NYT's Racially Segregated Gift Guide Offends, Not Least of All Because the Gifts Are Lame
"Got a non-white person on your Christmas list? Know nothing about him/her other than his/her race? For racist grannies who maybe feel funny about their adopted Chinese grandkids, The New York Times offers a very special "Of Color" gift guide." - Steven Perez from Bookmarklet

vicster said exactly what I would have. - Andrew C (✓)
Gift guides are inherently weird and based on generalizations. These gifts themselves seem like things people might give. What's the best way for the NYT to present these gifts? Just in the mix with everything else? - Christopher Chung
tiffany i actually agree with you. they tried, it was clumsy. could have been mixed in with everything else. i think where they were on the right track is that the gifts are specific to each particular subgroup's experience as a member of that subgroup. (also, it's not just race; the military spouses book and the Gospel cruise don't seem to be centered around race). in any case, i'm refreshing the Public Editor's blog to see if this ever comes up ;) - Christopher Chung
If you are matching vowel sounds not necessarily at the start of the word, I believe that is assonance. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... - Your Neighbor Steve
