Today, will be the last day that it will be home. I wish so much I could see home as it was. The gate with the pups behind them. My Room in its infinite mess that always made sense to me. The closets across the HVAC. The living room that went from blue to [...]

South America. The Amazon and the Andes have always intrigued me after seeing one of Michael Palin's BBC travel doc's back in school. Ive been lucky enough to visit N.A, Western Europe, South Asia, North Africa, Australia and the Caribbean.
- Arawak
Because of never fading problems with homesickness I stick with Europe.
- Ton Zijp
Not really sure. I haven't ventured outside of North America, and all the others have things that intrigue me. Probably Europe or South America.

All of them! EDIT: Okay, It would either be Europe or South America. I've been smitten with Argentina since I learned Spanish in 7th grade, and Europe because I find Scandinavia, the UK, Eastern Europe, Italy, Spain, France, etc. all so interesting.
- Derrick
Australia. Wait. Australia is both a country and a continent, right? Ok. Australia.
- Ed Moltzen
Asia, because of Japan probably. Been to Malaysia and Singapore but never Japan.

Europe. I want to return someday. I visited Paris it's magical.

Europe. I just feel called there in a way I do not to other places. Different cultures but cultures that share some sort of background with mine. I've been to a couple European countries but would like to visit far more. Oceania would probably be 2nd.
- Spidra Webster
I have been to 5, but there is still something in all 7 that would draw me there. I hope to go to Taiwan in in the next year or so for a wedding, and that would bring me to 6 continents. Svalbard and the artic hold a lot of interest. the galopogos is high on my list, as is the English country side, Ireland and Scotland. And Antartica could draw me back pretty easily!

Been a while since I blogged. Lot has happened since my move so I’ll do some quick catching up. Windows Live closed down Spaces and moved to WordPress so it’ll take a day or two getting hang of this place.

http://www.google.com/reader... I'm glad you asked this right now. I just realized that several people are following me and I didn't even know it. I hope it hasn't been this way for long!
- Michael Fidler
Just noticed that Reader now allows grouping of people you follow! Wondering: is Reader going to become a competitor (instead of complement) to FriendFeed?
- Chris Rogers
@rogersdc / Chris, Google Reader is obviously been trying to become more social, but I'd really like to see FF come out with a bookmarklet that makes sub'ing RSS feeds to FF easier/faster. Right now it's a manual process involving either a new Group/Room or Imaginary Friend. Should be 2 clicks tops.. Also see: http://friendfeed.com/alexsch...
- Alex Schleber
Here is mine : http://www.google.fr/reader.... I share (mainly on French sites and blogs) about libraries, literature and arts, human and social sciences, photography :-)
- Nadine Pestourie
LOL here we go again :o) http://www.google.com/reader... I share a lot of blogs and funny stuff that I read, it's neat how I can share and it gets posted all over by friendfeed.
- David Gross
http://www.google.com/reader... - I share items about productivity, gaming, movies, and misc. stuff from the Google "cool" via Recommendations feed. Thanks Kol for starting this thread because I've been trying to cut down on the number of feeds I subscribe to and instead just follow interesting people.
- Dusty Edenfield
Svartling: good point about adding people to groups. I noticed I couldn't comment on items that were shared by some users.
- Dusty Edenfield
I've (we) written a lot of more good tips on how to use Google Reader in Google Reader comments. It's too bad we don't have permalinks in Greader so we can share our notes and comments. Otherwise I could have posted a link here. Here are some on friendfeed: http://friendfeed.com/svartli...
- Svartling
Thanks for posting this Kol. Never paid any attention to my shared items folder before but just did!
- Martha
The conversation is really blowing up (in a good way) on Reader. The most important reminder currently is to set up groups and allow commenting. That is NOT on by default!
- Vince DeGeorge
Thank you all. I think I have subscribed you all now (except those feed in languages I don't understand) Here is mine again: http://www.google.com/reader...
- Svartling
I've started to follow a few of the people here but there's quite a few, so will take me a while :) - My currently fairly bare feed is: http://www.google.com/reader...
- Roy Herrod
There are a few entries here you might like to read to help you. This one: http://ff.im/6CkQj explains about adding people to groups to allow them to comment and why some don't stay in groups. In this one: http://ff.im/6F9pQ I suggest a way to track a large number of shared items using PostRank. This: http://ff.im/6Ci0P and this: http://ff.im/6AM35 has a few tips on using GReader as a lifestreaming service. And this: http://ff.im/6EMT1 gives a few examples of GReader bundles.
- Kol Tregaskes
Those of you above whom I already follow on FF/Twitter/etc., I've subscribed to your feeds. As for the rest of you: if you follow me on GReader, I'll follow you back.
- Dennis Jernberg
I'm sharing some pages now, including a few of my past blog entries.
- Dennis Jernberg
Because I have issues with data duplication, I have merged this list with the google reader shares room feeds. You can view the Google spreadsheet at http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc...
- Rob Diana
There are a bunch of shared feeds that I could not resolve the Google username for because they did not have a named profile set up.
- Rob Diana
tristanhambling, your link didn't work. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
It would be really handy to have all these shared feeds as an opml file. Has anyone added everyone? Care to export an opml of the shared feeds?
- Paul Jacobson
I'm http://www.google.com/reader... Not really comfortable with the custom URL though since it can only be your gmail username. Makes it really easy for spamspiders I think.
- TobiasVerhoog.com
Tobias, possibly but not had any problems myself though Gmail has the best spam filters around so I probably not noticed. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
http://www.google.com/reader... mostly webdev, photography news, music, world news which i get interested. plus half of them may be article in Japanese. sorry. :-p

Andy, Richmond Park and the others around there are the appeal really. Good place to go photographing and cycling while being very close to London I think.

Teddington (across the river from Kingston Upon Thames, is where I think I'd like to live. Just 'cos it's cheaper than everywhere else around it. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I've checked rental prices in the area several times over the last 2 years and Teddington is definitely cheaper. I'm not buying, no way I can afford that. ;-) All a pip-dream anyway, need a steady job and I've not had that for a while. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
anyone use google reader on windows mobile professional? I cant seem to get it to work and when I try to go to the mobile site it takes me to the regular site.

Why You Should Jailbreak the iPad | 1. Multitasking 2. Dashboard 3. Rock 4 SBSettings 5 Peripherals!...and more...!!! - http://www.readwriteweb.com/archive...
~~ this of course goes without saying but #jussayin "Prior to the iPad's release, we posed a question to the readers: "why jailbreak an iPad?" Jailbreaking, the act of hacking an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to install unapproved, third-party applications, is a popular pastime for many Apple mobile device owners. It provides more control over the hardware and software, offers new settings to tweak and delivers more features to what was formerly a locked-down, closed device. But with the launch of the iPad, the reasons to jailbreak seemed, at first glance, limited. Tethering, for example, one of the most popular hacks for iPhones (it turns phones into computer modems) is no longer necessary on an iPad. You can buy an iPad with 3G built in. Apps that let you hack the camera aren't needed because the iPad has no camera. Apps for hacking the phone or providing VoIP access are also unnecessary because the iPad isn't a phone. And so on. So we asked: is there still a good reason to hack an...

"Today, with HDTV manufacturers embedding Internet connectivity and versatile functionality directly into their sets, the PC is just one more box. Microsoft realizes that now, so with Windows Embedded 7 -- which released to manufacturing Tuesday -- it's aiming to put the operating system and the media player in the TV where it now says they belong."

Thanks for posting, LANjackal. I've been telling my crowd before this how fast this is going to happen and the PC market for mainstream is going to drop. What that will do to the price for developers is anybody's guess but I expect to see it go up as mainstream buyers shift away.

This may also have something to do with Google's plans to put Android onto TVs

"In the financial data accompanying its earnings release, Microsoft said worldwide Windows consumer licenses grew by more than 35 percent in the recent quarter. By comparison, Apple this week reported an increase of 33 percent in Mac sales over roughly the same time period. That was impressive, too, of course, but Microsoft is growing from a significantly larger base of sales to begin with, making its higher growth rate considerably harder to achieve."

Just got a Netflix job alert - not one I'm qualified for, but it's for a User Interface Engineer for Mobile Platforms. Sounds like they're serious about branching out into maybe putting Instant Watch on Apple/Android/Windows 7 phones?
Joystiq had a video last week demoing Instant Watch on a Windows 7 phone, so I'm hoping they go for the others, too.
- Jandy
I'm assuming that it might depend on those other platforms supporting Silverlight.
- Arawak
That could be. I was thinking by building a standalone app they might be able to circumvent Apple's lack of support for non-Apple streaming formats, but due to content provider DRM requirements, that may not be so easy. :/ I know they're interested in it, though; they were running surveys about it a few weeks back. With the iPad coming, I think they have to be.

Gaaaah. Apple Software Update, HOW MANY TIMES do I have to tell you I DO NOT WANT Safari installed on my Windows laptop? You thought you could sneak it in there again with iTunes 9, didn't you? You would have gotten away with it, too, if not for the "Install (3 items)" button giving your nefarious plot away.
just wait, one day it won't even ask you anymore and then you'll discover you have a new web browser.
- Joe The Sausage
Apple used to try to slip iTunes in with a Quicktime update the same way (maybe still do).
- Brian Sullivan
I just gave in since I need to use diff browsers at the same time a lot. :p

My peeve is the hidden MobileMe thing-a-majig.
- Amir Gharaat
What's the downside to having Safari installed?
- Brian Johns
Probably nothing. It'd be one thing if I wanted it installed. When the Apple Software Update first came out and had Safari checked by default, I was insulted and have refused ever since then out of principle.
- Stephen Mack
Maybe they'll require it eventually. iTunes is using webkit for the store now
- Rodfather
Rodfather, they'd certainly win this battle then. If iTunes required Safari, I'd give up fighting it. They can't make me use it on my laptop, though.
- Stephen Mack
Yup and I can't avoid the piece of crap cause I have a touch and need app sync. Bonjour, Quicktime(ugh), Software Update, Mobile Device support and host of other services at startup. Also it hijacks my Firefox media settings making QT default even though I select no file type associations during install.
- Arawak
Bumping because it happened again today with 9.0.3. Fie on you, Apple Software Update for ignoring my preferences.
- Stephen Mack
no downside except at most 100MB disk space used, give or take
- mjc
and it doesn't do taht for me, it always shows up as "new software" and is unchecked by default
- mjc
mjc, sure, but I don't want it. Why does it remember your preference and ignore mine?
- Stephen Mack
I never had any preference to remember, never checked the box, so it remained in its default state
- mjc
Install it, delete the short cut, it will be confused from then on.
- John D Reasor
You don't get a choice with IE
- Johnny
from iPhone
You are forced to install IE on your Mac?
- Brian Sullivan
Brian S.'s analogy is exactly right. On a Mac, with a MacOS, I expect an Apple browser to be installed with the OS. I would be upset if the Microsoft Office updater kept trying to install IE via chicanery. On a Windows box, I expect a Microsoft browser to be installed with the OS, and I'm upset that Apple is trying to sneak on their browser due to iTunes.
- Stephen Mack
I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about a Windows laptop here.... Silly me...
- Johnny
from iPhone
In that case, in a Windows environmet, you don't get a choice with IE. The reason I mention it is because you need IE for the OS to function. I would love an IE-less browser, but alas, I can't. I was moaning a lack of choice.
- Johnny
from iPhone
Macs come pre-packaged with Safari. Windows comes pre-packaged with IE. Why only bash Microsoft?
- TrafficBug
TrafficBug, cause you don't need Safari on your Mac to run software updates etc. IE use is forced.
- Johnny
from iPhone
There should be a "Software Preferences" or some such where you could state once and for all "I do not want Safari", "I do not want Google Toolbar", and so on. Instead of asking you, well behaved programs would check your "Software Preferences".
