I attended a WBC counterprotest (happily, we outnumbered them about 40 to1) and I braced myself for general craziness, knowing the signs they carry are awful and obscene, but nothing—NOTHING—prepared me for their response to our chanting "God is love." They actually chanted back "God is hate" and meant it. It was astonishing. I just can't imagine what it must be to live w/ that level of misanthropy and paranoia. Brr. - Ayşe E.
