That is probably true. They are probably more demanding in terms of wanting something that is simple/elegant/no hassle. I am sure it's only a matter of time before someone creates a UI that they like.

give them a "Scoble" quote to use at the beginning of one of their future episodes... ;-)

does he have any secrets up his sleeve that he can share?

You going to be on an episode? Robert Scoble as "The Tech Killer"
- Outsanity
Felicia Day? Rising geek star. Friendfeeder. (admittedly, primarily via Twitter, but her account is pretty robust nevertheless). Understands technology. Not scared of options, choices, or interacting w/ her fans. My kind of "star".
- Ken Kennedy
Can you get Mandy Patinkin back, it's not the same without him.

They hire tech consultants to keep things real and then create fake clones of YouTube, MySpace and Facebook to weave into storylines. I know that Hollywood hates to give out free lunch, but why don't they just use the real names instead and electrify those communities. Can you imagine how nuts we would go on FriendFeed, if they even mentioned it on the show. You need to convince them that if they give a free plug, they'll get a rapid FF fanbase in exchange.

Davis- They'd need to get legal permissions and negotiate agreements to the context of product placement. That can cost too much $ for something that plays just a couple of minutes in just one episode. TV budgets are fluid but tight.

It has been done though. Ex : CSI NY and Secondlife

I don't know that is necessarily true unless they are showing the product in a negative light. Even then, I'm pretty sure it would be low risk of getting sued to say that Friendfeed is awesomesauce on the program. At the very least, the Mybuddy.com fake websites they create, should be real. If they want to promote them, why not see if a social network shows up.

+1 Brian Sullivan. Stars couldn't (and probably they don't even want to) interact with anyone. Talking one to many is what they need.

-Davis Legal Perms is a just a fact of life man, I've worked in TV. I agree with your second point on building real communities! :) Some shows have been experimenting with web 1.0 + 2.0 over the years. Heroes is a good example. Hit Show = bigger Web budget.. OK ratings = Facebook fanpage ;)
- BairdWilliamson
I understand that anytime you have a boatload of money, you risk being sued for any ticky tack reason, but are you telling me that I could be sued for doing a videocast on YouTube where I talk about Friendfeed or use them as a gag in a joke (parody) or just say nice things about them so that they'd look like gasbags if they tried to sue over it? Fact of life or no, they're welcome to mention Davis Freeberg anytime they like and I won't sue. I don't even mind if they make me one of the bad guys.
- Davis Freeberg
Nope NOT saying that at all. Just sayin that unfortunately: No legal = No production Insurance = No show. (As an investment advisor, you've got practice insurance with stipulations right? Same thing.) That said, that's dramatically changing as we speak. Like with the guy Robert's interviewing right now. If the actors are using FF then the show is using FF. The rules and structure is changing in Hollywood. You and I are influencing part of that change.

This site is a mash between twitter and facebook (except without all the silly apps and ads) :) This was built by 2 USF Computer Science students.
