod touch for me, but I think it's going to be a bit down the road, as we are getting into new phone contracts now too. Thanks for everyone's help!
- cmiper
please update us on what you think about it, i definitely am interested.
- J Allen
Well, so far so great! As silpol stated above, the new version of the OS came out a couple weeks ago. I ran it first with the old version to get used to it a bit, then updated the OS a few hours later, and it was a *very* big improvement on the speed and multi-tasking. Most of the complaints I have read, were resolved with the update. Some of the third party apps aren't up to the current OS, but that has only affected one app for me so far (Canola2). I will be heavily testing the GPS this weekend.
