There is cause fatigue for sure, and inappropriate use of the medium, but that is why great folks like Beth Kanter, Amy Sample Ward, Wendy Harman, Danielle Brigida and others are collecting success stories and teaching people what works. Can I hit the "Like" button 20 times? I agree with Laura. The brilliant minds she mentioned teach what works well and have dedicated their lives to learning and sharing their knowledge. The creator of "Slacktivism" could have promoted them instead of writing "Slacktijournalism," but that would that have required too much research or thought towards a solution on his part.
