Thinking of catching up on old episodes of FRINGE. Is it any good? Should I bother?
i watched the first 8 or 9 episodes on hulu. it doesnt really get any better. its textbook formulaic. the doctor is the most interesting character. - Carlos Ayala
My brother keeps telling me how good it is, but every time I see a commercial for the show, I think X-FILES. - Steven Perez from IM
Steven, Fringe is not nearly as good as X-Files in the early seasons. Not even. - Yolanda
It's worth it. It begins to gain serious momentum later in the season IMO. - Amani
is ok. agree that the doctor is the most interesting character. not sure I buy what they are doing with the plot, but it's a decent watch. - holly #ravingfangirl
Hmmm. I've never actually sat through an entire episode. I'll watch a few and see for myself. But it sounds like it suffers from the same problem endemic to science fiction on TV: first season is shaky, then it picks up later. - Steven Perez from IM
It started off pretty slow imo - nouhad
I like the show. I don't think its formulaic. I would give the show a soild B - John Flynn
Umm...what show have you all been watching? Fringe IS worth the watch! The plot actually DOES develop, and if you're not too daft, you can actually pick up that the characters are DEVELOPING and PROGRESSING!! Sorry to be so polemical here, but the show doesn't get enough credit. - Carlton Hackett
@John - Start: Someone dies a weird death / Middle: Investigation of said death / End: Find-Catch-Kill the Killer - or Killer Escapes. I just wrapped up every episode of fringe. Ridiculously formulaic. - Carlos Ayala
I didn't say the plot wasn't developing - I just said I didn't buy the direction it's going. and that's all I'll say cuz I don't wanna spoil :) - holly #ravingfangirl
@Carlos: What about the developing storylines of The Pattern, The War, and the stuff going on with Olivia? If all you pay attention to is the main plot of each episode, then it would seem formulaic. But, like LOST, there are bigger themes progressing throughout each episode! - Carlton Hackett
Carlos is being a little unfair. There's also a running backstory about a conspiracy involving a large multinational corporation that may or may not be involved with supernatural or alien race. That story line is going to emerge as (if) the show continues. And while formulaic, the characters are at least interesting. - The original Kevin
@Carlton and Kevin you two are correct. The backstory is what makes this show watchable. Take that away and its one big repeat every week. I am not a hater. I was watching pretty regularly then they had their little break (moving to or from canada or whatever) and it took all the momentum away for me and i stopped watching. I may pick it up again though, the show does not suck...but is formulaic. :) - Carlos Ayala
the show is ridiculously formulaic, they've done the EXACT SAME PLOTS on several occasions already this season, and the conspiracy backstory isn't a reason to watch the show. that said, the quality goes WAY up after about 4 episodes into the season, so its at least worth watching, but don't go thinking this is another x-files or anything. - Richard Lawler
