TL;DR: the states took the stimulus money that they were supposed to spend on roads and infrastructure, dunked it into budget shortfalls, which were mostly created by giving their rich buddies tax breaks for their businesses, and then claimed that the stimulus didn't work. Unless there was some sort of material benefit, in which case, they took all credit for the "recovery" they adamantly claimed they never needed. - Steven Perez

Germany and Sweden have pretty awesome social welfare systems and they seem to be doing pretty well. The other thing Germany and Sweden have are tight regulations of banking. So, yeah, that might be a good plan, too. - Victor Ganata
