Hey, I tried. Borrowed my brothers copy of that album with the kid in the pool on the cover. Fell asleep after a few minutes. So, yeah, wasn't for me.

I did, but they clearly had a songwriting formula. (For that matter, so did Led Zeppelin.) In Nirvana's case, you had sparsely worded verses with complementary sparse implementation, and then you move to a kitchen sink-musical chorus, coupled with even sparser lyrics.

Well, my first experience of Nirvana was when they were getting started and they played in Portland. (Bleach is a far superior album to Nevermind or In Utero, BTW.) I knew they were great but was sad they got so huge. I just knew Kurt Cobain wouldn't survive that. :-(
