Groan. By 'article' he meant blog post, two weeks ago on the LA Times blog, but who can tell the difference these days. Two weeks ago, and I'm just finding out about now, from this here apology. It probably looks worse that it is, though come on. If he said those things as a joke then a) why are you joking about that kind of thing? and b) body language and tone of voice don't come across well in print. I want to believe in Brightkite, because it's a neato service that delivers at least some of the promise of shareable/social media, where most sites are in the publishing business.
