io9 - Why Smallville Should Stay An Only Child (Kind Of) - smallville
"When it comes to Superman and television, there're two very strange things that happen. Firstly, television producers these days seem to want to stay away from doing an outright Superman show - perhaps because they don't like the complete Superman set-up, perhaps because of budget, perhaps to stay away from comparisons to the Christopher Reeve movies, perhaps a mixture of all three - and, instead, produce kind of uneven-if-not-outright-crappy shows (Lois and Clark, I'm looking directly at you). Secondly, those crappy shows stay on the air much longer than they have any right to, outliving many, much better, shows." - Steven Perez from Bookmarklet
Lois and Clark: campy, yes... crappy, not on your miserable critic's life - Michael W. May
I dunno. That first season wasn't bad, but after that? Yeesh. - Steven Perez
And the writer has a point. No one does a straight up Superman show anymore. Last one was in the 50s. - Steven Perez
Never thought about that until you posted this link, Steven. I think a straight up Superman TV show would be kind of cool, actually! I also think that this super hero might fare better as a serial as opposed to weak feature films. Seems like the episodic format would suit our kryptonian savior just fine! :) - Jonathan Hardesty
Yeah, that the thing: LOIS AND CLARK and SMALLVILLE both revolve around Clark Kent, who may be an okay guy, but let's face it: he's bloody boring. Which is, of course, exactly what Kal-El was shooting for. Superman, otoh, in endlessly fascinating. The only problems I see with creating a Superman TV show are (1) money and (2) writing good stories with well-executed villains. - Steven Perez
